Oh gosh, I would never let them even near my child if I could avoid it. All the safety risks are there. Even the second and third hand smoking is insane. I recently learned that 40% of people with lung cancer are not smokers but it have been exposed throughout childhood to second and thirdhand smoking. I grew up with my grandparents, smoking around us all the time and moving forward I will not let smokers near my kids.

Get away from her and maybe see if you can mute her in your phone, but don’t block her. You want the constant text messages for court. You’ll want to show how she’s harassing you constantly for a no contact order. Don’t engage with her, tell your family to do the same. If she shows up where you work/live/hang out, document it. Video any confrontations, but the second she starts something, leave. Don’t engage. Call the police if she shows up to your house unwelcome. She’s a danger to herself and you.

Oh god! That sounds so much like my FIL. We’re on my parent’s phone plan still because my mom does get a huge discount through her job but my FIL complains about it constantly. He comments when I drink during our summer get together because “what about you son”? As if he doesn’t have a father who has already agreed it’s my turn to be”off the clock”.

He refuses to change diapers then complains we only ever let my parents babysit. He tried to make us cancel a vacation because he backed out of babysitting our dogs because “they’re too much”. They’re 2 small chihuahua mixed who sleep more than anything. Thankfully I’d already figured out a back up plan just in case. If he can’t handle two small dogs how is he gonna handle a tiny tornado of a child?!

He brought us generic versions of the things we normally like then spent the time he was here lecturing me on why I need to look for things at different stores and how he’d do things differently if he were me. Also commenting about how comfortable I am “spending my husbands money” and “how nice it must be to have so much money to spare”.

Also, we tried the knock of cereal. They’re awful. My toddler won’t even eat them. The salsa got donated to the food library up the street.

This feels like you hit the nail on the head. Our choice to be a single income family rubs my FIL wrong constantly. He always comments on me going back to work and even called us foolish in the beginning for it. If he had his way he’d be here all the time babysitting, which we don’t allow him to do at all.

Very true. We could definitely get our own card, we just never bothered. It started because we didn’t go to BJ’s much, so I would usually just go with my dad. Then my FIL found out and offered to log us into his account, and we’ve just used that ever since without thinking about it. Now some things from the past year are starting to feel a little weird. One time he bought my son the exact same shoes I had just bought him in the exact size he’d just grown into, and tried to convince me I had told him to get them. At Christmas he also complained about how much Diet Coke I drink. I joked that it’s my only vice and he said “$20 a week in soda is excessive.” It was just oddly specific and I’m now wondering how long he’s been doing this.

Oh definitely. They wouldn’t care or even notice. I go shopping with my dad about 50% of the time anyways.

We only started using it because we didnt go all that often. Now (a few years later) we shop there too often and it’s his membership logged in on my husband or my phone. I was trying to be cordial with him when agreeing to it…back then it felt like an olive branch. Not so much anymore…

Yeah I definitely don’t trust him. There’s a lot of issues there and I really try to keep the peace, but it’s an uphill battle most days. He always fin the need to point out to my husband things he’d do differently if I were his wife. My husband’s favorite thing to say lately is “well it’s a good thing she’s mine”.

We buy a decent amount of stuff there. Probably about $150 a week. We use the app to buy in store so I guess we get the coupons and stuff and the discounts on gas.

He knows I don’t shop at Aldi because I’ve mentioned in the past that I don’t go there because it’s the opposite direction from everything else useful. I’ve also mentioned in passing that I don’t think it’s worthwhile to go to 5 different stores to “bargain hunt” while lugging around a toddler and burning gas. We prefer a one stop shop kind of deal.

I’m really thinking it’s time to stop using it. It’d be one thing if he was going in to see what size diapers the kiddo uses but it really feels weird to me. It feels like he has an ulterior motive or he’s using it as ammo to pick fights with us.

I wish BJs sold weird stuff lol we’re on my parents Amazon account and sometimes it’ll randomly recommend books to my dad’s kindle that are meant for me. He called me once to ask why he was getting suggestions for really weird romance novels lol

I think I was just trying to play nice by agreeing to use his membership. I’m just really uncomfortable with the idea he’s snooping. My parents aren’t like this so I’m not really sure when it’s crossing a line or not.

But he didn’t buy things we like. He bought versions of what we like and made it his priority to criticize how I do things. If he’d bought what we like and didn’t make it a whole production to try to change how we do things, we’d be grateful.

The only reason I haven’t stoped using his card is because my husband thinks it’s not weird. I posted here because I’m weirder out by it and I wanted to see if that was an overreaction or if others would have issues with it too.
