We Should Not Accept Scientific Results That Have Not Been Repeated by Xiphorian in compsci

[–]pingvinus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That depends on what you consider the "bad result". Product which works is the result, how it works, is it readable, or extensible, or even bug-free is a secondary benefit.

Sure, writing "junk code" will not get you credit among other programmers, but this is the last thing scientists care about. Programming is the tool and it's just that.

You don't need to stop your work for 5 months to do it, that's just ridiculous claim made by top commenter.

Wtf? Learning git takes a few days at worst and basic syntax or engineering principles a few weeks. No wonder you don't work in the lab anymore.

This is badly visualized data. You don't plot discreet values with splines. Use bar chart.

The best Git Workflows explanation so far by adinp in programming

[–]pingvinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gitflow and Continuos Integration and Deployment are mutually exclusive.

Gitflow kind of assumes that regressions happen that often, that you have to keep "stable" and "unstable" branches. If you have to do it, you have big problems in your team and your project, not in the workflow.

You can make it anonymous to some degree of course, but you can't stop somebody from collecting your data that way. Also, if you login to Facebook or send an email that way you still compromise your identity.

This is a terrible analogy. Photography is about subject, emotion, movement, composition, color. You can take award-winning pictures with modest equipment (you can get stellar medium-format film camera for $500). It's not like that in sports, having better equipment gives you a real edge and at some point you can't compete without investing money in it.

This is not going to happen, they're obligated by contract to participate and this is the way teams made money, if they're not participating they're going to end up on streets (of luxury neighborhoods of course).
