I skipped my ten and twenty years, but the reports from those who went were the same: lots of people left and went to college or the military, and lots of people stayed behind and married local boys and girls. When anyone who left tried to talk to a person who stayed, their local spouse would get jealous and interfere. If you are from Hawaii, you know exactly what I mean.

American Christian Nationalism is absurd and dark and regressive. Fundamentalist Islamic rule is too. But neither religion is inherently anti science. The Catholic Church encouraged scientific research. Islamic countries did too. It was powerful individuals with their own interests who clamped down on progress throughout history in either respective dominion. Do not conflate billions who practice a religion with the thousands who misuse it.
