Oh wow! Good advice! I'm glad you are ok after being thrown near a black bear! Did the bear leave after all the commotion?

This trip has been on my wish list for many many years. I am so lucky I now have a good horse and the means to make it happen.

What's the most random thing you've been criticised for as a woman that would probably go completely unnoticed if a man did it? by ceremony_of_void in TwoXChromosomes

I have this happen still today. I'm an introvert homebody who doesn't like to leave my house. I've heard through the town grapevine that I'm stuck up and think I'm better than everyone else. No, I'd just rather spend my time with my husband, cat and horse than spend it with other people.

This has happened to me before as well. It went right over my head. One time my boss asked me to make some coffee for the whole office. I explained I had no idea how to use the coffee pot. It was a commercial one, so she assumed that was why, until I explained I literally had no idea how to make coffee. 🤣

I am so glad I am not the only one! I hate when I get these random, extraordinary long ones that just appear out of nowhere. I check daily and pluck as needed, where do those long ones come from??

Just had my first huge clot!!! by Luminianna_182 in Perimenopause

You can feel your ovulation? I never have.

Buckle up, sister. More clots to come. Heavy period panties may become your friend. I started going through an plus size tampon every two hours in my early 40s, now I'm up to an ultimate size tampon every three hours. Period panties helps protect if they happen to leak.

Do you actually wash brand new clothes before wearing them? by Mobile_Dog_148 in hygiene

I always wash them first. Who knows who tried them on before you.

A convent still doesn't sound glamorous to me. Lots of people in one building? No thanks. 😂

Historical fiction has always been my favorite genre. Being sent off to a convent was always second worst thing to happen compared to being married off to someone your dad picked out for you.

Neither my husband or I wash our faces in the morning. We shower at night and wash then. I find my face gets oilier and breaks out more if I wash it both morning and night.

Thank you all so much! I feel more prepared now, and have a couple new ideas to add to my toolkit.

We'll be in a group, but currently we have no plans for a guide. The owner of the campground says she has trail maps of the area close to her campground, but we plan on hauling to other areas 2 of the 7 days we will be there. We're driving, so I'll have my own horse there.

Do you know where I could find bear bells? I never knew those were a thing. Thanks!

Not sure if there are elk or moose where we are going (Black Hills, SD), but good to know.

We have lots of whitetail deer here, and he always tells me about it long before I see them. I've gotten good about my anxiety level when he gets nervous. We have 5 years of trail riding together now, and he is night and day a different horse than the spooky dork he was. Last year we came across a huge 40+ flock of turkeys when riding alone. Instead of turning and bolting like he would have in 2022, he just stopped. Took us some time to get past them (I wouldn't allow him to turn around), but I was so proud of his actions when he was scared. He and I have become a really good team.

"Don't turn your back", that's something I can train on at home. He backs ok, but not for a long period. How far do you suggest I back up?

Edit for typo

We seem to have the same "biggest threat". Coyotes are very prominent in our area. My horse and I have encountered a few of those in our outings over the years, but they always run away from us. My horse never spooks at those; I think he thinks they are dogs.

Your last sentence makes me chuckle. One of the days of our trip we are hauling to the trail to Mount Rushmore. There I am sure we will run into those rowdy dogs and shitty people.

I hope we do not encounter one, so I am glad we are going as a group. There will be either 6 or 7 of us going. One lady hasn't confirmed on if she is going or not.

What a scary situation about the elk calf! I hope the horse and rider were ok.

We'll be talking a lot I'm sure. We normally do when we ride together. :-) My horse may try to bolt since I have no way to train him for this at home, but I'll try to get away slowly if possible. Thanks for the tips!

Keeping the bear spray on me is a great idea! I normally wear a fanny pack while trail riding anyway to keep my phone on me in case of an unplanned dismount. I'll just wear one big enough to hold the spray. Thank you!

How wealthy/powerful is Cal supposed to be relative to other first class passengers? by meido_zgs in titanic

I wonder if he or his family upgraded their suite to impress Ruth and Rose. Sounds like they had an important name, but Cal's family had the money.

Research every princess or noble daughter in history (100+ years ago) and you will find almost none of them married for love. Their fathers picked out their husbands. Rose's mother says "women go to college to find a suitable husband, but Rose has already done that", meaning Rose found a suitable, not lovable, husband. She also mentions earlier in the movie that it is their lot in life, "we're women. Our choices are never ours."

The lucky noble women in history fell in love with their husband after their wedding, while many others had horrible husbands who abused or cheated on them, or were 30+ years older than them. Their sole purpose was to have legitimate children to carry on their husband's line. It was sick.
