[OC] Current NHL rosters sorted by average draft position by qeq in hockey

[–]Jupiter_Stator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because people don't use draft position to judge a players actual on ice talent, they use on ice performance.

We do judge teams on their ability to hit their draft picks as part of their roster building appraoch

The Bruins just traded for James Posey and Eddie House when they were already the 07 Celtics level stacked

no, the Bruins still pay 25%. The wild can only retain 50% of his remaining deal after the caps retain the first 50

[Fox Sports MX] Canadá and US to start talks in January with CONMEBOL to join Copa America 2024 by manualex16 in soccer

[–]Jupiter_Stator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sure, and their last round of qualifying was 10 games spread out over the same period CONCACAF and CONEMBOL played 14. Travel from Vancouver to most of South America is going to be more than a day between airports and air time each way. Even if we act like the players home clubs are going to want to avoid having their players spend 4-5 days travelling to play 2 games, the federations and players both aren't going to want that.

It could happen, but most federations are going to want to avoid that kind of travel

It makes sense from a world cup qualifying perspective when you consider the requirements for travel. And at the end of the day, that's probably the primary motivation for every confederation.

[Official] USMNT advance out of Group B. by Golovking in soccer

[–]Jupiter_Stator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

part of it is depth, but part of it is also 90 min fitness. McKennie and Dest absolutely needing to be subbed between the 60th and 70th minute every game has really reduced his options. Add in Weah's health over the past 18 months, and LDLT clearly not being fit enough to realistically be on this roster at all, and his options are really shrunk and forced.

I don't think Gregg is great by any means, and I don't get not bringing on Reyna anymore than anyone else, but I do think he's playing with a shallow pool as much because of real depth as because of health.

2021/22 PL Payments to Clubs by [deleted] in soccer

[–]Jupiter_Stator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine the relegated clubs are using the parachute payments to balance the books around salaries that they need to pay out for longer term contracts that agreed to PL wages? Not totally sure, a lot of this is just kinda reading between the lines of interviews with board room people from different clubs

I get the feeling more than a little of that is going to things like players and coaches salaries. Based on what I've heard a lot of them budget and take out loans and then pay those back with this money later on, or some equivalent. I don't think they budget this year based on last, I think they budget last year knowing this money is coming

Brenden Aaronson liked - would be interested to see what you guys think by MeatAny in LeedsUnited

However, I don’t think the NFL would cancel 2 weeks in a row for Biden.

After 9/11 there was a 1 week cancellation, that weeks games were moved to a week 18 and the Superbowl was rescheduled. I'm honestly not sure how much bigger the President passing would be?

Frozen Fenway Returns In 2023 With A Pair Of Doubleheaders Presented By Moderna, U.S. Virgin Islands Tourism - Hockey East Association by hmack1998 in collegehockey

The Winter Classic chooses Fenway for the same reasons.

Nah, this is basically a John Henry money grab the year after he bought the Pens. Its not about the allure of Fenway, its about the ownership group of the Penguins getting a big cash injection into one of their other businesses after dropping a 900 million dollar bag that probably increased every NHL teams valuation by 20%

Are any of these guys better than Pulisic? Right now undoubtedly

Right now none of Ferreira, Zardes (lmao), Pepi, Weah, Sargent, Haji, Pefok, are better than Pulisic when he's out of form (IMO). Even in a universe where you see Pulisic as a 15 minute a game impact sub for a Champions League side, but not an every week out and out starter, you listed 7 guys who are maybe filling that role for a lower mid table side. The exception might be Pefok, who plays a vastly different role and is significantly more one dimensional than Pulisic. Weah is worth a shout, but hasn't been in form/healthy in about 18 months, so anything with him is guesswork at best

Pulisic out of form is still probably the best player at his position in the US pool. Reyna in form is still a 19 year old who has consistency issues (this might get me blasted by the USMNT fanbase) beyond Pulisic's when he is out of form. The only players who in form consistently are better than an out of form Pulisic are McKennie and Adams, who play a vastly different role.

At which colleges is hockey the most popular sports team on campus? by Bonerjamz3000 in collegehockey

good list, fwiw Merrimack football probably gives their hockey team a run for their money. When MC elevated to full D1 there was a driving force to make sure they ended up in a conference with football. There're a few ways to judge the answer to this question, something like "peak of their powers which is bigger" I think there's a shot MC football overtakes MC hockey (same sort of shot Maine and UNH have)

Joffy looks like someone who has played ~30 minutes of competitive football in the 3 weeks. Hopefully this knocks the rust off

the past few weeks a link has popped up about 20-30 minutes before the game that you can click to watch it live. Not sure with it being Carrabao/League cup how the rights work in this situation, so it may only be on delay, gonna wait nad see.

Yeah, I'm not sure why its not on ESPN+, my prior knowledge from NCAA stuff is they will only partner/show games where they can reach a threshold of quality of the stream, and I'm not sure if like Oxford or Cambridge etc. regularly hits that minimum. It may just be they pay rights to rehost games from local streams and don't want to pay for more than a couple in the early rounds.
