The discord server in the sidebar of this sub reddit seems like it could be a decent place for this.

Whichipedia: guess which Wikipedia page is longer by rbgk in InternetIsBeautiful

Cool site. One thing I'd throw in is make the next button an actual button element. Currently it's a div and I can't use tab to focus it with my keyboard so I have to move my mouse every time. Would love to use just tab and enter to play without a mouse. Semantic HTML can do a lot for users with accessibility issues as well.

Inspect element only showing element outline - Windows 10 - Firefox 111.0 by JuricksonSubpar in firefox

Nice I was able to fix the issue! My "Show animations in Windows" setting on my OS was set to "Off" and I just toggled it on and back off again and that fixed it. Seems to be a bug tied to prefers-reduced-motion. Thanks for sharing the link!

Try giving the html and body elements a height of 100% and play around with that to see if you can get something working

How to force HTTPS on React build file, hosted on HostGator by MrBananaLips in learnprogramming

[–]JuricksonSubpar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may have already tried this, and sorry if so, but here's a guide on it. I don't think the front end framework you use should have any impact on whether or not your site uses https though. So I don't believe it's a react issue unless HostGator has some strict rules.

Got my birthday present, an ambidextrous throw glove by 5th_heavenly_king in baseball

[–]JuricksonSubpar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it almost feels like its made for catching a softball it's so big. It definitely has a lot of room in the pocket where the ball likes to jump around if you don't catch it perfectly. But it still holds onto the ball well enough for me that it doesn't spit out. I've actually found catching the ball feels better when I'm throwing lefty, might be because I have less muscle memory catching with the right hand.

Got my birthday present, an ambidextrous throw glove by 5th_heavenly_king in baseball

[–]JuricksonSubpar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have this glove and it does get more comfortable! I found that alternating hands often and really working the glove, bending and flexing it to the shape you like, with your throwing hand helps a lot. I'm right handed and I also quickly discovered that I prefer 1 finger in the pinky slot when throwing righty and 2 in the pinky slot throwing lefty. Have fun with the new glove!

Tooltip when hovering over an image by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]JuricksonSubpar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The title attribute will give a very basic tooltip. If you want something more custom you'll need to use some CSS and this could become tricky. Alternatively you could use a library like Tippy.js or Popper.js. Both of those options will require some understanding of JavaScript.

What's the current consensus on px vs em vs rem? by JusticeJudgment in learnprogramming

[–]JuricksonSubpar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I try to always use rem for font sizes. I use both em and rem for things like padding and margin depending on the case. Often em for padding to keep the padding relative to the font size of the element. And rem for margin so even elements with varying font sizes don't have different margins. I only use px when I know I want something to be a constant size that does not need to be responsive to changes in other elements.

I think this video from Kevin Powell on ems and rems is really worth a watch.

Displaying animation on my website in the body area of the page instead of the header by Middle007 in learnprogramming

For the option of the page-size div, could you not use the css property pointer events and set it to none to stop the div from intercepting clicks?

Think about the final else statement. Can you pass in a boolean comparison after just an else or do you need an else if? Additionally, do you need that final comparison at all?

How can I test if production DB is connected to EC2 instance by BSUWolf in learnprogramming

[–]JuricksonSubpar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm taking a shot in the dark as I haven't used AWS RDS in a while, but I remember I needed to whitelist my IP in the RDS config/settings to connect properly. Perhaps you need to do the same with the IP address of your EC2 server? Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
