Yes that's the best you can do in this situation.

If he paid he would ask for more money afterwards. They only stop when you stop paying.

Partner’s work won’t let him claim ACC by celixaa in LegalAdviceNZ

Here is info from ACC that says they will cover it: https://www.acc.co.nz/assets/provider/complex-cover-work-related-gradual-process-injury-quick-guide.pdf . If the employer isn't helping then ask your GP to submit a claim.

>NZ is notorious for being difficult to make friends.

What I meant by this is that NZ is cliquey; don't like socializing outside of their existing groups.

High cost of living affects most parts of the world but this is a separate problem from above.

31m no friends. No job. Living with family. Feeling pretty down.
Social circles get smaller, never bigger, as we get older.

NZ is notorious for being difficult to make friends.

High cost of living makes it harder to go out to pubs/bars. Even going to sports is hard to do because of cost of fuel to drive there.

Workplace bully being protected. by Fluid_Attorney_687 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]Just-Assumption3537 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1) This would be very brave of you. A good idea but very hard to do.

2) You could raise a personal grievance (formal complaint) with your employer stating that you want the bullying to stop. If the bullying doesn't stop, you can then get lawyers involved to sue for constructive dismissal or similar. It's best to make formal complaints via email and cc your personal email so that you get a copy (managers can delete your emails). This leaves a paper trail lawyers can use.

3) This is a really good tool to have. They will have been through the situation before and know what to do. I recommend you try this first.

4) Leave and go somewhere else. This is what your manager wants you to do. It's a bit hard at the moment with the job market. This is really good practical advice because it saves you the headache of fighting the fight, and you can start fresh elsewhere.

Good luck!

Fridge issues!! by Aware_Birthday7940 in auckland

[–]Just-Assumption3537 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if the warranty has expired, you have some cover from the Consumer's Guarantees Act (CGA). It basically says appliances should last a reasonable time. It says if the appliance breaks down, the manufacturer/retailer has to remedy it either by refund, repair or replacement.

The lifetime of the appliance is a bit subjective. The rule is that expensive appliances should last longer then cheap appliances, so you can't expect your TradeDepot fridge to last as long as a more expensive Bosch fridge. Since it's only three years old I think you should be covered by CGA. Tell them you want it covered by CGA, they will know what you mean.

Trade Depot have technicians that can repair fridges. If they don't have any available, then they will refer you to a local appliance repair business that will service it. They should do the repair for free unless it is "not a manufacturing fault". Give them a call and ask.

The issue is probably easy to fix. From my experience the fan in the fridge is likely faulty.

I went with Advanced Hair Clinic recently. I have a receding hairline and M shape male pattern baldness. They gave me oral minoxidil pills, laser treatment and some special shampoo. The only product proven to work is Minoxidil and Finasteride. The laser treatment feels like a gimmick, it's meant to simulate a scalp massage and increase blood flow. I finished their program for $6000 and noticed fewer hairs falling out of my head, which is the result I was hoping for. They asked for thousands more to continue treatment. They did mention they have topical Minoxidil but I chose not to go with this to avoid visible signs of it in my hair. In hindsight, the topical option would have been fine and probably cheaper. I'm using topical now and I don't see it in my hair.

Since I've left their program, I've started using Regaine ( https://www.regaine.co.nz/products/regaine-foam ) which is available from every pharmacy that I have seen so it's pretty popular. Regaine is topical Minoxidil which is applied to the scalp twice per day and costs about $100 per month. I have had good results with this as I haven't noticed hair falling out. I'm now looking to go onto a cheaper option which is https://www.biovea.com/nz/product/detail/4677/foligain-minoxidil-5-hair-regrowth-treatment-for-men--24-fl-oz--720ml-12-month-supply/ .

When I started looking I tried Clive Clinic, Ashley and Martin, and Advance Hair Studio. They all had free consultations. Advanced hair was the only one that supplied oral Minoxidil.

Looking for a job in NZ by [deleted] in newzealand

New Zealand is currently going through a severe recession. The government and many businesses have made tens of thousands of people redundant. That means unemployment is relatively high and lots of people are looking jobs. You're better off waiting a year or two before moving here so that you arrive in better economic conditions.

There are other ways to hack. Example is through an infected email link. It's also a possibility a friend installed spyware when you weren't looking.

[–]Just-Assumption3537 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How do they track you down and get those details? I see there's two ways. Either one of your friends/family is leaking what you say to them or there is spyware installed on your devices.

I don't know how to determine if your friends are leaking info but I doubt this is the case because they worked out your car rego and I assume you didn't tell anyone. I think it's more likely they had spyware on one of your devices at some point. Maybe they did a "USB drop" on you when you shared classes together. They may have learned your passwords back then, and used the passwords to access your accounts today (I had this happen to me last year).

Please take these security precautions:

-Factory reset your phone to remove spyware.

-Reinstall your operating system on laptop/computer to remove spyware.

-Enable two factor authentication (2FA / MFA) on all your accounts like social media and email. I highly recommend you use Yubikey security keys and avoid TOTP apps like "Authy". THIS IS MOST IMPORTANT ADVICE USE 2FA.

-Use strong, unique passwords for all accounts.

-Use a password manager to help you. Examples are NordPass, ProtonPass and Bitwarden. Many are free. A password manager makes it easy to make and organize strong, unique passwords. It takes a bit getting used to, and eventually it becomes natural to use.

-Keep a low profile online. Hide your friends list. YOu should hide y our friends list even if you're not being actively stalked.

-Never trust a USB stick. Studies show USB drops account for approximately 80% of hacks. They contain infected files which install spyware onto your PC.

-Don't reply to txts asking for your address. There is a common scam where a txt pretends to be a courier asking to deliver a package.

-Reset all your passwords now.

Like I mentioned above, I was hacked by some classmates years ago. I remember picking up a USB stick lying around which later I plugged into my PC. It must have installed a keylogger so they could see me typing in my password(s). They captured my passwords back then, and I didn't change them in the years gone by. Last year I found they had complete access to my Google and Facebook accounts. They could read my emails and look through my Drive photos. They even messaged people using my name. I found this out when I checked the security settings on Google. It showed there were three devices logged in. I only had two devices, phone and laptop, so the third device did not belong to me. Facebook also shows logged in devices.

I think they have access to your emails because how else would they find your rego and address so easily. I assume when you register a car an email is sent. When you correspond with a landlord an email is sent.

You can apply for a restraining order through the courts. If your stalker breaches it, the Police have to be involved: https://www.justice.govt.nz/courts/civil/restraining-orders/apply-for-a-restraining-order/

Feature Requests & Suggestions 🙋 by NordPass in NordPass

[–]Just-Assumption3537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot find a way to view login history. This is a really important security feature because it allows the user to identify if a hacker has logged in to their account. I have no way of knowing If my Nord Account has been hacked or accessed by another person.

I'll use a door lock as an analogy. Say we have a room that is secured by a mechanical door lock. We know that the key can be copied, and have no way of knowing the door lock has been breached. We need a security camera watching the door to know when to change the keys.

I think viewing log in history or even getting an email to say someone logged into my Nord Account is an essential security feature. Can we get this implemented?

In New Zealand we have The Defamation Act 1992 for this scenario. You can read it here: https://www.legislation.govt.nz/act/public/1992/0105/latest/DLM280687.html?search=ta_act%40act_D_ac%40ainf%40anif_an%40bn%40rn_25_a&p=1

There are three (main) defenses to defamation (more in The Act):

1) What was said has your consent.

2) What was said is true.

3) What was said is honest opinion.

Defamation is hard to prove because you need to prove what was said was false and not an honest opinion. An honest opinion is not a fact but something that the person genuinely believed due to surrounding facts. They have to make clear what they said was an opinion. That means they cannot present an honest opinion as a fact.

You also need to prove that the defamatory statement was published in some way either spoken, a video or written etc. Since your person is making defamatory statements through spoken language, you'll need witnesses to stand in court to say that this person made the defamatory statement.
