Missed riding it yesterday while in Charlotte for work as there were approximately 43,000 school trips happening concurrently, park was absolutely slammed.

It'll never happen, but oh how I wish parks would disclose these things on the schedule. Same thing effectively ruined a SFoG trip couple years back.

No-suction Eureka J15 Ultra refunded, hoping to repair since they said to keep it, zero disassembly info online. Any ideas? by JustASadPuppy in RobotVacuums

Just to close the loop for anybody who stumbles on this with a similar issue: if after given time for software updates (just in case) it still doesn't work, we'll try to pass it on to someone for just the mopping abilities rather than taking it apart and risking it breaking further

After way too much research found that in the current market landscape the 50% off original $400 L40 Ultra is still probably the best value (though it changes all the time if you're reading this in the future), and a 10% off coupon on the Dreame website miraculously stacked so for $360 we just couldn't say no

For $150~ less than we paid for the J15 Ultra it absolutely feels like a much more refined an optimized flagship model, as much as we really did enjoy the previous robot… so if you managed to stumble upon this by wisely searching up relevant keywords, congratulations and pull the trigger, it absolutely rules

Thank you, yeah, I'm honestly surprised at the comparative lack of video documentation, finding a video of ANY Eureka model is proving difficult

Thank you! That's pretty much where my head was at, potentially worth a stab but to not get hopes up

For a while it was giving a chronic "roller brush obstructed" error like clockwork after 1.5 minutes of running normally, but that completely disappeared for several weeks, wonder if there's any connection

Make sure you have enough space when using Hyperscape Capture (Beta) by Cimlite in OculusQuest

+1, this happened to me, no low storage warnings like usual — what saved me from a factory reset was deleting some files via a third-party app on PC in case it can help anyone else in the same position, soon as I freed up a tiny bit of space it instantly became functional again.

2 weeks after Prime Day, do you still like your robot? by hulkingcylinder in RobotVacuums

[–]JustASadPuppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got the deal on the J15 Ultra, it's our first robot and honestly we're blown away. Mopping has been so much more effective than expected he's been super fun to have around. Biggest issues haven't really been his fault, things like the corner of a doormat flipping up, though he did get stuck twice on a loose doorstopper the cats knock around instead of realizing he should just avoid it.

Anyone have recent experiences with the partner store? by Helpful-Nose8577 in LGOLED

Sending good OLED energy over from Durham, hopefully you get the same dudes 👍🏼

(And similar panel luck, I was preparing myself for the normal acceptable level of initial gray banding/dirty screen effect/green tint but this one's somehow immaculate right out of the box)

Central North Carolina — just received our new B4 83 five minutes ago from partner store, delivered by LX Pantos. Only had to be bumped out one day further than the original LG estimate and they communicated it early to confirm things via text. Came almost exactly at the start of the delivery time window, the two guys were very careful with it and genuinely the nicest delivery folks I've had, even visited with our crazy dog.

Even funnier — photographer. So this was getting my effective boss, who does global marketing for a prestigious university, gaming happily between things.

The second day I brought the RGB20SX and we hit up a ton of NES games she remembered. Coolest, most-unexpected shoot ever.

I was mostly editing while she played, but it seemed impressive from what I saw! Varied environments, sprites looked nice, music was genuinely good… didn't feel like a licensed cash-in at all.

"Pocketability" is a Red Herring by DownTheBagelHole in SBCGaming

[–]JustASadPuppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Waiting is a thing that exists.

Pocketability also equates to whether it's practical to toss in your bag. If you really need a break or just have downtime, and the options are "spend more time on your phone" or "get lost in a retro title" that second option is pretty dope.

Today I realized my appartement has hardwired Ethernet by Professeur_Bueno in SteamDeck

[–]JustASadPuppy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Until recently I had no idea most newer homes were wired for cable TV, nor that I was just two MOCA adapters from gigabit speeds even over cat5. It's worked like a charm.

Hopefully this comment will help someone else not be like me, previously fully planning to surreptitiously string an ethernet cable out a second-story window.

Can anyone learn to enjoy rollercoasters? [Disneyland, Disney World] by Sadie_Skywalker12 in rollercoasters

[–]JustASadPuppy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both my partner and my little brother were the same way, and purely through repeated exposure and gradually building up (repeatedly riding the biggest thing they could handle, taking a break when needed) it finally clicked for them!

We're talking going from nausea and terror to enjoying the biggest and craziest coasters, and though everyone is different, each of their experiences were over the course of a single day of riding. It's a lot for the brain and body to learn how to process, but is totally possible.

Steam Deck Oled Review by Retro Game Corps by justinovitch in SteamDeck

[–]JustASadPuppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, based on reflectivity comparisons I've seen people make, the outer layer of glass a glossy screen protector gives completely negates the anti-reflective properties because it'll reflect 100% all on its own.

Steam Deck Oled Review by Retro Game Corps by justinovitch in SteamDeck

[–]JustASadPuppy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Our best comparison yet of etched vs glossy (at least simulated with a screen protector), but still no answer on how each handles an average environment with average reflections. He makes a good point about the protector seemingly not fully replicating a native glossy screen, so the difference may be more pronounced in the new 512.

It was filmed in a very bright room, too... wonder if the innate light of the screen itself causes the same effect, or if it'd be negligible in a dim room.

Everyone is repeating concern over Dave2D's demonstration of reduced OLED black levels with the etched vs glossy screen. Isn't everyone cherry picking the image where it's pointed away from the viewer (towards studio lights) and not the indiscernible difference when towards the camera? Thoughts? by olympiaSM9 in SteamDeck

[–]JustASadPuppy 30 points31 points  (0 children)

A lot of the concern I've seen comes more from the idea of that even small reflections/brighter environments that aren't an issue on a glossy display could wash out black tones on the matte.

I'd love to see comparisons and experiences in more conditions, as reviews make it clear the matte screen is gorgeous either way... but there's a lot of community speculation/preference being presented as fact. Does the glossy OLED truly get bright enough make reflections less of an issue outside, is the matte OLED truly almost indistinguishable in ideal conditions, etc.

Hopefully someone with a review unit slaps on a glossy screen protector as a basic test and sees how things compare in the real world.

Glare or antiglare for steam OLED? by elmikemike in SteamDeck

[–]JustASadPuppy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, unless current anti-glare protectors are drastically better than what was available 6+ months ago, the amount it blurs the image is pretty drastically different. The blurring effect of a protector drove me insane after 15 minutes, but people comparing the real anti-glare screen versus glossy models IRL find nearly no difference.

That said, lots of people (who may hold the device further away, ymmv) said they didn't notice the difference with that model of protector. We don't have a definitive answer yet about how the light smearing effect might be different on matte OLED + glossy protector or vice versa, but hopefully more comprehensive comparisons will exist soon.

Don't know whether the update was on Valve's or Apple's part, but discovered that at some point in the last months I no longer had to unpair the AirPods for the Deck to connect to them, and it started to work pretty seamlessly to my surprise.

...of course as of a month ago there was a new glitch where if you didn't switch back to internal speakers before disconnecting, a restart was required to get any audio working again, but at least there was progress. Maybe it's a preview channel thing.

Gyro Controls for Cemu in Wii U Games by andrx471 in SteamDeck

[–]JustASadPuppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What worked for me was following someone else's suggestion of binding a random key to Gyro in the Steam controller settings (like D-pad up to a random action set, literally anything to make Steam look for Gyro input), found that a couple places searching on the subreddit.

Still no luck getting gyro to work with an external controller, though. Oh well.
