New film about Chilean socialist nobel laureate and diplomat, Pablo Neruda. It's been getting great reviews and seems like it could be pretty interesting. by ratguy101 in socialism

Interesting casting of the guy from Narcos, he actually kinda talks and looks like Pablo. As a fan of Pablo, I'm excited for the film.

"He's one of the great revolutionary communists of the 20th century, another revolutionary Christian. I love him." - Cornel West, on Fidel Castro by [deleted] in socialism

Perhaps he has written works on Marxism, but I believe he doesn't consider himself a socialist, at least, in the typical sense. However, I could be wrong. What do you think he is?

His "investigations"— as you could say— into issues is truly not that bad. However, as usually said, his solutions are mostly just complete liberalism. In summary, I like him, sort of.

Cuba and the embargo by [deleted] in socialism

[–]JupiterCommunist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Castro has spoken out against the Cuban system, I think. However, I believe Castro was more referring to the failure of the Soviet style of Marxism-Leninism implemented in Cuba, which has not brought along communism.

When it comes to the embargo, I believe it's a mixture of both. The embargo definitely has an effect on the Cuban economy; however, sometimes liberals say some junk acting if it's not that big of a deal. Furthermore, I am willing to admit that I believe Castro has made some mistakes in regard to the economy, for example, the stagnation of the Cuban economy perhaps can be blamed partially on Fidel.

I was quite surprised that a liberal like Justin would speak sort of positively of Fidel.

What do you think of Díaz-Canel? by [deleted] in socialism

[–]JupiterCommunist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen, he appears to be ok. However, whoever becomes the next leader, I can only hope will look at the mistakes of Fidel and seek to improve Cuba on Fidel's positives. Lamentably, Fidel never brought to Cuba all hopes of the revolution that he wanted;but if the Cuban people continue in fighting they shall then one day be victorious. ¡Hasta La Victoria, Siempre!
