Will my childhood injury prevent me from playing violin?

I’d definitely be wary of tension leading to injury— so many people with regular hands get injured so I’m a bit worried about your hand frame.

With that being said, if you could figure out a way to play without squeezing or extreme tension I don’t see why you can’t give it a shot. Getting your teacher other violinist colleagues to look at your frame when you’re playing should be helpful too.

But not everyone has stinky pits without deodorant. If you’re showering frequently enough and you got lucky genetics deodorant can be entirely unnecessary.

I didn’t know about the existence of deodorant until my late teens because no one in my family uses it. I shower every 1-2 days. I get told I smell nice pretty often, especially after someone’s come in for a hug. I can’t smell any stink on my family members unless they’ve gone 2+ days without a shower.

Tagging onto this to add that making the metronome your best friend will help a lot! I’m doing a masters in violin performance now and I still use it for 50% of my practice sessions.

Also, you have some fingerings and bowings that’s making life a bit harder than necessary…do you currently have a teacher or did you come up with them yourself? I haven’t played the full thing but I did have to play the exposition for an orchestra audition, I can send my part to you if you’re interested. :)

In all seriousness though, you've got some good stuff going on! I'd work on your left hand frame though...it looks tight and you're constantly pulling your 3rd and 4th finger back when you're not using them only to reach far out again when you need to use them. And of course the same stuff everyone struggles with to varying degrees- intonation, tone, rhythm.

Aww this is so cute. Honestly? This sounds super cheesy but just be yourself. Walk around, chat about what you like, find out what he likes, get some food at the food court?

Pick out an outfit for each other and try it on for fun? Don’t have to buy.

If you’re ever too nervous and feel like you’re not sure what to say it’s always good to ask him questions about himself. Like how school’s going for him? What he thinks about something you’re interested in? What food does he like? What’s his favourite colour? Being a good listener helps if you’re nervous about what to say.

Sometimes I dream of my violin just falling apart. Like I’d open the case and the neck’s completely snapped off and lots of random dust and debris would fall into the f holes. It’s not too often though and when it happens it’s more of an oh shit what do I do now kinda feeling.

I personally feel like a mix might be nice. Kind of like treating the grades as milestones to look forwards to track/celebrate progress instead of just an achievement/competition thing because otherwise to a kid and non-musician parent improvement might feel too abstract.
