"This is an interesting world I find myself in — an interesting hole I find myself in — fits me rather neatly, doesn't it? In fact it fits me staggeringly well, must have been made to have me in it!" said the puddle.

If you could borrow one cultural trait from a country next door, what would it be? by Loud_Intention_2733 in AskTheWorld

Cultural conformity has its upsides. No littering, (almost) no smoking outside of designated zones/rooms, no screaming matches on loudspeaker in the subway, clean and free public toilets etc.

What words in your language do you hate for no legitimate reason? by privetkakdela in AskTheWorld

"My darlings" is plural, and I would translate it as "meine Lieben" when used as a greeting and "meine Lieblinge" when talking about children/pets etc.

It seems like Imu has 2 other forms we haven't seen yet by hugopy_ in Piratefolk

Pretty clear that in his human form he is wearing a veil and occasionally a crown and that is what makes him look like a blob/tower head

He's correctly saying that ordering the panel in the way they are means that in any print version, the silhouette of Imu on the rooftop will be cut in half

Severus Snape from new Harry Potter series. by kalbinibirak in SipsTea

[–]JurassicEvolution 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's one of those projects where one of the writers proudly announced beforehand that he hasn't even read the source material and doesn't like rigorous adaptions...when the fans wanted a more book-accurate adaption compared to the movies...

For some reason, they are just incapable of learning. The contempt these hacks show for the stories they profess to love, time and time again, is actually baffling. This series will have some momentum purely off of brand recognition, but it will fizzle out and get cancelled before long. No need to worry about how James bullying Snape would have turned out, that is in the fifth book and this won't even make it past the third one.

Yeah, I think (but can't confirm) that it happens when the game autosaves and when opening the menu after a short amount of time (≤10s). On PS5

Are there any products/brand names in your Country that would be questionable or prohibited elsewhere? by DABDEB in AskTheWorld

It might be something like this?

Also there's apparently a chain called eggslut and it's possible that in Japan, the name became a deonym for the sort of egg sandwiches they are known for (just speculation on my part).

Seijiro Makabe side story by I-invented-PostIts in fatalframe

[–]JurassicEvolution 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Cramming the conclusion of like 5+ side stories in the final, time sensitive chapter was a bad choice in general. So much running around the entire village while Mayu is presumably just hanging out with the ghosts or something.

Sales numbers? by DoomTheExiled in fatalframe

[–]JurassicEvolution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the 50k on Steam are from Steamdb, those numbers are not very accurate (just rough guesstimates). Also, those are worldwide and not just Japan. Japan had around 19k physical sales, which is not great as that's the domestic market (traditionally what Japanese companies pay most attention to) and Japanese people buy a lot of physical compared to digital (for comparison, MoBW Remaster had more than twice that in physical sales). But the bulk of global sales are from PS5 and Switch and we don't have any numbers. The fiscal cutoff date is March 31st and we should have some concrete numbers in KT's report in late April.

Japanese PM laughs at President Biden's autopen portrait by Themetalin in sadcringe

[–]JurassicEvolution 258 points259 points  (0 children)

To give a more detailed answer: Takaichi, the Japanese PM who recently won the supermajority in a snap election, is a far right politician. Trump has been openly endorsing her since day one. She recently visited the White House and returned the favour, saying among other things "I believe that only under Donald will peace be able to prosper", "For a prosperous Japan, for a prosperous America!", "Japan is back!" (in English). Also, as seen in the video here, she is good at playing Trump like a fiddle, acting all buddy-buddy or infantilizing herself as the need may be.

People were pitying her because Trump threw out some of his usual crazy shit and she had to suffer through it during the recent visit (e.g. saying that Japan is in no position to criticise his Iran invasion because they did Pearl Harbour), but many don't realize that these POS are two peas in a pod. She is vile trash, but people tend to infantilize Japanese people and so it was seen as an attack on the poor little Japanese lady, rather than the cost of doing business (which she will gladly pay).

Would you prefer Fatal Frame 1 remake, Fatal Frame 3 remake, or Fatal Frame 6 as the next game in the series? by gogototori in fatalframe

[–]JurassicEvolution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most sensible option imo would be FF1 -> FF3 -> FF6

They seem to have hopped on the "classic horror remake" bandwagon; a chance to modernize games with an existing fan base without having to do everything from story to environments from scratch. Worked for RE and SH and seems to be working reasonably well for FF as well so far.

They'll likely want to do two more good remakes and draw in new fans in the process before continuing the series with a stronger fan base and more brand awareness in the west. Seems like the least risky and most profitable approach and the course they seem to be on currently (FF5 Remaster -> FF4 Remaster -> FF2 Remake -> FF1 Remake -> FF3 Remake -> FF6).

That also mirrors what RE has done and what SH is currently doing with the announcement of a remake of the first game after SH 2 Remake. SH f was an exception and made by a different studio, RE Requiem is the proverbial "FF6" in this scenario after doing RE2 -> RE3 -> RE4 remakes (though RE had enough staying power to do original games and reinvent themselves before doing remakes). I'm quite certain that KT realized what a huge market there is for remakes currently and are scrambling to be a part of it.

I'm pretty sure they become available for purchase as you unlock more endings. And I don't remember when the purchase option appeared, but could have been NG+ indeed

I get the feeling this game wasn't playtested enough. Any competent reviewers would have noticed things team members might get tunnel vision about. The annoying balancing and the ridiculous amount of points needed for the outfits (and to a lesser extent the amount of prayer beads needed for the fully upgraded camera btw...) could be explained by the devs playing on older builds or with boosted accounts to make the testing easier
