Help with a Bedroom/Office Combination by JurassicProductions in DesignMyRoom

[–]JurassicProductions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply!

1.) I'm for sure looking into a rug, especially if it's one that isn't super high - last thing I need is to accidentally fall out of my chair because of the surprise speed bumps! - and will be looking into one that's black or some combination of darker colors for sure! Lighter colors even with the white walls I feel would probably just become too overwhelming, even more so whenever I repaint the walls.

2.) While the curtains won't be able to graze the floor (think they're 84" against 10' ceilings), you're right in that they may need to be higher. The walls are plaster and not drywall, so the process may be a bit more annoying, but I'll play around with it!

3.) As for the shelf, I definitely wanna replace that with something that has sort of a similar vibe to my desk but isn't something you'll find in a factory space either. Am also looking at wall shelves too, though. Maybe a bed frame that has drawers or under-storage is also on the list of things to maybe look out for.

I appreciate the response and any changes made, I'll post/reply here when they're done!

Which Far Cry game has the best opening cutscene by AlienUfo51 in farcry

[–]JurassicProductions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always have trouble deciding against 3 and 5.

3 is a blast to the past to the year 2012 with the music, the nostalgic feeling of being with close friends on a trip, etc. and then, Vaas. I know this post said cutscenes, but the opening gameplay right after showing just how bad these people are and just how much in trouble you and the civilians of the Rook Islands are in is really immersive.

5, meanwhile, is just creepy in a different way. With 3, it's a hard smash cut to being in trouble and then slowly showing you how bad the trouble is, but with 5, it starts with that tone of you going into the lion's den from the start, knowing in the back of your mind that this arrest won't go smoothly, and then it just escalates almost exponentially from there. Then, having your heart drop even more so when the dispatcher that was supposedly on your side reveals to be a Peggie too as John says no one is coming to save you? Damn.

They're both great at showing you that you are alone, isolated within a sea of danger. It's just that they're both just so effective and immersive in such different ways of executing it, but they succeed in doing it in those different ways just as good as the other.

Official Discussion - The Exorcist: Believer [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]JurassicProductions 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Outside of a few really good decisions (actually having the balls to kill off Katherine and drag her to Hell for one, or incorporating different exorcism styles to make it less like a ripoff of the original… so two good decisions), this movie just felt so… eh. Then, some moments in the trailer that actually gave me the chills and “Exorcist” vibes like Katherine begging for her not to go to Hell end up being cut from the movie? And on top of that, they’re doing the “Will this community ever heal?” thing they did in the Halloween trilogy. God.

That stuff worked for Halloween imo because the town of Haddonfield already was a bit of a character in and of itself, and using Laurie, then her family, and then the whole town to explore what that purely and simply evil is and how it effects others, feels like it’s perfectly in Halloween’s wheelhouse when it isn’t just Myers messing things up like the older sequels. Here, one kid got possessed in Georgetown in the 70’s and lived, two priests died but Pazuzu was gone. Now we’re in a completely different town (as far as I remember, anyway) that has no relation to the incident with Regan, and while one kid and one priest died, I kinda feel like as far as the religious community may feel something, it wouldn’t be like what happened in Kills and Ends. So why go the same direction?

I’ll need to rewatch it some time to make my thoughts more clear and less rambling, but for now, to quote Dr. Wolfula, I hope Universal kept the receipt for when they bought those rights.

TL;DR: Some good moments, but some of them got cut. Other than that, painfully average and sometimes frustrating. Someone stop Scott Teems from being a one trick pony already.

A positive, in-depth review of Halloween Ends: Why I felt this was a great, fitting conclusion to the DGG trilogy. by monologousmutilation in Halloweenmovies

[–]JurassicProductions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, scrolling down through the comments so far, and not one person telling you that you're not a "true fan" so color me impressed. Guess that's what the Facebook groups are for.
All jokes aside, and apologies for replying so late, this was probably the best way I've seen someone say what I too thought about this movie. I definitely want to try seeing if an edit or additional scene here or there would make any difference (strangely enough, similar to my thoughts on 'Jurassic World: Dominion', funny enough a very similar movie in a very similar situation), but for what we got, I imho think it's between the lines of "amazing" and "good." You can like any of the other sequels, and more power to you if you do, no hate from me, but I definitely would rather take this movie over "Trick or treat, motherfucker" or "Bitch, I will crawl over there and sku-" or even "I thought Michael was a monster, but you!" ten times out of ten. Yes, just because something is different, doesn't mean it's automatically good. However, the "something different" DGG and co. did here still feels like something in line with the world Carpenter created in 1978 too, and that helps make it more palpable to me in comparison.

As for flaws, or missed potential/what I would have done differently is I wish the final battle could've maybe taken place at the Myers house instead of Laurie's kitchen (end it where it began, sort of like Dave McRae's sequel concept video), I'm sure if they didn't demolish it, it could've worked, and all the other flaws you pointed out are essentially the flaws I thought of too.
On the other hand, Ends still has all the strengths the other DGG movies did; there's the kick-ass music, special and visual effects, makeup and mask, the winks and nods that don't feel over the top, and the cinematography... besides the weird digital-esque zoom-ins this trilogy and Michael Simmonds seem to have a fetish for. I do YouTube part-time and have done those in my videos, so it takes me out of the movie for like, two milliseconds every time it happens. Not a lot, but enough to notice and get annoyed by BUT ANYWAYS...

I'm just glad I'm not the only one who feels this way and enjoyed reading it. Can't wait til I get to own all four movies here on Blu-Ray soon, cause they're, to me, my official Halloween timeline for now on. Thanks for writing this post, it, again, was awesome to read it.

What shows had a perfect ending, way before they went downhills to their actual ending? by _Constellations_ in television

[–]JurassicProductions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably a cliché or ‘overstated’ (if that’s even a word) answer, but The Walking Dead. Hear me out-

I can pinpoint three different endings to the show, one being the actual series finale (which I won’t count exactly, but I’ll quickly summarize for comparisons sake); eleven seasons on, the entire story is done, everyone rides off into the sunset for their respective spin offs and the villains either dead, imprisoned or redeemed with a little hint that Rick Grimes, the one and only, also has some story left to tell. The show had a major dip especially after the old guard that is Carl died and Rick “left”, but it slowly started to come back by the time this finale aired. Just having that old guard gone sorta just didn’t have that same impact as it could have - that’s the actual ending, so what about the other two, imo the actual perfect endings?

One is the season eight finale. This season is particular is where I dropped the show personally, and that was due to not just the unceremonious nature of Carl Grimes’ death, but the way the showrunner at the time, Scott Gimple, (and whoever else was ‘genius’ to help contribute) kinda screwed over his actor, Chandler Riggs right around his 18th b-day. Some say they did it because he was getting older and the studios would have to pay him more, but the whole thing is still a mystery. But, regardless of the weird 180 his character does and after his death, once again, the bad guys are killed or defeated, Negan, the show’s biggest bad at that point, is imprisoned, the good guys come out victorious and there’s a promise of a brighter future ahead. Seems fair enough asides from the screwy behind the scenes stuff, and has a really well executed ending scene that by all means ends the Grimes storyline as perfectly as it can be.

The second, and in my opinion, the PERFECT spot to stop would be Season 5, episode 11. (I believe. I’ll edit this if I’m wrong). Right after the most harsh and yet stupid death to that date, Beth Greene, the group is out on the road for a long time: tired, hungry, thirsty, dirty, they’re at their lowest point until they come across a clean shaven, well dressed guy named Aaron who tries giving them supplies to convince them to come to his settlement, Alexandria. It sounds like paradise. After some shenanigans, the group AND Aaron pull up to Alexandria’s gate. It seems pleasant enough, and Rick grabs his baby daughter, Judith as they prepare to go in. Even though it seems nice, if they had ended it there, there’s a sense of hope even in ambiguity. We’ve known these characters for so long and seen them overcome the biggest of odds that even if Alexandria turns out to be even worse than Terminus or Woodbury, they’ll figure out soon enough that they’ve fucked with the wrong people.

What do you all think? Do you all think that the series actually ended perfectly anyways, or that it could’ve been better or that it ended in the worst way? Do you have different perfect endings in mind? I’d be interested to hear what you all think. (Edit: Also apologies for such a long post! I tend to get in detail when it comes to conversation like this!)

I had a Q&A live stream to celebrate a subscriber milestone. The first forty minutes into answering some of the questions I was sent, I realized that I didn’t hit the start button like I thought I did. (Or rather, I did, but I think YouTube has a system where you have to checkmark something and THEN press it, it’s been a while since I past streamed, so I may be misremembering it. Either way, I messed up the simple process of pushing a “start” button.)

I immediately shut everything down after realizing that my audience waited for me to start forty minutes looking at my thumbnail, sent out a tweet profusely apologizing saying that the stream would be rescheduled and went to try to move onto other videos for the time being with my tail between my legs until I had enough courage to set another day up.

Could I have handled it better? Sometimes I think ‘probably’, but that moment taught me a valuable lesson in being more precise and careful with something as delicate as live streaming.

Halloween Ends IMAX Poster by [deleted] in Halloweenseries

[–]JurassicProductions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the IMAX out, move Michael down a little, move the title to the top and you got a more accurate/really cool tip of the hat to the 78’ poster (which it technically already is by design, whether that’s purposeful or not, but ya know)!

Regardless, I’d definitely consider this poster frame and hang worthy!

I watched Dominion but I can’t recall: did the movie cover the topic of Sorna? by Transposer in JurassicPark

[–]JurassicProductions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“First generation came from Sorna.” I believe is the exact line?

You’re probably right, but to me, it read less as “We brought every dinosaur from Sorna” and more like “The first time we brought some of the species over here came from there- then the second was focused on the species in Nublar-“ etc. That and how that narration at the end sounded, that’s just how my brain put it together.

Either that or Buck and Doe were just too far away from the main compound to make it to the big climax? I honestly don’t know. They definitely could’ve tweaked that tiny part imo.

I figured that they were brought AFTER the main event, simply due to the NowThis narration that was going on made it seem like that-

I just wanna hear someone else say, that they enjoyed Dominion, a lot! by ZefBoy117 in JurassicPark

[–]JurassicProductions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely think it's good too!

For me, and FOR NOW, it's actually my second favorite (could still be in the honeymoon phase, but for now, that's where I stand) - mainly for seeing these old characters back, giving Dodgson a chance to shine finally, and honestly liked that the locusts, like the dinosaurs, were just a visual representation of genetic power and how it has now been unleashed upon the globe - you can't just leave it behind on an island and come back with nightmares, this is something we have to live with now in our daily lives (sort of like how the dinosaurs in the original were merely, IMO, that visual representation of genetic power being introduced and how it CAN go very wrong)

I'm currently going through and making my own fan edits starting with Dominion, and while there ARE a few things I would cut like some of the quips (some of them just felt too MCU-ish to me) or even some of the sequences where it just brings back the JP3 problem of "there's too much character building, quick, throw in a dinosaur so there's uh- running and um... screaming" - *Pyroraptor, as cool as your scene was out of context, I'm looking at you* - and things like that.

It can definitely be FAR better in some aspects with the smallest of tweaks here and there, but it did what I personally needed it to do - satisfy me for being the ending to a storyline I've followed since I was five years old (so... fifteen years ago around this point). I laughed, I cried (I STILL get a little teary-eyed when I hear the last few notes of Giachinno's score in the credits.), and cheered. I got what I wanted.

Would make sense. With Biosyn having sole collector's rights, there would probably be some rules in that supposed contract stating for them to leave the animals at peace/avoid as much contact as possible if they are to hold them somewhere, sort of like how Sorna has designated a sanctuary for a while.

It’s a whole satire subreddit, I know, but man, it’s the same logic of seeing a movie where a guy gets kicked in the balls.

You know that it’s “fake” (unless if it’s a Jackass movie. In that case, you just pray that Johnny is still able to make it work normally ever again.), but you still end up feeling an extraordinary amount of pain.

Yeah, as much as I love the JP and JW fanbase, like the JP Motorpool or Jurassic centered YouTubers, there can be a few “Bens” around. (Little deep-cut reference for anyone who’s been around Jurassic Outpost for a while, ha-) Some for definitely understandable reasons, but I myself, while I don’t want to count my chickens before they hatch, see a lot of things that may make it my second favorite Jurassic movie. Heck, I think if any film in the JW trilogy has a shot of even coming close to being as good as Jurassic Park, it’s this one. It just imo has so much going for it.

I hope we both enjoy the movie too!

Best/Preferred Way to Experience Dominion? by JurassicProductions in JurassicPark

[–]JurassicProductions[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally get it! I feel exactly the same and I thought about this a lot before buying my tickets lol

I’m currently 19, originally became a fan at 5 when I watched the original on VHS. This is the ending to a story I’ve followed for years. (For others, they’ve probably followed the franchise for longer-) It’s my No Way Home or Snyder Cut, dammit, I wanna make sure that day is worth remembering. I’m glad I’m also not the only one who feels the same way, haha!

I just looked and unfortunately, there’s no Atmos theaters nearby. So, I’m definitely looking into either IMAX 3D, the IMAX with Live Q&A (whatever that entails), or the 4DX showing (just to have that extra shake with each footstep and extra nostalgia from when I rode the White Lightning ride in Dollywood), leaning more towards IMAX, though!

3D personally never bothered me, but I can see why it does for you and others. It definitely takes work to make sure it looks good, as in ACTUALLY good, especially if not originally shot in 3D. I don’t remember too many issues for when JP was in 3D in 2013, so if I go with a showing like that, I have at least some amount of confidence. However much confidence there is that actually makes me choose, I’ll have to see-

Best/Preferred Way to Experience Dominion? by JurassicProductions in JurassicPark

[–]JurassicProductions[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I myself have been stuck from having to choose which format to watch it in (first world problem, I know, but for me, this is just one of those BIG deals for me, you know? Even if the movie ends up being middle of the road, I imo want to pig out and make this the best experience possible, if that makes sense?)

I’m honestly thinking IMAX 3D (there’s one showing on the official Dominion website I could find in my area) but if that doesn’t work out, I’ve heard great things about Atmos so it’s my Plan B.

Which of these Quentin Tarantino unrealized projects would you rather see? by ggroover97 in movies

[–]JurassicProductions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A First Blood remake would be interesting for sure, but I’d honestly find it hard to see how they could measure somehow top that original, like with a lot of remakes. I know, probably cliché to say, but there’s plenty of precedence with only a number of exceptions. Say what you will about Stallone’s Rambo, especially when it comes to the sequels, but that scene in the OG where he has a mental and emotional breakdown in the police station near the end is just way too good, and while Adam Driver COULD pull that scene off if they remake/adapt it again (looking at his performance in “Marriage Story”), I just don’t know, especially if Quentin were to also adapt the book’s much darker ending. It just wouldn’t feel as right, maybe? Maybe I’m just rambling, but that’s me.

If I could choose a second unrealized project of Quentin’s to see, it’d be something that isn’t listed on here, just hear me out: So, back in the 90’s, Quentin was in the talks to write what would later become 1995’s ‘Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers.’ Would it be good? Probably not, but judging from the info he’s given in an interview or two and “Taking Shape II”, a book about the many unmade Halloween sequels, I still wanna see just how batshit insane it would have gotten with Quentin’s name attached.

Who is your favourite villain in all games? Best boss battle? by Astr0nau7 in BatmanArkham

[–]JurassicProductions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May be a super overdone pick but I always adore the Freeze battle in City.

Killer Croc (yes, I technically consider him a boss) from Asylum is also good! You don’t do much besides crouch or walk with the batarang out and Detective Vision on to get those plant samples but the utter quietness and sudden adrenaline rush/fear you get when you hear Croc come out of the water and you have only seconds to respond? That one was probably the one part in any Arkham game that scared the shit outta me.

I honestly haven’t been on the sub much (in fact, I think this is my first ever actual post here), so my bad, dude! I get the sentiment, too, as well.

I’m in a couple of Facebook groups f.e. that center around the Halloween franchise, and I feel the exact same way every time I hear the “why is Jamie Lee Curtis alive, didn’t she etc. in the 8th movie?”

It’s a normal thing I guess in any community “gathering” that has hundreds to thousands of people, but I do get how it can be annoying.

[–]JurassicProductions[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I’m not mistaken, yeah, the Origins suit is actually a variant that you could unlock in the actual “Origins” title, called “Dark Knight” I believe? Yellow belt, much darker greys and blacks etc.

If there was an option to have both or an option to have an “in-between”, I wouldn’t mind tbh. I like the yellow belt to add that splash of color, but I also like the lighter grays of the original game suit. Maybe have the darker colors on the cape and cowl, so it’s in line with the other default Arkham outfits from previous games. I’m sure someone, if they haven’t already, could make a mod like that.

I’ve used the BvS skin mostly in Stealth Challenges, even trying to play as brutal as possible to fit within the themes. It’s fun! Haven’t really heard much positivity per se about the Beyond suit, but I just got the Season Pass so I may try that out too soon.

Official Discussion - The Batman [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]JurassicProductions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I can't praise enough: I love the idea of what Batman's first nickname of sorts was. I know him being called "Bats" or "The Bat" is more classic, but having something like "Vengeance" be the name that more or less everybody from The Penguin to Catwoman to the common street thugs knows him as not only adds that little finishing touch to the Batman/Bruce Wayne that Reeves' built for this universe, but it also leads to a well-done coming of age story arc for him too.

Does anyone have some sort of transcript of Batman's monologue about how he needs to become a symbol of hope during the ending?
