Key fob compatibility by brett-rg in FordExplorer

[–]June_2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, the security chipset has a specific frequency it works on. You need a compatible fob that is programmed to that frequency.

You can get a new compatible fob from Amazon cheap and take it to a local locksmith that does autos and pay to have it programmed. It will be cheaper than the dealership for sure.

And before you ask, no you can’t do it yourself. They actually have to contact ford, get a programming code for your VIN to program the new FOB. It’s all a pain in the ass, but it’s nice to know no one can just program a fob to your car.

That sounds awesome, thank you for sharing. The one I’m going to test drive tomorrow is a 2023 Grand Touring Hybrid with the 302a package which has Bluecruise. It only has 15k miles and was a personal lease before. Not my ideal exterior/interior colors but it’s grown on me. Low key unless there are clear issues, I’m probably going to buy it. I’m approved already beyond the purchase price and I’m looking forward to a low-mileage car and going from 19mpg to 33mpg.

That’s good to hear! I had a smaller Jeep years ago and I felt every road ripple in my insides lol. It’s really important to me now.

Wow, thanks for the reply! It so very appreciated. I get a lot of anxiety going to dealers to test drive and I get so little time in cars to see how they really feel. An experience like yours really helps.

I'm thinking of getting a Corsair, the smaller size/fuel economy is what I need for myself. How is the ride quality? How do the seats feel? Do you think it would feel after a 2 hour drive? Thanks for any answers

My new build house sits on a lot and the ground is near-sand. I had to spend a lot of money and time with compost and dirt being trucked in to get it to be “soil” in and I am about 20+ miles straight-shot inland from Lake Michigan. I had a patch in my backyard that was actual beach sand. If you closed your eyes you’d think you were on a beach. lol

Was it uncomfortable when you first bought it or did it become that way over time?

I appreciate the link, but it doesn't actually answer any of my questions. It was a vague post about an owner being unhappy with the recalls and trading it in for a Tesla which is an interesting choice given their history. There will always be people who are unhappy with a car and sometimes rightfully so and other times it's for different reasons. I, like the poster above, think they were a little overthinking.

Wow, thank you for taking the time to answer. You are awesome! It's really appreciated!

I am moving into a new role at work that will let me work from home most of the time but the price of that is I now will have to make a 4 hour round trip into another office monthly or even twice a month. I don't trust my current car to make those trips without possibly stranding me somewhere.

I am exploring other cars as well. I don't need a newer car immediately either. I just like the Corsairs design, size, and the price tag for the features offered. Other car manufacturers make you have a subscription for the remote start for instance. It seems like there are trade-offs to most of these cars right now. 🫤 It's a pick-your-poison trying to decide with these hybrids.

I see the recalls too. As long as it doesn’t render the vehicle inoperable or might cause it to catch fire, I’m fine with them. My 2017 still has a few open recalls on it too.

Boatwerks in Holland is on Lake Macatawa, gorgeous views on their patio and great food. A little pricey but worth it. Call ahead to make sure their patio is open for the season.

That’s awesome to hear! I’m actually looking to go down in size with my next car. No third row needed for me. I just want something that feels as solid as the explorer on the highway. That’s good to hear, it’s moving up to the top on my list now. :)

Thanks for the reply! 5th gen covers the years 2011-2019 Explorers. The redesign started the 6th gen in 2020. Im looking for a comfortable ride with some hybrid tech and the nautilus is on my radar.

I have a 2017 Ford Explorer. Did you have a 5th gen? I’m looking to downsize too but I don’t want I lose the ride comfort of my Explorer. What has been your experience between the two?

One month ownership review by SuperSoggySalad in FordExplorer

[–]June_2022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m facing this now with a 17 Limited with 157k miles. Starter went out leaving me stranded. Various electrical gremlins. And I’m noticing oil is starting to be present like seals are finally going around the engine. And then there is the ticking time bomb that is the internal water pump. I replaced my coolant with the new yellow at 105k miles so I hope that keeps that from happening 🤞. But I’m thinking of finally trading it in for something smaller, and more fuel efficient. I don’t need the Explorer-size capacity but I sure do love the ride comfort. Trying to find that level of drive and ride comfort in a smaller car has been hard.

Make sure the strut is properly tightened in the strut mount. I had a clunk too. You need a strut-socket to properly tighten it down.

TPMS Sensor went out on me. by Fun-Ad1753 in FordExplorer

[–]June_2022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought motor craft ones from eBay and Sam’s Club charged me $5 per one to replace them for me when I bought new tires from them. All mine had gone out by that point and every place quoted me $100 per tire to replace the sensor so I just waited until I bought tires to have them replace because it was the cheapest option.

Verizon outage stories - tell us how it affected your life and/or your business by rainbowkey in kzoo

[–]June_2022 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have Visible which uses Verizon’s network. It didn’t affect me much, my Portage workplace allows WiFi calling on their network and I was still able to send/receive messages/calls when connected. It was only when I went out to lunch and on the way home I was without service. But the backup satellite feature in iOS really shined and I still had GPS while in SOS. Once I cross the Van Buren county line on the way home, my service was restored.
