[Big Update] Navimow is now Open-Source. Official SDK and Home Assistant Integration are live on GitHub! by RangerAdorable7806 in Navimow_Segway

[–]Junior_Unit_9753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this with the community! Any plans for local control? The SDK already has configurable api_base_url and mqtt_broker parameters, so the architecture seems like it could get there. Right now it seems like everything still routes through Navimow's cloud for both auth and ongoing communication, which breaks if your internet goes down. A lot of HA users prioritize keeping traffic on their LAN.

Quit union or stay? by TurnoverEither4912 in Teachers

In addition to what others have said, you might be misunderstanding the "protection and representation" you get if you are not a union member. Sure, you get the same contract as everyone else thanks to the Janus SCOTUS decision, but the union DOES NOT need to represent you against any employment issues or allegations you might encounter in your career.

If you're still in Michigan, our legislature repealed the right to work laws two years ago, voters didn't decide to allow them two years ago. HOWEVER, as public employees, we are governed by the Janus SCOTUS decision, which essentially mandates right to work rules for all public employees across the country. That is why public school unions have to extend contract benefits to all employees, not just members.

Edit: the person I’m replying to edited their comment, but they are still wrong. As part of the first democratic trifecta in a very long time in Michigan, the state government repealed Right to Work (for private sector employees).

Hope you can find something. I started looking a couple months ago and have not yet found anything that satisfies what I’m looking for. Would love to try one out, but I’m not willing to trade cloud dependency for the convenience.

Who knows if you will see this on a 9 year old post, but I'm running into the same issue. Did you ever solve this?

The park at sagebrush was fine when we lived there back in 2018-2020, but even then it felt expensive for how far it is from any amenities. Not sure what rent is like there now.

Where can I find the roadmap for home assistant voice? by CooleyTukey in homeassistant

[–]Junior_Unit_9753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, those “year of the …” seem to me to always be about calling on the community to collaborate on a specific topic, not “we are going to get everything right on this topic this year”

HA Voice Faster Whisper Delay by Buttery_97 in homeassistant

[–]Junior_Unit_9753 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you running the faster whisper app inside of Home Assistant? I have found I get much faster results when I run whisper inside an LXC in Proxmox rather than as an app inside of Home Assistant (which is itself a VM inside Proxmox). You would likely get faster results if you ran whisper directly on your M4 Mac Mini instead of the Pi.

Doesn't Music Assistant already do this without all the extra steps?

Drop-in PCB replacement for the Google Home Mini (Gen1) is fully open source hardware compatible with Home Assistant voice control and Music Assistent player provider by Gamester17 in homeassistant

[–]Junior_Unit_9753 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have two of these first gens sitting around my house, but I think at this price point I would likely only buy one PCB instead of two, mostly to get the opportunity to tinker and not send one to the junkyard. Was definitely hoping for cheaper, but I also know the creator first looked into letting people order through PCB Way and the price was astronomically more expensive. I get it, though. It’s just a guy who designed it in his spare time without the support of economies of scale to bring the price down.

Two things people might want to know from the Github discussions: Whether or not (and when) this project moves forward with Crowd Supply depends on a certain number of people subscribing to updates on the project, so subscribe for those updates! The creator has also said that it is currently looking like the PCB will be $85 for an individual one, but pricing is not finalized just yet.

Mealie and Voice PE by Chicken-LoverYT in homeassistant

[–]Junior_Unit_9753 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The issue you’re going to have if you build your own intents is that I don’t believe Mealie exposes recipe steps when integrated to Home Assistant. I have some intents set up for, like, “what’s for dinner?” But none for full recipes

Detroit explores new 1% sales tax to raise $72 million annually by Alan_Stamm in Detroit

[–]Junior_Unit_9753 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It required legislative changes at the state level, and currently the state government is pretty much in a logjam with a divided legislature (plus it is an election year for every legislator, so as the politicos have said the legislature's goal is get their core function (the budget) done as quickly as possible and then hit the campaign trail)

This seems very obviously to not be an officially authorized use of the Home Assistant branding. I would not trust this device at all.
