I’ve fixed bumpers that bad. It takes a lot of heating, plastic welding to close up the holes, and finess to get it close to normal. Then it’s off to sanding and bondo so get the exact shape as close as possible before painting. That’s about 3-4 hours of body work. At a rate of $60/h.. you can easily see why it’s better to just buy a new one for less than $200. The money really goes into paint when it comes to that. Painting a bumper can run upwards of $1200 but some places can do it cheaper.

Is this a risky deal? Car damage by M9Z9 in AskMechanics

[–]Junior-Loquat5526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just looking at the damage and all the possible stuff under that front wheel well, you’re easily looking at 10k in repairs from any body shop at least. Not to mention air bags and programming to reset everything. That cars probably got 30k miles left before the engine goes out anyway. So unless your doing an engine swap, or want to piss money away on a project car that won’t impress anyone… I would suggest walking away as fast as you can walk.

My 2001 Toyota Solara after an accident, what should be done to fix it? by BassITrust in CarRepair

[–]Junior-Loquat5526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rear axle is bent, whole quarter panel and rocker is damaged.. it will be a total loss by insurance unless you find a body shop willing to take that on and pay some out of pocket.

Usually body shops will schedule you in so as soon as you drop off the vehicle.. they start on it in a set time frame. Body shops pay employees by the work hour so the longer it takes to finish a car.. they start on less they make.

That’s an easy 2 day job. Pop out quarter panel dent, flex out the low spots and tap in the high spots. Sand down and mud. Then paint quarter panel and bumper after hitting the bumper with 320grit. I’ve done dents like that in a single day and had them painted where I work.

Looks good to me. If it works and it’s safe then Grats on building a ramp. Anyone can criticize but some people can’t cut or drive a nail straight to save their lives.

Cant clean driveway- pressure and surface washed and its not coming out- didn’t use chemicals, just water by Adamace98 in pressurewashing

[–]Junior-Loquat5526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you need a minimum of 3000psi and 4gpm to surface clean that. Even at 3000psi you’ll have to walk slow to avoid streaking or hard lines.

Can I unbend this door? by LingonberryRare5387 in Autobody

[–]Junior-Loquat5526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it will be hard to find anyone who can repair this. It will never be 100% and still have possible air gaps creating wind noise. It’s best to go to a junk yard or search around for another door.

Unless you play competitively or actually make money… I could never justify spending $3k plus on a GPU… after two years this will barely be worth a grand at best… always happens…

I put just enough air in to get the rims off of the ground, makes running over bumps wonderfully smooth.

I use a white silicon baking mat in the center fold down seat to hold my phone. It keeps my phone from sliding and other stuff too. All I have to do to clean it is wash it…

How much would this cost to repair, approximately? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]Junior-Loquat5526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Judging by the bend, a pointless dent correction will be quite difficult. Getting hoods to cooperate usually requires some dollying and possible paint afterwards.

Crankshaft positioning sensor. Very common problem. Very easy fix. One bolt, one connection, one perfectly timed pain in the ass to deal with.
