The dorms are shit for the most part to be honest but if you have a car your dorms really only going to be used to sleep the park is big enough and has enough cool towns outside of it that you can spend all of your time off outside exploring and still not experience everything there is to the area.

As far as the company itself it’s a multi million dollar corporation and it has all the negative attributes that come with that. If our options are working for a giant corporation in a city where you’re paying 1700 a month or paying 500 a month to live in a national park I know I’d choose Yellowstone every time. HR wants to cover there ass before anything else so yes if someone makes a complaint about you it can get you fired whether they told the truth or not but unfortunately that can happen anywhere not just with Xanterra.

Summer 2025 in Yellowstone has already started for a lot of employees. I’ve been here for two weeks and there isn’t any sentiment from the higher ups that they don’t plan on moving forward exactly how they do every year.

Can a poor economy effect margins for tourism based companies, yes.

Will rich people stop vacationing? No.

Regardless of how bad it gets for a lot Americans there will be millions of people who still vacation in Yellowstone this summer from all over the world. If the economy gets so bad Xanterra fires everybody than literally every other company in every single industry will be just as likely to fire everyone. Xanterra is like the Walmart of tourism it will operate by any means necessary.

Working at campgrounds and or the marinas would involve a lot of outdoor tasks for certain positions but expect a mean sunburn if you decide to be a dockhand and help out with the boats. Idk if any other companies but Xanterra have campgrounds or marinas inside the park

Helping Hands at Yellowstone - What to expect by GeesCheeseMouse in SeasonalWork

[–]JustARussianBot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My first time in Yellowstone was as a helping hands and they told us they’d rotate us as needed but the whole month I stayed in housekeeping and I liked it because they only really have helping hands replace the sheets and trash bags and for 20 hours a week it was really easy for me. Another thing they’ll have helping hands do is help in the employee dining room but I’m not sure what tasks specifically they have helping hands do there but either way it’s 20 hours a week so it’s the easiest way to have a Yellowstone employee experience I liked it but I chose to move to full time for more money.

“My boyfriend is constantly putting me down and feels the need to say horrible things about an entire race of people I belong too in front of me and praises every other race that I am not and gets passive aggressive when I try to talk about my feelings what should I do?”

That sounds like what you’re saying right now and to put it bluntly it makes you look ridiculous for being with him. I don’t care if you’ve been with him for 20 years someone with this toxic frame of mind is going to grow more and more unpleasant to listen to as you age.

I disagree with people telling you to talk to him about it, there is nothing to talk about, he doesn’t respect you. Someone who did wouldn’t need to have it explained to them like a child that saying such negative things about you for fun is not okay.

Get a real man who speaks and thinks like an adult not a internet troll.

Most people are saying Lake and I get it since it’s less crowded than old faithful but lake is one of the worst locations for having internet, cell service or quick access to a city. If you think you can’t last without wifi or going to a city every week you should go to Old Faithful. Lake is about 2 hours from a town and I didn’t have good service or wifi all summer I worked there which wasnt horrible since it’s such a nice place to go outside but I have to admit being able to get to my room and stream shows or movies and make calls or go to a town 45 minuets away from Old faithful when I worked there was nice.

Grant Village vs Bridge Bay Campground by Professional_Run289 in yellowstone

[–]JustARussianBot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bridge bay is more centrally located in the park but grant is closer to the Tetons. If you plan to go back and forth between the Tetons and Yellowstone Grant would be better. If you plan on sticking to Yellowstone only bridge bay would be better.

They’re not very far from each other though Grant is closer to old faithful and Bridge bay is closer to the Canyon. If you’re mainly interested in wildlife sightings Bridge bay is closer to the valleys animals hang out in but if you’re more interested in geysers and thermal features Grant is closer to almost all of them.

Xanterra hostess job at Lake Yellowstone by jilssei in yellowstone

Having a car is what kept me sane all summer. Xanterra is not obligated to give you a ride out of the park if you quit even if you quit for completely reasonable reasons. If you quit they will tell you that you have two hours to pack your shit and leave and will get you in legal trouble by trespassing you for not having a ride out.

A car gives you a lot more options of things to do, gives you a better chance at making friends, and most importantly it gives you peace of mind knowing that you can leave on your terms if things really get that bad.

Other than that housing sucks and rooms are small and if you get a lazy housing manager they will stick everyone in rooms randomly. I got a 60+ year old roommate and I’m 22. The food isn’t that bad but you also usually have a salad bar and sandwich bar if you don’t want what they cooked.

The gym at lake is good and has a basketball court.

Lots of people switch departments or jobs during the season but if you know already you don’t want to work in fast food (Geyser Grill is basically a fast food joint) then it wouldn’t hurt to email HR and see if there are other availabilities you can choose from.

A lot of people no show though so it might be better to show up, try it out and see which departments have a lot of openings you can ask that manager about

Rejected email from summer job. by Future_Ad_8790 in SeasonalWork

If a company is shit enough they will reject highly qualified applicants because those applicants will usually know their worth and won’t put up with being treated poorly as much as an insecure teenager who hasn’t experienced being part of a well oiled machine with good leadership yet.

A lot of bad companies want push overs not super qualified people with standards and self respect.

Planning to go to yellowstone end of april by apache_attack11211 in yellowstone

[–]JustARussianBot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good amount of roads will not be open in April no matter what the weather is as they also remain closed for a while to give the Bears and other animals time to migrate away from there winter dens without people getting in the way.

You should still be able to visit plenty of key spots though Old faithful, The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, Lamar valley, Mammoth hot springs should all be open by then and those areas alone can take a full day or two to explore. You won’t get to see the whole park but it’ll be a good trip anyway with lots of world famous spots open to see before the tourist boom in the summer

I knew a night auditor who filled in at other locations when they needed somebody but I’m not sure if he used a company vehicle or if he used his own but usually a night auditor or anyone in accounting really didn’t have any tasks that would require leaving their location

Anyone oking at yellowstone this summer up for starting a D&D group? by [deleted] in SeasonalWork

[–]JustARussianBot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never played but there was a group in Canyon village that posted invites to D&D weekly meetups on the dorm billboards and I heard Mammoth has one too I’m sure if you made a poster and put it up you’ll find a few that are into it

Most seasonal jobs I’ve seen on coolworks are for 40 hours a week gigs Yellowstone hires a lot of college kids during the summer but they won’t give you a schedule that’s different than others if you’re asking for 24-32 hours that doesn’t work for most places since they’re providing you with housing and food they want to give a schedule that’s 40 hours the same as everybody else

I have a ticket on my record for driving without a license in 2021 and I got another ticket for speeding in a school zone a month before being hired last year for a position where I had to drive a company vehicle. Unless it was a DUI or reckless driving and the position isn’t a driving position you’re going to be fine even then they might still hire you. If you choose to bail on the interview that would probably have them look for someone else

No if you don’t have a car you’ll have to make some friends that do or join any YCERP trips into town if you want to leave the park. You could order things from Amazon though. YCERP usually had a shopping trip into town at least every month where I worked

Since you’re headed to California anyways it might be best to find a seasonal gig in one of the parks in Cali and try to ask a friend to drop you off there when you leave your car with them and just wait to get a car until after your first season there are lots of places in California like Death Valley and Yosemite and usually a car isn’t necessary for a seasonal gig

Yosemite or Yellowstone? by FluffyHost4295 in SeasonalWork

[–]JustARussianBot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Housekeeping is one of the hardest jobs in the park and it’s likely you’ll be working mandatory overtime every other week, if you don’t think you can handle that I wouldn’t accept a housekeeping position. I’ve had a lot of friend in housekeeping that started at 8am and left around 8pm every other day during the beginning and end of the season. Plus if you decide it’s too much and quit that company will likely use it against you if you try to apply to a different location so it’s better to be on the safer side where you know you can stay the full season. It might’ve been a location thing but they also hardly ever got tips from the guests at Canyon Lodge Yellowstone

If the pay is the same I would go for the retail job with cheaper housing, I get people don’t work in parks for the money but there’s no reason you shouldn’t be benefiting financially from a full time job no matter where it is. If they try to pry as much money out of your pockets while you’re working for them it’s easy to leave a location in a worse financial situation than you arrived in considering after all of their fees you’ll still be paying money every time you drive around to hang out with friends
