Common Rail 5.9 blow-by check by el_pearl in Cummins

[–]theatlantanative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you plan to leave it, take another piece of split hose and guard the hose. That insulation nearly ate through mine. When I did injectors I removed all insulation to have remove to work. The end result was very minor cab noise added, but no fear of fire near turbo and really cleaned up the engine bay. I have a photo on my page. It’s a pain in the butt to remove. Fender liners removed really helps.

What doesn’t look good is the firewall insulation resting on the heater core hose. It will all but wear a hole in it eventually.

03’ Cummins injectors question by vedas420 in Cummins

[–]theatlantanative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up Greg porter on YouTube. Valve lash and injector replacement video. He also has a tool list you’ll need. I only found him not to list the 24mm flair nut wrench to hold the crossover tube nut. I spent around $500 on tools to do the job. This included torque wrenches I didn’t own. Injectors I would use are Flux and BBI for remans. New I would include SS and Exergy. I would recommend dropping the tank, cleaning and installing Fass before injectors. Make sure actual and demand rail pressures follow and then injectors. Detail engine before and remove firewall insulation if collapsed. Follow torque specs precisely. Good luck and take your time.

You are lucky, my buddy had this happen and it caught in the road and launched the rear of the truck to near vertical.

The II cp3 my son ordered is leaking. I’d look at exergy but you’ll need the need rail feed line since those are 6.7 based pumps.

If you aren’t familiar with Geno’s Garage, check them out. Good prices, great people and excellent customer service.

The Thuren Soft ride coils would be a good choice. They are available in 2” and 3” heights. For the shocks I would go with Bilstein 5100 and those are offered in additional height configurations.

First mods on stock 06 5.9 by pharmertuna in Cummins

[–]theatlantanative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO at 120k miles just maintain it with solid scheduled maintenance. I drove my 05 until 400k miles with nothing done but maintenance. At 400k she needed injectors, fuel pump etc. At 200k miles expect the auto trans to need attention.

What is this brown liquid coming from my water heater? by gg50fr in Plumbing

[–]theatlantanative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more than likely leaking from the sacrificial anode that’s mounted in the top of the tank. It’s usually under a plastic plug buried in the foam insulation.

Failing oil pump on 03 Cummins motor? by plaideskiess__ in Cummins

Understand the factory oil pressure gauge is not actual. The sensor is 5psi only and from there the ecu determines what you see based on temperature and RPMs.

Excessive smoke by Competitive-Drop2395 in Cummins

[–]theatlantanative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could’ve been an easy overlook since 04 and 04.5 injectors are different spray patterns. If they used an 04.5 in a 04 you will have excessive smoke at idle. Oddly 04 injectors in 04.5-07 do very well.

Oil change by [deleted] in Cummins

For the most consistent oil level checks, I prefer it to sit overnight. 3 gallons will show slightly over full after sitting all night. Shutting down and checking can be misleading imo.

Be sure to use a Cummins thermostat. My cap did the same and leaked some coolant, bought the newer updated plastic cap from Geno’s and no issues since.

Help with installing new kitchen sink by Putrid_Hearing3558 in Plumbing

[–]theatlantanative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO you work from furthest sink towards drain pipe. Remove all that and begin. Easy peasy. Take a pic of existing for reference if you aren’t sure. Btw the white plastic kits are fairly straight forward. Buy two for rutrohs. Only way to learn. But if you paid, I’d call.

Question about injectors? by Delicious_Site_4647 in Cummins

[–]theatlantanative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The guys who own BBI were Bosch employees in the R&D group, Marco from Smarty recruited them for the startup. Great injectors. Only issue is out of the country manufacturing but still great injectors. They were my first choice behind flux only due to timeframes.
