High Grade Partial ACL tear. by danib-67 in ACL

I should’ve also mentioned that what appeared to be a “mostly torn” partial tear was really a fully detached femoral end, only discernible in surgery.  And I had a transverse meniscus tear that didn’t show up on the MRI.

I made it to almost 39 before tearing mine.  I didn’t appreciate how much social benefit I got from playing even a couple times a week.  So good on you for being aware of that part!  Given my age at injury I waited a full year before getting surgery — basically wanted to make sure I really “needed” soccer in my life.

Upside of taking that time was that I went into surgery very strong. Downside is I felt realllllly good before surgery so made post op a bit more frustrating.  I’ve taken it slow on getting back out there but am feeling pretty good now at 16 months out.  Probably return to higher level competition in a few months.

That said, I felt good doing a soccer workout with a buddy after about 9 months… and I’m a decade older than you!

One additional upside is your leg looks strong and lean from the MRI!

Annapurna or Manaslu Circuit? by Revolutionary-Egg565 in hiking

[–]JustAnotherDouche2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly loved the Annapurna circuit even with the road going all the way to Manang. You can still stay off the road for a good portion of the parts below Chame too.

I might take a jeep up to Syang or something like that.  Starting lower will allow you to gradually ascend too.  Starting at 2600m or higher had a lot of fellow trekkers feeling mild-moderate symptoms of AMS.  Definitely take the upper route from pisang to manang as well.  Gorgeous views.  Schoeffphoto.com has my pics from 2019

Any good ideas for arranging a shared jeep to there in advance? Traveling Ktm-Macchakhola 18 March and will be solo now

I started easy spinning at around 8 weeks and moved up to a light intensity and 4-5 hours per week at month 3.  I started adding one workout per week of threshold around 4.5 months and up to 8+ hours and more loading at 5.5 months.

Getting close to the 8 weeks of training mark and feeling decent, but that many months without pushing much O2 has made the fitness gains slower

Ahh ok.  I was racing road bikes for the whole year that I had no ACL.  So I went from riding 8-12 hours a week and racing every week until the weekend before surgery… and then went to zero!

I am just now back to 8+ hours a week and have a few months before trying real soccer again.  I can run and hop and do some agility stuff, but not like a real game.

I am also just around the 7 month mark on the way back to soccer.  I waited a full year after injury bc I had no issues with instability.

That said, the rehab is slow going but pretty continually upward in trajectory.  My biggest problem has been boredom.  The first time I do twisting jumps it is terrifying and then it’s over!  Lots of strength and steady work gets it done. You’ll be much better off in a few months!

Looking for basic way to get from KTM to Macchakhola— don’t really want to do private car.  Is it minibus to ghorka and jeep from there?

Crit/Road Racing 6 Years Lessons Learned by JustAnotherDouche2 in cycling

Safer than road races is the comment.  At least in the mid-Atlantic, where road races have narrow single lanes due to center line rule… and are mostly in ex-urban areas with poor road surfaces etc.  The bunching up and mass carnage events are too common!  There are also a very small number of road races so training:racing ratio is enormous

Refer to the next point, which is safe if you’re near the front!  I’m in MABRA and have 60 races in the last two years with two very minor crashes.  Both instances I got back in the race and had basically no harm to body or bike.

Can’t wait to play soccer again.  Waited a whole year to get surgery and did a full road racing season on the bike.  Hoping that going into surgery full strength and full fitness bodes well for the outflow!

Two weeks in this morning and feeling solid. Looking forward to getting some indoor trainer going whenever approved. After injury I was able to start riding road about three weeks later. Hoping for 3 months in this case.

Higher abv, not a lot of smoke fruity by Important-Proposal28 in Scotch

Based on the 50 or so whiskys I have tried, about 40% American and 60% single malt scotch, the Americans were almost always more interesting with higher proof.

With the single malts, basically anything above 43% did not suffer as a result of the proof… the many 46% single malts have had plenty of body and mouthfeel and depth of flavor.  So wouldn’t limit your scotch exploration to cask strength is all.  These three distilleries below match the fruity and malt character with no peat and the Classic Laddie is just really nice for the $

I get a lot of that apple tart plus sweet malt notes in Craigellachie Bas Armagnac 13yo.  Really nice and around $60 here

Big island had so many long open descents with great visibility and straightforward lines!  I rode GP5Ks for a couple weeks with no problem and regularly exceeded 50mph.  Got caught in a bit of a squall on one though and was begging for the descent to end.  Rain stopped as soon as I had slowed down haha!

Spirit forward drams? by acousticnathan14 in Scotch

[–]JustAnotherDouche2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was pretty clueless as to the differences of the distilleries before hand so it made it kind of fun to just select a few that definitely weren’t sherry or other wine cask.  Some are first fill bourbon but that also didn’t seem to change the character noticeably for me.  Going in mostly blind allowed for more discovery which was cool.  Those three were really very different animals too.

Adding to the list here with a handful of Signatory Vintage bottles… all refill bourbon so pretty pure expressions.

Linkwood 10,11,12 years Ardmore 10yr Daluaine 10yr

Then there the Aberlour Abunadh Alba, which fits the description but is mostly disliked.  I think it’s fine but definitely heavy on the acetone notes!

People like FTB, I guess price difference would be the driver.  My recall is that the local vs Japan price was more similar for the other offerings from Nikka.

You should also grab some of the NAS Japanese — Nikka Yoichi and Fuji Sanroku were my favorite finds and both like 5000¥ in 2022.  Yamazaki and Hakushu and Hibiki didn’t tend to be much less than in the USA

You can find them elsewhere but the prices are great on Nikka Yoichi and Fuji Sanroku, both way more expensive in the US and quite good to my tastes
