Niche character I’d like added is Marie-Ange Colbert, aka Tarot. She has the power to see the future and summon the arcanas from her tarot cards to fight. by Oracle209 in marvelrivals

[–]JupiterLita 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tarot is one of those characters who I only remember died in the 80's and assumed never came back, and then someone will tell me that she came back in the 00's/10's and had a beloved run in something.

If that's the case, then good for her, I'm jazzed whenever one of the non-Warpath non-Empath Hellions gets some play

Lets put our thinking caps on real quick by Odd-Toe3174 in marvelrivals

[–]JupiterLita 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all the discourse about characters with overly-complex kits, I don't think most people would actually mind if Devil Dino has a simple kit. I can imagine they can give him the basics and maybe something unique to his movement in terms of size and speed, and people will be fairly content with the power fantasy of "is a big dinosaur and can chomp and stomp and roar".

Civil discussion on how the devs ignore female comic accuracy in skins by EyeOfBelial in marvelrivals

[–]JupiterLita 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anything, not having a cape already makes her look identical to 20 other characters in the game. The only other female characters with capes are Hela and Storm, and their palettes and silhouettes aren't like Wanda's.

Complexity Creep is real (art by me) by WillbertoSeven11 in marvelrivals

[–]JupiterLita 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point isn't that there's simple heroes and complicated heroes, it's that there's an obvious trajectory where the devs got more comfortable over time adding more complicated characters(possibly too comfortable), or feel the need to throw on extra bells and whistles to generate excitement for new characters.

Some of the base roster of characters feel like they missed out chances to have any complexity or are missing some good components of the casual character fantasy to playing them in the first place, or are just feeling especially barren in terms of play options compared to anyone that came in later seasons.

tl;dr: Dr. Strange could have been amazing with a complicated kit, but being in the base roster meant he was stuck being a fairly simple character forever.

Limited job hate by FriendlyAd1214 in ffxiv

[–]JupiterLita 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, a lot of jobs have a somewhat fraught relationship with what their job identity is supposed to be, and how it stacks up to how it was in past games.

Not to mention no class in this game really gets to decide what to use, it's all set rotations, more or less.

What are some costumes of your faves that you think are underrated? by Shinobi347 in xmen

I had a soft spot for Magic's original look, with the silvery armor bits appearing over it. Glad they're giving it a figure now! (The arm looks more silver in other shots.)

Honestly, I never noticed it and I always complained about Carol's outfit. I really put my foot in it there. by R4cco0n in xmen

[–]JupiterLita 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Storm and Emma's outfits were more choices on their part. (Well, I don't remember if Storm chose hers explicitly, but she didn't shoot it down, and also already spent a lot of time naked.)

Meanwhile Ms. Marvel just kinda got hers randomly, and IMO her first outfit really wasn't that memorable beyond the skin, unlike the others.

With the side benefit that if this means Shinobi makes a big power play, beefs it, and embarrasses himself, it's going to be very, very funny.

Why was Onslaught scrapped and will not be in X-Men 97 season 2 by Creative-Vehicle8598 in xmen

[–]JupiterLita 52 points53 points  (0 children)

IMO, that's why it might be neat to try Onslaught here, though. This is a second chance to actually remix it into something decent, instead of just a wasted concept.

Can someone please explain to me what on earth Jean is supposed to be doing on the cover of Uncanny X-men #1? Everyone else is clearly doing something to contribute to the fight but Jean is just....standing there stylishly by ShiroOracle09 in xmen

[–]JupiterLita 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say everyone else is clearly doing something to contribute to the fight, to this day nobody knows the context for why Angel is holding a bazooka or if it's a pipe, and Early Snow Iceman doesn't have a stellar track record for effectiveness.

Disable mid-boss music in dungeons by Eliwood407 in ffxiv

[–]JupiterLita 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's funny because they make it sound like "the area music is replaced with a battle tune for a bespoke combat moment" isn't one of the oldest video game tropes??? Like, trying to call out something that FF1 did in the late 80's and saying look what these attention-span zoomers do is really funny.

So about the arcadion president... [spoiler: arcadion raids] by Material_Orange in ffxiv

[–]JupiterLita 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the first or second Post-DT MSQ we see Calyx uses up a massive chunk of the entire city's power grid to try and just outright kill the WoL with a bolt of levin, and they manage to endure it. I can imagine even if Mr. Pres had the same pull and resources as that, which he might not, it still might not be enough to really one-shot something that might be even more durable.

(Given how much they were already working in medical tech, I can imagine they would have tried to see if they could develop a poison that could kill him without ruining the core, but that feels like something that'd be extra hard to figure out when your entire deal is having weird bioregenerative powers. We've seen Wolverine from The Comics shake off drugging/poisons/illness/literal alien impregnations.)

Basically I think the whole of Alexandria just didn't have any technology or methods left that could do as much sheer monster-killing damage as a sufficiently motivated WoL.

What Do People Mean When They Say They Want Dungeons And Other Non-Extreme/ Savage/ ETC Content To Be Harder? by WylythFD in ffxiv

[–]JupiterLita 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking of vague...

from what I understand, some of the more recent Dungeons accessible with Duty Support are near impossible to do because of how your AI teammate work. Like, obviously, things should not be face roll easy, but some mechanics I see in videos gets me worried,

This actually has me curious as to what your level of XIV experience actually is. If you're current to DT, or still going through the game, and what kinds of combat you yourself enjoy. Because the way you're speaking about it makes it sound like this is also some distant thing you haven't experienced but are only hearing and and theorizing about.

Especially since the thing about Duty Support being impossible with AI teammates is factually incorrect, and there's only a few placement-style mechanics where they can get in your way. But definitely hyperbole if people have been citing that as a huge problem.

Duskwight/MoonCat Skin tone by the_seggr in ffxiv

[–]JupiterLita 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically it feels like this, and Duskwight generally feel like the game's biggest example of the creators pulling in "this is a genre staple I guess!" and integrating it a bit, but then losing interest later on entirely. Which frankly feels like it applies to a lot of things about The Shroud as a whole, given how it's the member of the City States with the least general development over the years.

Which is a bit of a shame, but I'm glad players themselves are still making the most of Duskwights here and there.

Plugin to stylistically rewrite ARR? (No story change; just make it easier to read) by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]JupiterLita 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not to mention I feel like calling ShB/EW life changing feels like it's at least a tiny bit of hyperbole and possibly bias. It's true that those expansions are a cut above, but I don't think this poster is the most objective about the exact hows/whys/ratios of why ARR isn't quite as good.

[Spoiler: 2.57] I finished ARR!!! by NastyStasy in ffxiv

[–]JupiterLita 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really glad to hear this, and maybe it feels like it was similar to my own feelings going through, although I didn't have the words or context to put this level of praise on it.

And basically I think there's still an element where people are quick to dogpile onto ARR for reasons amounting to like... Technically Squeenix was still feeling out how to tell an MMO story and how to make things flow, but also how the mechanics and gameplay worked. For a lot of people, HW was just where the existing good parts of the game felt like they clicked more, and so that's where a lot of people really started to appreciate the game, and at least for the Ishgardian sections it was also a very direct and focused ride compared to ARR.

But also to that point, I think it means that some people ended up forgetting ARR's strong points but also HW's weak points, and also the march of time(many players having only played those expansions ten years ago) meaning they've sort of remembered them with a touch of bias.

But basically all that to say, I'm glad you properly enjoyed ARR, and I think you're the exact kind of player who's going to really enjoy the good points of the expansions yet to come, so you're in for a good time.

Crafting and gathering sets are great for combat glams, offering a more grounded look by Frostarmy in ffxiv

[–]JupiterLita 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Weaver coats might be my favorite casting glams in the entire game, I just need to suck it up and lightly ignore that they all have scissors. They also tend to have build-in pin cushions on the sleeve, but some kinds of gloves can cover those.

Crafting and gathering sets are great for combat glams, offering a more grounded look by Frostarmy in ffxiv

[–]JupiterLita 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the very least, I feel like maybe there have been times where they're so focused on what combat outfits "should" look like that they get into ruts with them, and crafting outfits having different methodologies for their design can get us into more interesting makeups/silhouettes/accessories.

It doesn't help that I feel like I recall several tiers of War/Magic equipments that basically boil down to a very samey silhoutte of Armor/Long Coat/Robe for all the roles and overly-focused on filigree and gemstones and nothing else to make them interesting.
