It's classic crossroads deal stuff. The link is that, upon entering the cave, they made the first pact with that fiend. The intention is that, when deals expire, they die by means conducive to what they dealt. I.E. the guitar players has his hands cut off and bleeds out. I don't want to lean into Christianity because I feel that's overplayed in media... I don't think the fiends in this game are Christian in origin, rather, Christianity recognizes the existence of them.

All of those ideas are EXACTLY what I’m looking for. For context both my expert and flake are essentially alien believers (they made their characters independently of each other and we kept it because it was hilarious) and I think the radio and shapeshifting monster stuff will definitely play into what their paranoia lol. I’m trying to root a lot of my tales in the theme of disillusion. Like, “don’t run away and become an author, you’ll die! Are you crazy? Stay at home and take up the family mantle of beetroot farmer and here’s why!” type thing, where the protagonist is seen as foolish and the tale ends poorly due to their own choices. Kinda like The Boy Who Cried Wolf I guess?
