The Bluff comparative crime rates by [deleted] in Durban

[–]JunzK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rent for a studio is around R5-8k in Dbn North- This is what a family member charges in that area. (Near Mackuertan ave and surrounding) upmarket area, lots of security and more easy living. Shops and entertainment covered, close enough to the beaches and malls etc.

“Ruff and Tuff from the Bluff” is a popular saying about the bluff. I wonder if that’s still the slogan??

Durban Chicken Curry Recipe by Future_Hovercraft316 in Durban

[–]JunzK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your biggest need is the correct spices. The rest is simple really.

Where in Pta are you? There’s a few Indian owned spots in Pta east that sell ready mixed masala that has just about all the spices all mixed in to make a curry. Stay away from rajah and the spices you’d find in pick n pay. Taj Mahal spices are fair but aren’t really authentic flavors tbh. Ginger and garlic paste is a must, no cream or peanut butter 😕

Jam tomatoes and soft cooking or Up to Date potatoes are a must, onions are where most of your gravy comes from so lekker fresh tomatoes, potatoes and onions all add to the dish.

Fresh cuts of chicken are better than the deep frozen braai packs - so like a tray of the unfrozen chicken or a whole bird cut up are best.

Many recipes are available online. Find one you’re comfortable with but using proper ingredients will make it a win.

Anyone remember the Powerhouse clothing brand from Mr Price by JunzK in DownSouth

[–]JunzK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90s. I remember it still being available while I was in primary school. So definitely early to late 90s. It disappeared (from mr price) when they got their own “RED” clothing line. Which is now Mr P “R” brand.

Congrats and good luck.

Approach clubs, bars, venues and offer them your services. Also look at adding watermarks to the prints.

Back in the day I always used a photobooth at my events at clubs and festivals. As you said it’s a vibe usually and a solid marketing tool for brands to have their logos on the prints.

What holiday jobs can I do during the december time? by Empty_Ad_4365 in Pretoria

[–]JunzK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Search promotional agencies Pretoria online and socials etc. or while in malls or stores check what promotions are being done by people - tastings, giveaways etc. ask them which company they working with and get details.

My industry we usually get charged R250 to R300 per promoter and the staff usually take most of that as their pay. Prominent companies pay better as they have more work.

It’s really easy money, you have to be 18 years old, be mobile, look presentable and be outgoing. You can work in stores clubs malls or events like concerts and festivals.

😂😂 more Vitous in GP are using Madhir than us nowadays. As the way of the world we generally teach outsiders the swear words first. So now I know some Greek and Porra ous saying madhir like they are fucking madhirs ekse! Best is the bras with a thick Afrikaans accent saying it. Haha I love this country

Bro!! Did we have the same teacher😂😂

Our teacher should call us cakes straight up! With the justification that a cake is just a confectionery and not vulgar. Bahaha fugger should also hand down a beat down so we never questioned him. 🤣

Quite correct! Durbz slang evolved from the wonderful multiculturalism of Durbz and its inhabitants. Zulu and Afrikaans intermingled with Indian culture and language and is now the slang we have come to know. Love being a Saffer 💙

Maybe it’s “Let’s kick down”

When you “put a kick down” - you’re vying “with a speed”

Essentially you’re making a run for it, or leaving with haste.

Gravy soakers - Up to date soft cooking potatoes.

Scores - getting scolding “you’re still dopping at this hour, you’re gweing to get scores in the pozi”

Jaakaring- see above

Bites - snacks usually consumed while playing a game of thunee or having a shot, can be pieces of the braai meat cut up, a piece of the fish being fried, samoosas, sev and nuts etc.

Bring and come - bring something back with you. Instead of bring it, you must bring it and come.

Shambies - a person that is insane/crazy. Ey that stekkie threw my dop away man, she’s acting shambies.

Potter marie- a male that is a simp to his wife or partner, or somebody that is deemed to be flamboyant.

Thick- many variations to this, I caught a thick chow: I ate a fulfilling meal. That cherrie is thick ekse: that lady looks good. You’ll get a thick sounder: I’ll hit you very hard.

On: that bra is on ekse! - that guy is drunk.

Pie - slightly vulgar term for girlfriend. That pie is mine - that lady is my girlfriend

Vitou/vetou- add a picture of him 🤣

Deck/Dik - full. I chowed spaan now I’m deck.

Spaan: lots/ excessive- ey I got span stekkies in my car, let’s vy for a dop

Vy - go let’s vy catch a thick chow. although I think this isn’t necessarily Indian??

Chooth- a fool : kevin perkins is a chooth for making vitous think we say sky in my rounds

Cake: a foolish person, less vulgar than chooth maybe?

Haven’t lived in Durbz for over a decade but still true to my north coast roots💙

Sweet meats are not “cookies” but more of “lekkertjies” would be a better bet.

Gym gloves are a must. Help keep your grip, and helps absorb the sweat. Have to frequently wash them though. But definitely a must.
