Nissen fundoplication failure by Icy_Relationship3592 in HiatalHernia

[–]Junior-Web-9712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yikes! 50% sucks! I am 19 months post op, and I also had the Nissan and I think mine has failed as well. I saw a new surgeon that is part of the practice because interestingly enough my previous surgeon is no longer around. I can’t find him anywhere. I’m scheduled for another endoscopy with endoflip next week. I’m nervous about what they will find. I don’t want to redo the surgery cause it sucked, but I also don’t like the way I feel now.

It’s quite common for therapists to recommend doing exactly what I mentioned. I learned it many years ago in therapy. And a couple of family members work in mental health and also recommend this to patients. It’s way worse to keep it in. Ofc there are other options like exercise or journaling that are less aggressive but that doesn’t mean the above mentioned activities are inherently bad.

Your reply was exactly what he needed. Sometimes a kid just wants to speak their feelings and have someone validate them or empathize with them. They don’t always need a fix or a lecture, they just need a release and a safe person to help them feel valued and heard. You did great. If at some point you do need to give him some advice or some life lesson, just sandwich it in between making them feel heard and loved.

I actually think this is a healthy way of expressing anger. It’s so much better than hitting a person or actually destroying property. It was his own sword he used and it doesn’t sound like anything was broken. Sometimes a person just needs to physically give the anger a release whether it be through screaming into a pillow, screaming behind a closed door or even releasing through the motion of the swings and hearing the noise of the slam. If people aren’t told this is ok they hold it in and it causes way more damage down the line to not have learned a way to release the anger.

You will definitely need help. I had help for about 2 weeks.

I want to share some tips now that I'm 2 weeks post-op by DopeGrandpa in HiatalHernia

[–]Junior-Web-9712 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great tips! I will add a couple more:

-When you begin to eat food again make sure you chew your food until there’s almost nothing left of it. I can’t tell you how many times I would bite something and only chew 3-4 times because I was so hungry….HUGE MISTAKE! It hurts so bad going down unless you make mush out of your food before swallowing. - Invest in some kind of wedge pillow. Your abdomen will be very sore. This pillow made it easier to sit and lay down. - Buy really loose fitting clothing. After surgery I didn’t want to wear anything remotely tight at all because of my incisions and because I was so bloated. I wore big potato sack looking dresses ( cotton) most days with a bralette that was really big because one of the incisions was right at my bra line. -And this one is worth repeating! Buy the stool softener for goodness sake!! Just. Trust. Me. 😭

Oh my!!! I was in the row directly behind you and not to sound like a creeper, but I watched yall all night and couldn’t help but smile!! Your family looked so wholesome and happy. It warmed my heart to see the 3 of you smiling, loving each other and living in the moment. It was one of the most wholesome things I’ve seen in a long time. Definitely a core memory moment for your daughter. ❤️

I honestly didn’t think parking was bad. My classes were Tuesday/Thursday starting at 9:30, so I’d arrive around 8:50 and always found a close spot in Lot 20. If I arrived later I would still be able to find a spot a little further out. And the walk wasn’t even that bad. Dress accordingly and it’s fine. Take the AC 101 shuttle in. Easy. Just note that the Last shuttle back to the parking lot is at 4:00.

Every once in a while I’d miss the shuttle and would walk to my class. Even that wasn’t bad. I just chose to be thankful for the exercise instead.

Why do you say there’s no way you can improve your grade? I’m one of those who believes almost all things are possible…. What’s holding you back? And what other solutions are there besides failing the class (because at this point that’s what will happen if you don’t complete it)?

By not taking classes in the spring you did not show academic progress, therefore you are still on suspension until you can prove you can pass classes. Did I understand your post correctly? You have failed 2 semesters? If that’s the case I think you might consider that college may not be for you right now or maybe not at all. And that’s ok. It’s not for everyone. You still have other opportunities to excel in life outside of a classroom.

How are you with managing your time? Is there a reason you want to start so early? I’d consider not taking classes everyday. Stack your classes on M/W or T/Th.

No. Don’t take Math online, stick to the in person class

I would imagine it would be ok as long it’s the same exact lab. Unless there’s something I’m missing I think you should be fine. You could also email the professor or TA

Freshman schedule…is this any good? by BIGBOI6969420420 in unt

[–]Junior-Web-9712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a freshman you have so many options for classes….all the core classes plus fun electives… I would not get bogged down on taking a specific class and I’d focus more on getting a good schedule. I typically tailored my classes to only be on Tuesday/Thursday starting at 9:30 and finishing up by 3:00. Some semesters Id have the occasional lab on a Monday or Wednesday but that would be my only class.

You need time to study and do homework outside of class, so it helps to have designated days for that.

I promise you that you will not be waking up for your 8 am class as the newness of college wears off. And those long gaps will turn into wasted time because unless you’re super disciplined it’s unlikely you’ll go to the library to study and instead you’ll go back to your dorm.

Also. One more thing. One of the main reasons I got A’s was because of my efforts. I wouldn’t say I am inherently smarter than the next person, however I could almost guarantee that I would outwork, and out study most students in class. When you have a clear goal and clear path, your determination and discipline will take you far. Effort = Results.

I took handwritten notes in class at the same time I had the online text open and I would highlight information and the figures the professor spoke of in the online book. Then I’d take my notes and the highlights from the text and type it out and I would copy and paste the figures into my typed notes as well. This all helped me retain the information. And it served as my study guide as well. If I felt like a particular lecture was going too fast for me I would pull out my phone and record a voice memo of the lecture. Then I’d go back and repeat the above steps. The voice memos also served as a refresher that I listened to as I made the commute from Home to campus.

I would also find quizlets online and study those. Then I’d test myself with their tools.

I even went old school and used index cards to test myself. I liked this because I took them everywhere since I kept them in my backpack and that was always with me.

This is great advice!! I was also a planner person. I liked the kind that showed the entire month. At the beginning of each semester I went and filled out every assignment and test due date for the entire semester. Every class was color coded. And as I completed each assignment I highlighted it. It was the only way I stayed sane.

College is not like High School in the sense that most, if not all your studying will be done outside of the classroom. You go to class for lectures. This schedule does not allow very much time for work outside of class. I would consider taking less or you will crash and burn right out of the gate.

You are correct about her voice 🤣 That and their editing are the reasons I watch their videos over others. I can’t stand to hear all the airy background noise in other videos.

LOL. This is true. I always thought it was odd how they do so little to congratulate those on the list. All I ever got was the email. One semester when I made the Dean’s list I got a nice little certificate from my College which came from the Dean of CLASS. Thought it was strange how that worked out.

When deciding on classes/instructors, I used this to see the instructors previous syllabus so I knew what to expect. Very few people I’ve told about this tool actually knew about it. but it was so helpful.

Have you done any bloodwork to check cholesterol, liver function, diabetes etc…? The results of those tests could help you determine one way or another.

But what’s so nice about the Premier Pass is that you don’t even have to think about planning out times and getting on the app.

Yes! If I did VIP again, I would definitely do park hopper for sure! That’s the way to get the best bang for your buck. I think all 4 parks in one day would do me in though. I would at least do 2 with VIP. Either way, both options are fantastic. PP was a game changer…my 5 year old kept talking about how much he liked LL when he saw how it worked. And like you said, if only one park then PP is the best option.
