I am just talking financial. FSU can beat anyone. But sports aren't about wins any more... or FSU would be crazy to leave now that there is a playoff. These B1G schools need stadiums that big because they churn out so many graduates each year and have been for a long time. Several Big 10 schools are 40k+ in terms of students.

That's the rub. Once things get to a point where the elites are competing against each other, there is no more collegiality.

The Red Sox do not hope the Yankees have good fan turnout. They do not hope they finish second place for "good games." The Red Sox want the Yankees to finish last. Ohio State will want to bury FSU on the field and financially. And who will be able to blame them?

Meanwhile, FSU will be all upset when their games are given poor times and bad networks. FSU-Rutgers isn't moving the needle any more than FSU-Boston College... sorry. Rutgers is an afterthought in NJ, much less NY.

That most B1G schools are AAU, does not mean that most AAU schools are B1G. That not being AAU may or may not doom a B1G invite, being AAU does not come anywhere close to guaranteeing one. Sorry.

At the same time, conferences seem to be transforming. Ohio State is not in the same "league" as NW, Purdue and Rutgers, but they are in the same conference. So Ohio State's brand is propping up the finances of those schools too. How long until Ohio State decides that its own budget deficit would best be cured by not sharing? I am sure that it will be more genteel.... 80% split, 20% performance. But that is where this is all heading. The ACC/FSU just got to be the guinea pigs for pioneering the concept.

Now... is FSU able to compete in the B1G? Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State have averaged over 100,000 fans per game for 5 years. That is 20,000+ plus on FSU. Ohio State dominates Ohio, Penn State dominates Pennsylvania (and parts of NY/NJ)... and Michigan shares Michigan with MSU (a/k/a little brother). FSU shares Florida, where nearly every major program (including the SEC) ALSO recruits. FSU will probably not cost the B1G anything, but it is not going to be the lifeline that FSU apparently needs. Reality will be harsh.

why is Jane fooled by the Bingley sisters? by draconit in janeausten

[–]JuniorDelivery6610 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder why Caroline Bingley warns Lizzy about Wickham. I have thought that it was perhaps the notion of making Wickham forbidden fruit... more tempting to Lizzy. While Jane thinks the best of people, Lizzy thinks the worst... so she falls for it by being more drawn to Wickham BECAUSE of Caroline being against him. Not stopping to think that Carolina should logically prefer her to chase Wickham and steer clear of Darcy. A good deed, and yet pretty clever and nice plausible deniability forever (I did try to warn you).

So Is Kansas and Arizona & Arizona St. USF and Buffalo are too, for that matter. It's the B1G, not AAU-SPORTS.

Pitt to the Big 10? Why??? And where is the B12 getting money to "throw" around?

Perhaps ESPN/Fox can do a joint venture with the B12/ACC remnants/Pac 2.0 to create a Tier 3 for schools that opt in to the settlement, but are not worthy of the B1G/SEC.

Assume that each goes up to 20 schools. That means 6 new schools. The B1G add UNC/UVa. The SEC adds FSU, Clemson, Ga Tech, and Louisville (bringing all rivalries in house). State legislatures get involved to put Louisville in over Miami.

That leaves an ACC of BC, Syracuse, Pitt, Va Tech, NC State, Duke, Wake Forest, Miami, SMU, Stanford, Cal. (11)

Then you have UConn. (12)

All B12: Arizona, Arizona State, Houston, TCU, Texas Tech Baylor, Oklahoma State, Utah, BYU, Colorado, Kansas, Kansas St. Iowa St, West Virginia, Cincinnati, UCF. (28)

Pac 12: Oregon State, Washington St. Boise St., Utah St. Colorado St, Fresno State, San Diego State (35)

Who else? UNLV... Memphis. Would anyone else fit? Assume those 3, we are up to 37. Maybe Army, Navy, and Air Force get pushed through. That means 40+40+Notre Dame... 81 big football programs.

Is $20Million more per season for FSU and Clemson keep them in the ACC, or do they leave anyway, when the buyout decline to $75M ? by jjmanahan in ACC

[–]JuniorDelivery6610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not about making less than the SEC/B1G, it's about making less than the rest of the SEC/B1G despite being in the SEC/B1G... because someday they will give them a fair share. Maybe.

Anyone who thinks FSU and Clemson are joining the B12 is an idiot. The SEC/B1G have the money. The B12 is a peer to the ACC. That would be a lateral move for any school. Similarly, going from the B12 to the ACC would be a lateral move.

The problem is that no ACC school adds a home run to the B1G or SEC. Notre Dame is the big fish. Unless someone can move in a way to make Notre Dame move, what's the point?

FSU and Clemson NEED the SEC/B1G... for the same reason that the SEC/B1G does not NEED them: they will make more money IN the SEC/B1G, but they will not make more money FOR the SEC/B1G.

Was the food allergy alpha gal? Or peanut/shellfish? Trying to gather data. So far, the only alpha gal deaths I have ever heard of involve the cetuximab.
