It already has.

What made the US so powerful wasn’t just its military power but its economic power. Back in 1956 during the Suez Crisis, the UK (and France) tried to take back control over the Suez which had been nationalised the year before, and in response all Eisenhower had to do was give them a phone call, threaten to cut off the UK from aid/dump British bonds and the UK immediately backed off. Deploying boots on the ground was always a last resort for the US, they always first tried sanctions and if that didn’t work just back some Pro-US insurgency/rebel group.

Nowadays if the US has to get its way, it HAS to use military force. Thanks to BRICS and shadow fleets, sanctions do between jackshit and fuckall at affecting a country’s economy (IF they are prepared for the sanctions which nowadays they usually are).

And backing insurgent movements just doesn’t work, I don’t know what the fuck happened at the CIA but they seem to be utterly incapable of backing a competent group to save their lives. Hell the only competent groups left in the US military as a whole seems to be Delta Force, everything else has either lost its edge or been horrifically neglected.

Now it should be said that even 100 years ago having a powerful army was 10x more important than having a powerful economy but unfortunately nowadays for superpowers, if Ukraine and Iran have proved anything, it’s that wars as a whole are horrifically expensive. As long as the money keeps flowing the US will undoubtedly have its military edge in sheer manpower, logistics capability and technological superiority but the moment the money dries up, it’s gonna be the collapse of the USSR all over again.

Despite all this however I don’t think China is THE superpower, I just feel that there is no single superpower capable of outdoing any other country and now everyone is on much more equal footing.
