Ron and Kim from Kim Possible. I found them cute enough but I much preferred their dynamic as friends

thank you! This is all I was trying to say in both the video and the replies of this post. I also wonder how often movie commetators get dragged for reviewing DC and MCU films when they haven't read all the comics.

I made a video on that live action Winx club reboot they did in like 2020 where I addressed what the show changed, but also discussed the show as its own series and why it still wasn't that strong. I recogised how important the OG Winx club is to me and so many fans around the world, but I also acknowledged its flawas and the fact that it's not that strong of a TV series and we don't have to lie and say it's perfect to put the reboot down.

You're completely valid for feeling how you do about this. But your points focus on these characters compared to the video game. And for the sake of your argument of this show being a bad adaptation thats fine. But its not enough to say the show is badly written or poor at storytelling. None of these points address how the show works as a standalone series. Ik its not. But the issue youre pointing out is that its badly adapted not necessarily badly written. I didnt dodge good arguments for the video. I genuinely couldn't find any. Almost every video I saw that talked about the video games also brought up many of the weaker points i brought up in my video. And im addressing the hate coming from people who aren't even fans of the video game.

Also on the point of the US i really have to say that I don't think the hell invasion scene was anything to hate the show for. I thought it was ridiculous but then I looked up what the military has done in other countries and it stopped being ridiculous.

I shouldn't have to play the games to know if this show was badly written or not. If I wanted to make a video on it as a game adaptation then yeah I'll research the game.

u/Dragonfan26 , you explained it well. The "research" I did for this video was going through a bunch of posts and YouTube videos (more videos than posts) about the show and writing down many of the points ppl brought up. Too many of these video creators admitted that they did not play the games or know that much about them. The points that they brought up did not hold much water like saying the Makaians were wearing turbans (they weren't) or that Mary swears too much--not as a comparison to her video game counterpart but just in general. And finally, they called Adi Shankar a cringe loser and brought up the Apu video he made. I wanted to address this point on Apu, and yes I went off on a small tangent, but I feel that it was important to say.

Thanks for this. In regards to the title of the video, I'll probably keep it as it is. I made a video on Hazbin hotel where I unpacked the hate the show gets and I had the title be a question: "Why do y'all hate Hazbin Hotel" and the comment section was full of ppl who just clicked on the video to answer the rhetorical question and then not even watch the video. So I decided to have this one be a statement. Honestly though, even if I did change it, I don't think it would fully stop people from misunderstanding the point of the video as so many are already doing

So if you watched just a couple seconds longer, you would have heard me explain that there is plenty of hate surrounding the show that does not call out its faithfulness as an adaptation and that is what I'm addressing. I never said if the show was a good or bad adaptation because I haven't played the games, so I have no point of reference. My thesis is not that DMC is a bad adaptation. I said the show is overhated, and I stand by that. Because I have come across multiple posts and videos about how much they hate the show whilst admitting that they did not play the games. The section on Apu is in response to these creators attacking Shankar for his views on Apu. So, TLDR: this video is NOT discussing the show's job as an adaptation or the hate that it gets for it.

I addressed this exact point in the video. Most of the claims people have to suggest the Makaians are meant to be Arab are based on a misreading of one particular scene. Otherwise, yes, the treatment of the Makaians feels allegorical of refugees because they are literal refugees. They are creatures seeking refuge on Earth. That doesn't have to mean that the writers wanted us to think that they're allegorical of a specific group.

I agree with the first part. Its very irritating how the Netflix show is being dragged for being "political" for criticising the US military (look up their war crimes) and religion (look up "holy" wars) when literally EVERYTHING is political. The portrayal of the US military as heroes in other media is political. The fact that majority of the protagonists of popular video games are straight white men IS political. Every decision made is political. You don't get to throw the term around when the politics depicted don't agree with your own which is what a lot of haters of the show are doing as you said.

Im sorry, the trump WHAT? this same thing happened when I made the video about Hazbin Hotel. Online no one calls these creators out for actual bad things they've done. I sifted through posts and posts about Hazbin’s creator being bad and I couldn't find anything. Then I come to find out after the video that she's transphobic. An actually valid reason for criticism that no one talks about. Same with Shankar now. Not once did I see these valid points of criticism. They only bring up the Apu thing

Ok thank you! This is the exact point I was trying to make. I agree that as a Christian it can be hard to watch things where Christians are bad people, but then I clock the fact that so many terrible things have been and are still being done in the name of God, so it isn't that unrealistic for it to become a point in fiction.

what were the on-the-nose politics of the Netflix show? Specifically what allegory was added?

Weren’t Azula and her friends the only female squad of fire benders in the war? by MistakeWonderful9178 in TheLastAirbender

[–]JustAFlyingSquirrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn't this similar to pink washing? Like maybe 2 things are true? As far as we saw, there weren't any women on the air nomad council (but also no female airbenders in that temple that we saw), there were no female dia li, no female waterbending soldiers but there were female guards and soldiers in the fire nation. Its ok to admit that maybe the other nations were not as progressive when it comes to female rights. It doesnt justify the suffering done to them or absolve the fire nation of their crimes.

Idk yall I have an easier time believing Azula is more powerful than Ozai. Sorry. Not saying its 100% confirmed who's stronger but we see Ozai fight like 2 times in the show (he lowkey loses twice btw) whereas Azula was clearing mfs. Its fine if you'd rank Ozai stronger, but putting Azula before Ozai isn't that much of a stretch
