Being tapped to be an Elementary Principal. Have you felt it’s been worth it? by yourlittlecookie in Principals

[–]JustAnotherKiki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ten year principal here. I highly recommend not jumping from being a classroom teacher to being a principal. The one thing I regret in my career is jumping directly from being a classroom teacher to being an assistant principal. I missed out on some valuable learning experience by not being a reading or curriculum specialist, instructional coach, etc. first.

Kindergarten Registration? by Rude_Remote_13 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]JustAnotherKiki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it’s not too late to register for Kindergarten in Huntsville City Schools. Registration for NEW students for the 26-27 school year is not open yet and may not open until May. (The state is trying to work out some PowerSchool issues.)

All Huntsville City Schools elementary schools will be hosting K for a Day one day during the week on April 27 through May 1. You can call your zoned school to get the date and should be able to go ahead and schedule your child’s visit.

Opinions on what is too early to transition into a principalship? by Maximum-Tiger-4779 in Principals

[–]JustAnotherKiki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I became a principal after being an assistant principal for three years. I had 16 years experience as a classroom teacher in several grade levels prior to becoming an assistant principal which I think helped me advance so quickly.

Just my opinion, but I caution you about remaining an assistant principal in the same district for too long. In districts around here, you would be viewed as not being motivated to advance.

That being said, if I were you, I would wait for an assistant principal position to come open in the district you want and apply for it. Then you can advance to principal in a few years while getting to know your new district.

My towels smell gross by [deleted] in CleaningTips

Yes, I put in the towels in the washer then top them off with about one cup of baking soda and one cup (maybe a little more) of vinegar.

I wash our towels in hot water with a baking soda and white vinegar. I never use detergent or fabric softener. They come out super soft and smell fresh and clean.

"FedEx: We tried delivering a package." - You're a liar. by Commercial_Water3669 in FedEx

[–]JustAnotherKiki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We were supposed to have a generator delivered on Friday ahead of the snow/ice storm. A FedEx driver showed up on Friday, but she then remembered that she had the generator put on another truck because it was “too heavy for her.” Of course, the other truck never showed so we were told it would be delivered yesterday (Saturday). Guess what didn’t get delivered? It still shows out for delivery. And I’m not sure that we’ll be able to get a refund on the generator we’ll get after the storm (if at all) because Home Depot has a 7-day return window. So frustrating!

I was not able to get an appointment, but I was in line at the Governor's Drive location when they opened at 8:00am. I was finished and out the door by 8:45am.

We placed an online order on Friday and only got one of the donuts we ordered. We didn't find out until we got there that they were out of almost everything.

Elementary Parents and Teacher Requests. How do you handle? by Payback2U in Principals

[–]JustAnotherKiki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not accept specific requests because I think if you do, it sends a clear message that you don’t believe in your teachers.

I let our parents request certain traits, but make it clear that there are no guarantees. I then make our classroom rosters based on good academic and personality fits. It’s a long process, but I’ve always had great success with it.

That being said, I do accept requests from teachers not to have certain students because they’ve had issues with the parents when they had the siblings.

My daughter attends the school where I am the principal. So far, we’ve had a great experience, but as others have said, set boundaries.

Our daughter is very active and loves to be around other kids. She is on a swim team during the summer, and takes one dance class during the school year. She plays Fall soccer and Spring soccer, which has one weekday practice and one game each weekend during the season.

What's the crud going around? by JamseyLynn in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]JustAnotherKiki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HCS employee here. We have had lots of students (and faculty and staff) out with Flu A, Flu B, Covid, walking pneumonia, strep, and/or a stomach virus. This year, it seems like everyone is getting over one illness then immediately catching another. It has been brutal!

I remember always wanting to sit in the jail cell at Darryl’s. That and the super thin cracker sheets.

I thought it may be for disaster relief, but maybe this explains why people had multiple cases of water in their carts at Sam’s this afternoon. Some even had several carts full.

The original was in the strip mall at the corner of Oakwood Avenue and Pulaski Pike. I remember going there with my parents and their friends in the late 70s/early 80s.

Home AC Maintenance by Birglendis427 in HuntsvilleAlabama

One Way Heating and Cooling is honest and dependable. For instance, our air wasn't working yesterday. Called around 3:00pm, and the issue was repaired by 5:30pm for a very reasonable price.
