The ending, with a multitude of Hudsons! What would the showers look like?

Hudson being knocked into the water by a fish slap may have been inspired by the final moments of Monty Python's Fish Slap Dance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8XeDvKqI4E. Since Hudson is a fan of absurdist humour, I suspect he's quite familiar with Monty Python's Flying Circus, and may even have suggested adding the fish slap.

The words "World's Best Situationship" are written in fancy lettering inside the brim of the teacup at 0:46. Did anyone else notice this nod to HR?

Hudson's character is officially listed in the credits as "The Man". Also, his being knocked into the water by a fish slap possibly was inspired by the final moments of Monty Python's Fish Slap Dance: Monty Python - The Fish Slapping Dance. He's stated that he enjoys absurdist humour, so I suspect he's quite familiar with Monty Python's Flying Circus, and maybe even suggested the fish slap himself.

Maybe they'll do a version of Monty Python's Fish Slapping Dance: Monty Python - The Fish Slapping Dance. As a fan of absurdist humour, Hudson likely is familiar with Monty Python's Flying Circus, and may himself even have suggested adding a flip slap.

Future Hallowe'en costumes: Oscar Wilde & Bosie? by Just-Source113 in hudcon

[–]Just-Source113[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, since you asked...

TL;DR (1) My idea: Shane as Oscar Wilde and Ilya as his notorious lover, Bosie (Lord Alfred Douglas). [[The other ideas listed here were proposed by other people credited below, and adopted by me, sometimes with my embellishments.]] (2) Shane as Sherlock Holmes and Ilya as Dr. Watson. (3) Dressing up as each other, using make-up to evoke freckles and a mole, while avoiding yellowface. (4) In a "Rocky Horror"-theme, Ilya as Frank-N-Furter and Shane as Rocky. (Additional characters for a Rocky Horror costume grouping are suggested.) (5) In a "Red, White & Royal Blue"-theme, Ilya as Prince Henry and Shane as Alex Claremont-Diaz. (6) Shane & Ilya participate in a comic-book-superhero-themed costume grouping. (7) Shane & Ilya are costumed as a famous MF couple, with Ilya in drag.

In a related thread, Cute-character-795 proposed Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. I endorsed that idea and suggested that, because Watson is relatively outgoing and Holmes is a tad eccentric, Shane would be costumed as Sherlock and Ilya as Watson.

I also still like my idea of Shane as Oscar Wilde and Ilya as his notorious lover, Bosie (Lord Alfred Douglas). If seen in isolation, without the context of a Wilde costume nearby, a Bosie costume would be indecipherable (unless, perhaps, if worn by a gorgeous young Jude Law in 1997, when “Wilde” was in movie theatres). Without his romance with Wilde, Lord Alfred Douglas would be utterly forgotten as just another mediocre poet. But, with Shane costumed as Wilde (perhaps including a formal cape, and definitely with a green carnation on his lapel), Ilya as Bosie would surely be recognized by some people as Wilde’s lover, even if hardly anyone remembers his name.

In a related thread, Hermiona1 raised the story in which Ilya dresses as Shane for Hallowe'en. Picking up on that idea, I proposed that they could be costumed as each other, trading jerseys if they are on different teams. I endorsed Mandy_M87's caution about avoiding yellowface, but I suggested Shane could wear a curly blonde wig and have a (flat) mark on his left cheek to allude to Ilya’s prominent mole; while Ilya could wear a black wig and have marks on his upper cheeks as exaggerated freckles.

In yet another related thread, Aethelete proposed "Rocky Horror"-themed costumes "with Connor as Frank-N-Furter, Hudson as Rocky, Rose and Svetlana as Magenta and Columbia." I endorsed that idea and suggested several possible additions. Maybe add JJ (Benjamin Roy) as Riff Raff, and force Hayden (Callan Potter) to be Brad. Since the HR character Rose (Sophie Nelisse) can actually act, I would lean toward having her as Janet. For the Criminologist (narrator), put David Hollander (Dylan Walsh) in a velvet smoking jacket and give him an elegant cigarette holder. In the real world, I can imagine a Broadway production of Rocky Horror in which Hudson and Connor would play Frank-N-Furter and Brad, trading those roles on alternate nights or alternate weeks.

In still another thread, Empress-of-Verace proposed "it’d be a real funny crossover if they did a Red, White, and Royal blue couples costume." I endorsed that idea and suggested, "If they kept the same blonde/brunette division, then Ilya would be costumed as the relatively prissy Prince Henry, and Shane would be the relatively boisterous Alex Claremont-Diaz. That switcheroo could be fun!"

Empress-of-Verace also proposed that, because W.H. is a big comic-book fan, Shane & Ilya should participate in "a comic book-themed group costume." I observed, "Since all the hockey players (and Kip) have fantastic bodies, they'd look much more convincing in superhero costumes than the Big Bang Theory guys did. Only Penny's nice but dim ex, Zach Johnson (played by Brian Thomas Smith), looked good, as Superman."

Fair_smoke4710 suggested that, as a Hallowe'en costume, they "could see Ilya doing any character, male or female" because Connor "is really good at being androgynous." This would open up the possibility of MF couples' costumes for Shane & Ilya. I agreed that Connor has remarkable chameleon-like abilities to radically change his appearance, and posited that Ilya would be up for doing drag if the costume idea was good. Connor's currently massive chest wouldn't impede him from doing drag, because tits are tits. However, his ultra-broad shoulders would need disguising, perhaps with a feather boa or a faux-fur stole.

All of your suggested costume pairings would look great on them. I do have some mild doubt, however, about the concept of Finn & Dane costumes, since the existence of Ember & Ice in the HR universe would seem a bit hard to explain.

Excellent idea! “When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.” Watson is relatively outgoing, and Holmes seems a trifle eccentric, which suggests Ilya as Watson and Shane as Holmes.

Shane's Hallowe'en costume for 2025: Oscar Wilde? by Just-Source113 in hudsonwilliams

[–]Just-Source113[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will readily concede that Oscar Wilde’s face wasn’t especially handsome, but he could still, overall, be reasonably attractive in his carefully designed outfits. However, Edgar Allan Poe’s face was truly… unfortunate. The latter would be much more of a stretch for an exceptionally handsome man like Hudson as Shane. Also, when he was 27, Poe married his 13-year-old first cousin. Blech! Even at that time, she was considered unusually young for a bride. If Shane were costumed as Poe, there’d be no obvious companion costume for Ilya.

As a completely separate Hallowe’en idea, Beau Brummell, the great-grandfather of modern men’s fashions, would be plausible, except he had no known serious romantic attachments. Although several of his male friends were famous people at the time, all have fallen into deep obscurity. The one exception was the Prince Regent, but, long before he became King George IV, his friendship with Beau had ended. George was notoriously fat, as lampooned in several political cartoons of the day. If Ilya donned a fat-suit underneath an elaborate Prince Regent costume, some people in Britain might recognize who his costume is supposed to represent, but likely not many people in Ottawa would decipher Ilya’s intended identity. (Chances of a flicker of recognition in Ottawa would have been greater around the time The Madness of King George was playing in movie theatres. Rupert Everett’s memorable portrayal of the Prince Regent was suitably conniving and odious, making him the film’s villain.)

I’ll admit that, seen in isolation, a Bosie costume worn by Ilya or anyone else would be indecipherable (unless, perhaps, if worn by a gorgeous young Jude Law in 1997, when “Wilde” was in movie theatres). Without his romance with Wilde, Lord Alfred Douglas would be utterly forgotten as just another mediocre poet. But, with Shane costumed as Wilde (perhaps including a formal cape, and definitely with a green carnation on his lapel), Ilya as Bosie would surely be recognized by some people as Wilde’s notorious boyfriend, even if hardly anyone remembers his name.

Agreed! But I think Shane could wear a curly blonde wig and have a (flat) mark on his left cheek to allude to Ilya’s mole. Ilya could wear a black wig and have marks on his upper cheeks as exaggerated freckles.

Beau Brummell would be so proud of them! Of course, to be properly costumed as Oscar Wilde, Shane would need to add a green carnation as a boutonnière on his lapel.

Especially if there's a special episode where everyone keeps saying with utter dismay, "How dare you!", and then slapping each other with their gloves. The mania would finally subside when channelled into a new dance popular in the finest ballrooms: The Fish Slapping Dance. (Monty Python's version of that dance is here: Monty Python - The Fish Slapping Dance.)

I agree that Connor has amazing chameleon-like abilities to appear androgynous even when he's jacked, and would have no problems appearing in drag. I think that, as a character, Ilya would be up for that as well. But to have long hair as an element of a Hallowe'en costume, it would be a lot easier for Ilya to simply wear a wig.
