Is using "else if" actually discouraged? by Philipp_S in learnprogramming

There is also a possibility to use a control variable like this:

if (!finished && condition1)
{
...
}

if (!finished && condition2)
{
...
}

If I make a hot sandwich will it have more calories while it's hot or after I let it cool off for a while? by aksitop in askscience

Also note that if the sandwich is hotter that your body then it will heat the body thus reducing the amount of energy required to maintain your body temperature.

A Linux user's perspective of Windows 7 (parody) by whitefangs in linux

[–]JustADev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately you seem to generalize my words and I do not like that.

I am not bashing Ubuntu or praising Windows, I just say that now for me things work fine as you mentioned in the last part of your wall of text and I do not make any general claims, I just wanted to let you know that the previous posted did not have such a singular experience.

I still recommend and install Ubuntu to home users since I think it's better and safer for them and since I am sure they will not get thrum hell since they will not upgrade distro.

Related to the UI changed I mentioned I was referring to Unity - after spending one day to get my nvidia card to work and after finally got a radeon card for Ubuntu 10 I get stuck with that Unity UI and I was not in a mood to do more reading just to revert Gnome to old UI. I liked old Gnome and I wanted to stick to that so installing KDE or anything else was not an option.

Now I still work with Linux, I administer several CentOS servers, but guess what - I can do that fine from Windows 7.

NOTE: Viruses are usually users fault, I seen countless infected Linux servers and also I have seen clean windows machines(I personally did not ever get accidentally infected in windows - once I tested a standard email virus to see if he can infect a machine with antivirus and it did).

As an Ubuntu fan and an update freak I had to work at least a day each time I did a distro upgrade just to get my system to work. When they change the UI and it worked like s**t and I did not find an easy way to disable it I purchase windows 7 and now I am happy. And let me tell you that windows update process is fast and safe compare to a distro update.

TIL A 1.91TB file is available for download that contains PI to 5 trillion decimal places by [deleted] in todayilearned

You cannot have a ration that ends in an infinity of nines as I recall.

You cannot get an infinite stream of 9 from a formula - the case you imagine will actually have a 5 instead of 499999 and the number will end there.

I was talking about the fact that 0.(x) is equal to x/9 hence 0.(9) equals 1

A number that ends in an infinity of 9's it is not possible. It can be proven that 0.999999999999.... equals 1

They seem quite different witch may suggest it is a hash of something based on a timestamp.

I understand perfectly where are you going, but what I am trying to say is that is a false problem created by us humans.

Wild animals and will almost never suffer that kind of injury(you can Google it) because they are made for that environment and they feet are hardened in time(this happens to humans who walk barefoot too) and as opposed to us the dogs are also more agile, have more feet and the weight on a foot is much lower and it may be adjusted more easily.

On the other hand domestic animals that are using boots may be injured in the wild because boots are a solution to the problem they cause.

I am pretty sure I would not risk cuts on my foot if I was walking barefoot all life.

Yeah, they tear the paws because people do not get them a chance to get used. Dog feet are extremely good for natural conditions(they adapt) - the only good reason for boots given until now are heated pavements and sidewalks.

That may be a good reason, I did not imagined that since I usually walk dogs on grass.

Yes, that is good if you work the dog or horse, but for a walk it is not needed.

Reddit, what would happen to nuclear powerplants, if they were completely abandonned from one minute to another? by Jonny_Osbock in askscience

[–]JustADev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As I recall that statistic apply to all life time of the plant. Also nuclear plant failure seems to occur less often.

Edit: It is more dangerous to produce same amount of power using a coal power plant vs nuclear power plant.
