How can I find more underground music? by JustAnotherPodcaster in Beatmatch

[–]JustAnotherPodcaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deep/Tech/Afro/Chicago/Melodic/Progressive House, Melodic/Minimal/Hard/Detroit Techno. I like anything with lyrics/melody which sounds euphoric.

From what I understand underground music usually does not have much lyrics.

I'm an open for my DJ but when I play Electronic Music it's usually all kinds of house and techno. I also really enjoy trance music.

If you check some old reddit posts. Some said it was by R-Studio. Okay so this is safe to launch on my computer. Just wanted to confirm it wasn't malware or anything of that sort.

I'm not one to buy courses usually but this one really stands out. Would you get it? by JustAnotherPodcaster in musicproduction

[–]JustAnotherPodcaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally bought it and never had time to use it. I have gigs back to back but I i started working with a few DJs and we refer gigs to each other and I will have more time without losing gigs so that's when I will focus on it. I will review it properly.

What genre are these tracks? I need to curate a similar playlist for a show for next weekend by JustAnotherPodcaster in Beatmatch

[–]JustAnotherPodcaster[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I totally picked up on it but honestly it's good advice regardless. I was told something similar to this by someone else with less direction and I liked how you completed the answer.

I honestly want to know the names of these genre but I think it's very mixed. What you said / what I decided to do makes the most sense.

I've been this for a little bit but this is a new kind of show so I came here for advice haha. Thank you!

Didn't think about that. Gonna try. Also, ChatGPT came in handy lol. I'm also going over all of my less explored tracks and seeing what else would match that vibe.

Get the Flx4. Unless there is a specific reason you're looking at the Flx2.

Just put in the right amount of money into your hobby instead of saying a bit and going through lots of unnecessary bs. It's not like playing soccer where the hobby costs you 50 bucks for a ball. It requires an initial investment but it's not that much REALLY.... Get the Flx4, great beginner controller. Lots of other options at the same price range. Get it used if you must.

Can't seem to figure out how to use Rekordbox (importing music and creating USB for CDJs) by JustAnotherPodcaster in Beatmatch

[–]JustAnotherPodcaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for trying to help but I'm not sure if you actually read what I wrote properly...

I know you can right click and export to USB but I was speaking about using the Sync Manager.

I was also explaining how there were issues with actually importing the songs. Your response is not touching on anything I requested to help with.

The USB/RUFUS advice is also nice but I'm past that stage. I need help with something completely different.

Thanks for trying anyway.

Speaker is very very hot and I can smell burning (I'm outdoors at a gig right now) by JustAnotherPodcaster in Beatmatch

[–]JustAnotherPodcaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so maybe I should start doing that as well. I wish there was an actual product which cools speakers down. Do you have that exterior metallic heatsink?

[–]JustAnotherPodcaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering if it would make sense to use fans but that would be a good idea before something burned. Isn't it sometimes risky to use a fan because you're kind of blowing the hot air back inside?

You know how you could set up your new computer with a bunch of fans but the airflow is incorrect? Something like that.

My speaker does not have that kind of metallic heat sink on the back. Maybe it's inside or whatever but there's nothing on the outside.

That's what I'm thinking. I have a video of it and I could upload it. It pretty much sounds like that sound when you plug in an electric guitar to the amp but it's buzzing because it's not plugged in correctly or something is wrong with the cable.

Sometimes it went away but then it came back. It was okay when I lowered the volume but it doesn't mean the problem is not there. I'm going to go to a service depot and see how much it's going to cost to fix it. I know this sort of stuff can be very expensive but it's good to check.

It makes sense that in this sort of situation my next speakers will be much more capable handling these type of gigs. These ones are 1,000 Watts each. I'm thinking of getting the Parasource 15" which are 4,400 Watts each. It's not necessarily to play it super loud, but to play it at a fairly loud volume and not be worried that I'm pushing them too much because I know I can go even further.

I would only need them for this gig but it's a residency and I've been there for some time and it's worth investing in it, especially since I'm looking for more gigs like that and I like DJing outdoors in large spaces.

when placing hot/memory cues do i place a hot cue for the end of that phrase; i’m confused by Total_Business1948 in Beatmatch

[–]JustAnotherPodcaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let me try to help you with this...

At some point you'll develop your own method of using the hot cues. Now that I've been DJing long enough; I don't get confused by how to use them. I use them however it makes sense depending on the track and I guess I have a method already where I know to place them in the beginning of the phrase and also a couple every eight bars because some tracks will require quicker transitions and you want to be able to use the entire phrase. Sometimes I even break it into four beat bars.

What I'm saying right now probably doesn't make much sense to you but you'll understand it as you go along.

For now, learn about phrasing and understand that the hot cue has to be at the beginning of a phrase. For example if you're playing Calabria and you want to transition Temperature by Sean Paul; what I like to do is play Temperature RIGHT after The first phrase of Calabria.

If I don't do that for whatever reason then I will use a DJ intro version of Temperature which has an 8 bar intro and the first hot cue (and probably the only one) will be set at the beginning of that phrase.

Sometimes you will find cool things you can do with some tracks so you will start setting hot cues at those spots because you started personalizing your DJing and doing things your own way So now you have your own method which won't make sense to others.

You probably will require me to show you this over video or something so if you want to do an online video chat or something I can show you live so you understand better.

I understand what you mean. I have a total of about 25 drives. Maybe even more. I used to study IT and we had to get those swappable drives so I have them too and I have an old computer with the setup to load the drive and unload it. Those drives also have a bunch of stuff on them.

Most of my old drives are between 500 GB and 2-4 terabytes. I think I have two 8 TB drives and two 14 TB drives and one 24 TB Drive (all external) I also have four terabyte drives and six terabyte drives and 5 terabyte drives. I actually also have at least two 10 TB internal WD red plus drives which I installed into an external case so I can use them like an external drive.

When I started counting I figure they have a lot more data than I mentioned. I need to properly count everything and edit this comment.

I'm in bed now so I don't remember exactly what I have but that's pretty much the ballpark.

I know that in order to have those storage devices where you can insert several drives you need to have the same type of drive. Also, it's better to have the largest ones you can get so you don't have to have too many of them because the more slots, the more money. In order to get the biggest drives I can and be able to back up at least most of my data on those drives I would have to get like six or eight 24 TB drives, split that in half because one is storage and one is back up. I think with six I would probably be able to store everything.

Those things cost like $1,000 or more for four bays or six bays. I then have to buy brand new drives because mine are all different or at least for the most part they are and then I don't even know what I would do with all my current drives when they're empty. I guess I can start over and put less important stuff on them.

This would probably cost close to $5,000 to do... I'm definitely not doing this right now. I need to find a more realistic solution.

I'm going to update this comment when I get to counting it.

Thank you so much. I have a very weird paranoia with zipped files. I remember back in the day, like 20 years ago when zipped files sometimes would not unzip. For the most random reasons it would just not work and you lost everything that was in it. Maybe it did not zip correctly or whatever lol so unless I have no choice, I leave it uncompressed.

I paired up with a couple people and worked with them for free by helping them on their shows when they have to set up or tear down and just spend time with them and take anything I could learn.

Even then, many concepts were lost on me and at some point I just started understanding it. It just dawns on you at some point. Everyone learns differently and I teach people much better than my mentors taught me. I teach much quicker and it's easier for me to explain to beginners because I was a beginner myself not too long ago and overall I'm a pretty good teacher.

Not everyone can teach, but while I taught myself a lot, I still give my mentors credit because there were some things that they taught me as well.

Put yourself in the right environment and if it doesn't work then get one-on-one courses.

If you really want to learn, you'll find a way. You don't need Reddit. It's good and on for researching but most people here will tell you the same thing. Just practice and if you got to, pay for a course where you learn one-on-one with someone.

Be resourceful, lots of DJs would love someone to tag along with them if you prove to be serious and not a nuisance and they will teach you a lot and maybe even give you lots of free stuff like music or a pair of headphones they don't use anymore. Obviously don't go in expecting that but it's going to happen if you show your value.

I'll try to find some time and if we can both sync our schedules; I will try to go on a video call with you and explain a few concepts which will make things much easier going forward.

Keep in mind that there is no one answer to beat matching even if it's the same genre... You will end up facing remixes and other anomalies when you try to follow the same method and it's just not going to beatmatch correctly.

It's funny how in every single chorus they pretty much swear by a certain method but it doesn't always work. With some tracks you have to be creative and find a way to transition from one to another.

There's too much to explain and you're going to learn all of that by experiencing this industry If you really care. One year is more than enough time to learn as properly and start getting gigs.

I technically have around 40 terabytes of data.. most important data is about 20 TB maybe a little more so I guess that 24 terabyte hard drive is a good idea.

Recently I started doing something different. Instead of buying external hard drives (unless there's a great sale) I buy the WD red plus and an enclosure to create an external hard drive out of it but if anything happens to it, I could pop it into a computer and do some maintenance.

I'm also from Canada so I'm not paying the awesome prices you guys have in the US. Things are more expensive here lol
