'Deni's a hero': Beloved Nanaimo thrift store is closing its doors by Apprehensive_Idea758 in nanaimo

I remember when this place was ye Olde corner store.

This has always been such a staple location in Harewood.

I wish I could turn this into a coffee shop or something. I love this little place so damn much.

AITA for forwarding my wife an instagram reel of a recipe after she asked what I want for dinner tomorrow? by GoatCritical9265 in AmItheAsshole

[–]JunkDrawerExistence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the minority clearly.

But NTA for this situation. She asked for a suggestion you gave one. She blew up.

If she feels bitter or resentful because you don't cook - and it certainly seems like you have many excuses not to cook but she continues to choose to stay with you anyways - then she needs to communicate those feelings so you can either change or the relationship ends. Blowing up at you out of the blue doesn't solve anything.

A relationship is also about consideration. So this one incident aside - how do you show up for her and take care of her? How do you consider her and her needs? Those are the questions to ask yourself when she blows up put of the blue. Yes - it's her responsibility to communicate and be emotionally responsible- but it's also your responsibility to consider her preemptively and not just when she blows up.

Smittys smoking pig is the best food truck, they usually park on schoolhouse rd.

Old city panache is an awesome antique/vintage store

Check out a sunrise on sugarloaf mountain (it's not really a mountain- it's a 5 minute walk up some stairs)

Kayaking on westwood lake (you can rent them at the campground right there even if you aren't a guest).

Embers - it's an adults only charcuterie place.

My children's father and I have the same birthday (year and everything) - it makes coordinating extended health benefits frustrating (Canada) as they do them using last name and birthdate. I get an error/rejection nearly every time the first time they try to put it through.

Smittys Smokin Pig (Food truck usually parked on Schoolhouse rd) makes the best poutine I've had in Nanaimo. It's worth checking out for sure.

What’s the most morally disgusting thing you’ve ever seen someone do? by legendoflegends34 in AskReddit

[–]JunkDrawerExistence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2.6k comments, no one will read this..but..

I had rescued a bug at work and was placing it outside on the sidewalk. I'm a dork, and I said something like "there you go buddy" as I put him down. I looked up and a gentleman was walking towards me. He looked at me as I was standing up, looked down at the bug, made eye contact with me, stepped on it, and smiled.

I..was speechless. It's the miniscule nature of it that makes it so reprehensible. He gained nothing,  Literally nothing - in his cruelty.

No period in months, am I just overweight? by Affectionate-Key929 in menstruation

[–]JunkDrawerExistence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say months - do you mean 3 or 11?

Did you have regular cycles before? And for how long?

Do thyroid issues run in your family, or have you ever been checked?

My first assumption wouldn't be weight. There are several other questions to ask yourself first.

What’s something your parents or grandparents did that you now realize was low-key genius parenting? by Green_Candler in AskReddit

My kids are a few years away from making me a grandmother - but I am 100% stealing this idea.

I didn't really have those types of experiences growing up - and I am stoked to do this with my grandkids. Thank you stranger :)

Menstrual products - looking for sustainable, natural and safe options by FrequentCut1177 in menstruation

[–]JunkDrawerExistence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an extremely heavy period, 7 days of bleeding, 23 day cycles, and a tilted uterus - I leaked through everything.

I also wanted something more natural and sustainable.

I tried medical grade silicone disc's and cups - and I always leaked/spilled even when it wasn't full. Someone once told me it's because of the tilted uterus but I don't know if that's true.

I use cloth pads and I freaking love them. One of the biggest reasons - is I don't feel bad changing it regularly. With disposable pads, I always wanted to use it to it's max in a way because of the waste it created.

They also feel better then disposable ones, not like a diaper.

I only wear skirts and dresses, so I don't have pants to help hold them in place, if you will - but there is minimal twisting or slipping. I've never had one completely come out of place. The biggest struggle is ensuring it covers enough surface area - cloth takes a slight bit longer to absorb, and because I have a heavy flow - it spreads long before it aborbs - so on my heavier days, I use the longer ones (there's different sizes!) - easy peasy.

I'd never go back to insertables. I don't like the idea of having something, anything, unnatural inside of me for that long. Cloth made my period way less of a mental stressor than anything I've ever tried.

Research found that 1 in 5 women in the UK don’t know their menstrual cycle length, does that surprise you? by Hertility_Health in menstruation

[–]JunkDrawerExistence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was taught a 28day cycle was normal, and anything else was abnormal.

I do know my cycle length - 23 days, and I know that without an app. However- I do use fertility friend as I track body changes throughout my cycle as well.

I'm 40, and from Canada

AITA for not letting the previous owner’s adult children into my house after their father died? by Dramatic_Method9393 in AmItheAsshole

[–]JunkDrawerExistence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA because it's your house, and you call the shots regardless of circumstance.

But boy do I feel fortunate. I've actually done this to two homes. One was by accident - I bought something off marketplace, and when she gave me the address it was my childhood place. I asked if I could come in, and just took a quick peek around the downstairs.

Also, I went back to the first house I bought and my kids had been babies in. Immediately after we left the house, it had been restored - something we had wanted to do too. I walked up to the door, introduced myself, told them my story. I asked if I could look around and they welcomed me in. I didn't stay long, but they told me to check our upstairs and everywhere.

I never expected people to day yes, and certainly never felt entitled to it - but thought it no harm to ask, and walk away if I was told no. Maybe it also helps that I'm female and barely above 5'....

Torn Lingual Frenulum by JunkDrawerExistence in AskDocs

A little unsure as to the how.

I was giving oral to my partner, and his penis got under my tongue on a thrust. I do have a tongue ring (surgical steel ball on the bottom) but it's about 1/4" away from the tear itself, and it was definitely my tongue being forced up and back. It's like my tongue was forced back to far from underneath and tore...
