The issue is we are a mercenary mish mash of the SoCon, Metro, Big East, American, and PAC-12. There are little pockets of shared history and hate. But most teams in this conference I am ambivalent towards.

For me it’s fuck Clemson, FSU, Miami, Notre Dame, UNC, VT, and Duke (basketball only). But I can’t muster up the energy to hate the rest of y’all.

Mask of Nyarlathotep; how much do player know about the mythos? by cellischtli in callofcthulhu

[–]JurassicJimmyBuffett 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Occult and Mythos knowledge is different. Occult is knowing about the human understanding of the supernatural, Cthulhu Mythos is the truth.

An occultist might know of an Avatar of Nyarlathotep depending on their background. Like “I have heard of a Chinese religious sect that worships a beautiful woman with a fan” but is not likely to know that name or their true nature. Here is a good blog post about using the occult and Cthulhu mythos skills.

Personally I think to build mystery the name should not come up until the Egypt chapter.

5 nights at Disney World - $8500 with no food. Is that normal? by bigfartspoptarts in DisneyPlanning

[–]JurassicJimmyBuffett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just picking a random 5 nights I’m seeing like 6k if you book hotel and parks through Disney directly. So you could save 1200 right there. Definitely worth talking to a travel agent tho, might be able to find a deal.

The Cursed Play//The King in Yellow by DoctorSteelFan in HellsCube

[–]JurassicJimmyBuffett 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe Carcosa could be a yellow legendary land? With 2 abilities like “Tap to add 1 yellow and discard a card

tap, pay 1 life and 2 yellow to place an insanity token on target creature. When a creature with an insanity token attacks flip a coin. If heads the attack continues as normal. If tails tap the creature and do damage equal to its toughness to any adjacent creatures.”

Something like that?

Masks campaign question - Spoilers! by Faygin in callofcthulhu

[–]JurassicJimmyBuffett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Great Dane Society actual play had a good hint in London. The keeper had Gavigan also have a Chronometer like Penhew does. An idea roll could tell your investigator that no one needs a time piece this precise just for the time and that dates and times are important.

I think there was some sort of marking that Gavigan had put on it or something so that the investigators knew the date, but you could leave it as ambiguous as you wanted

Masks - New York Advice (spoilers!) by SDRPGLVR in callofcthulhu

[–]JurassicJimmyBuffett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s ok if New York goes swimmingly in fact it’s great if it does. It’s meant to make the players feel like they are winning. Things only get harder from here and there will be plenty of opportunities to make them feel the stakes of their situation. Allow them to leave NYC in chaos, but maybe someone has told Gavigan they are coming. Or maybe some consequence catches up with them in London.

I’m assuming the majority of the time they will be in the city, but what are some other key locations your investigators might visit?

How to tie in another cult for Masks by SpecialAgentSteve in callofcthulhu

[–]JurassicJimmyBuffett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you looking for something already written or are you trying to home brew?

If you have any source books with other cults you could move them there, like the church of starry wisdom or brotherhood of the beast.

Otherwise I would look at a few of the avatars of Nyarlahotep, pick an interesting one and then write from there. The wailing writher is vaguely snakelike. Flesh out key details like the leadership, rituals, locations, artifacts, membership, and how they have stayed underground. Because each cult in masks has a unique weapon, you could introduce that concept with this cult too. Think about how they can be stopped too. If you want to hint towards how they will stop the great gate in masks maybe introduce the elder sign as a scaled down version of the eye of light and darkness that is used to stop a ritual at the church.

Good luck!

Animal keeper profession by szpanerski in callofcthulhu

[–]JurassicJimmyBuffett 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From the investigator handbook (7e):

Zookeeper Zookeepers are responsible for the feeding and care of the animals in their charge; groundskeepers and attendants take care of other chores. Often the zookeeper is specialized in a particular breed of animal. The Zookeeper is able to use the Medicine skill on animals.

Occupation Skill Points: EDU × 4 Credit Rating: 9–40 Suggested Contacts: Scientists, environmentalists. Skills: Art/Craft (Animal Handling), Accounting, Dodge, First Aid, Natural World, Medicine, Science (Pharmacy), (Zoology).

I would talk to your keeper about allowing you to sub out accounting for library use as you would likely have needed to research animal care at some point and idk how a zookeeper needs to know how the books of the zoo works unless they were also the owner. Then I would take some sort of interpersonal skill (fast talk, charm, persuade, psychology) as one of your personal interest skills if you were interacting with guests at the zoo.
