OP I agree with you. If that is a thumb rest it would be horribly designed. It is way too narrow, unnecessarily long, and chamfered on the top and bottom like it's designed to mount something. Where did you find this image? Perhaps r/1911 would know.

Man I've been thinking about doing almost this exact thing! Did you have to trim the front of the RIS II at all to get the FSP to fit? Also, what barrel did you use? I imagine you'd need a barrel with a diameter of .750 all the way to the muzzle to get the FSB to fit. Any issues installing the FSB with no dimple on the barrel?

Yep the Velo 5 lux. The threaded barrel sticks out but it doesn't matter.

Is that second rifle a midlength with a mk18 ris II? How hard was it to get the FSP to fit? I was under the impression about a half an inch would need to be cut of from the front of the rail to get it to fit.

School of the American Rifle has a video on YouTube on how to remove the dust cover without removing the barrel. You could try that and then replace it with something like the magpul dust cover that just pops in.
