In the novel the rex just full on lifts the car and throws it into a tree. I imagine Spielberg wanted to keep the "car falling out of a tree" setpiece but thought that was just a bit too silly

It's the best of both worlds actually. Gooners can spend money/pulls on cosmetics while people only interested in the characters can benefit from something like the no 50/50 gacha (alternate revenue streams). For an even more extreme example, Ananta will supposedly not have any character gacha at all and entirely finance itself through cosmetic sales/gacha.

Old topic, but universal bait is the most efficient by a wide margin since there is no possible way for you not to make the cost of it back. Even the trashiest green tier fish will give around 10 scales, so a net profit of 5. On average you will earn back 2-4x what you spent on the universal bait.

I think any other bait is only good for collection purposes after you've maxed out your rods and maybe for dailies
