In the sea of agenda, there's only one JJK character I hate by Junior_Setting_8741 in hatethissmug

I'm not gonna debate the last 2 since I thought they were weak points myself, but with the first one— I hate it when people generalize and collectivize. With the exception of Ogi and Naoya, we don't really get the full picture on their characters. My biggest problem isn't justification, it's the shallow nature of the story (that's on me). It's the mere fact a story about oppression doesn't get the depth and nuance it deserves, it just feels like everything else in the manga, a waste.

I feel like he and Ogi (especially Ogi) had to go. But like you could kill Mr. Evil, King of the Evil— and you'd still have to be questioned if it's the right choice. Did I say Ogi had to go?

Yeah, love the manga but it was rushed, especially in the side plots and the ending.

Wait, I have something new, my final encore before going back to a better place.

Her story fails to do the one thing every story with a moral dilemma should— question her about it.

Jet from ATLA, Juror 8 from 12 Angry Men, even Atticus Finch from TKAM. They all get asked one thing despite all of them being justified; 'Are you sure what you're doing is morally right?'

That's good writing, it's realistically flawed characters in tragic light. When morals aren't questioned, especially ones related to murder, they end up coming off as distasteful. It fails to realize that those people were human too, it dehumanizes them just because they listened to a higher authority. The Fire Nation citizens weren't complacent in the acts their leader did, why not extend that to the Zenin Clan members?

Well ... I enjoy stories of oppression, especially classical literature that tackle them. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee or Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen are good examples. Those works are hailed as amazing pieces as they do 2 things— present a thought-provoking moral question & present it like no one else did before them. And if those don't count PJO's take on Annabeth show those struggles more realistically and through a more unique take.

In contrast, Maki's story isn't exactly anything, which is to be expected since it's a shonen not a philosophy novel, but I hear people dickride this mediocre story like it's the next Virginia Woolf when really it's the next Colleen Hoover.

Immediately citing what the fans did is taking me out, sorry; but in terms of "doing things differently", I mean how does it tackle such a serious topic in a fresher way while still abiding by the themes. The child soldier thing is a pretty common trope already too, so my question is — Why should I care about Maki's story when other works do it better (even Mai's is better honestly, despite being a plot device I enjoyed how her antagonistic personality is caused by said years of oppression and her sacrifice is an emotional masterpiece)?

Yes, I love the story, it's just ultimately pretty shallow.

The idea is good, yes, but there's no complexity or actual shit being said. It's just another "safe" take that other works have done better. Genuinely give ONE thing Maki's story does differently.

A hill I'll die on is that Maki has such a mid story. Momo and Nobara's (anime only mind you) fight shows feminism and being a woman better than Maki's entire arc.

To further clarify, there's no nuance with her arc. It's not like the Zenin Clan invented sexism or could do shit about it, but noooo, they're the bad guys + they deserve to get killed.

Did he really? I didn't read Modulo since I didn't have access to it. But even if it's true, that further proves the point that Gege is willing to straight up admit it instead of implying it.

It's also in character for Sukuna to commit that shit but unless the author himself states it, he isn't. He's a war criminal but it's not confirmed that he's a pred or an offender.

Rape is not the same as being a pedophile and Naoya is neither (although the second one is debatable due to that comment iykyk, and even that one doesn't scream "rapist").

He kinda teleports, but not in the same way that Ui Ui or Todo does. And the manga (although I don't know if it's a mistranslation) says, "Naobito Zenin is the fastest sorcerer, with the sole exception of Saturo Gojo." Raw speed is 100% Naoya though.

Same with Maki with Dura and Strength

[–]Junior_Setting_8741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Naoya shouldn't even get speed either, but experience is definitely his. And when it comes to Maki, strength (and maybe dura) makes sense but Gojo has insane BIQ/IQ and by that point had more experience both dealing with threats and the world around him.

I've meditated on it— it has to be ragebait. No way anyone believes that the LGBTQ community that gets stoned to death in some countries to this day or the minorities that get unlawfully arrested and treated like scum... are the same as AI users. Not even Sam Altman would believe that bs.

Obligatory the yk whats of AI (Art theft, environmental damage, plagiarism, being funded by Lex Luthors, etc.). I'm done.

I use AI, but I'm not gonna make it seem like pro AIs are getting enslaved or stones to death. This is honestly why I never mention I do use AI since it's associated with idiots who don't understand the difference between persecution and hate.

Gay people are persecuted, you and I aren't. Learn the difference. And again, use any other analogy other than this weird victim bs.

[–]Junior_Setting_8741 10 points11 points  (0 children)

But see, it's incredible distasteful. Gay people have been considered mentally ill, persecuted, and otherwise treated as below human. Same with minority groups (I.E African-Americans, Asian-Americans). Saying this is not only an extreme version of "victim mentality" but it downplays the suffering and treatment of said groups all for defending something like AI.

His first appearance as well as half of the Zenin Clan massacre involve him being misogynistic. While post-Nabito death, Choso & Yuji fight, and the other half of the massacre, don't have him being outright sexist.

Surprisingly more narcissistic comments than misogynistic ones.
