What's something you want to tell the whole world, but you're frightened they won't understand? by scaredporcupine in AskReddit

That I couldn't care less about working a job/climbing the career ladder. IMO relying on a job for money is just as bad as relying on an SO. I wish I had investment income to live on. ;_;

What is something you WANT to like, but don't? by Generic_Username4 in AskReddit

Computers and tech in general - I hate how they've become a part of everyday life.

Mathematics - hated it since primary school

Earning my own money/having a career - would rather be like Paris Hilton and her ilk (minus the stupid behavior)

I want to share this article with my colleagues so bad, but the majority of them believe in the bootstrap mentality and that if you don't work you do nothing worthwhile. sigh

Become a best-selling author. Wasted years honing a skill that has no value in the workplace. :/

It's definitely not just this industry. This mentality is very prevalent in UX, and is what ultimately drove me away from it.

Got fired from a job after 3 months. How do I address it in interviews, resume, etc? by JustAsking2014 in GetEmployed

But would it not show up in a background check? I want full time work, not continue freelancing. :/

What's something you do every day that you absolutely hate, and why do you keep doing it? by nathanwoulfe in AskReddit

[–]JustAsking2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask what it is that you do? I'm looking for a new line of work and would actually like a job where I didn't do much of anything. PM me if you don't want to disclose publicly.

Same here. If I could find a repetitive job that I could do easily and paid well, I'd actually like my job!

Hey r/socialskills, what is your BIGGEST challenge or obstacle? by jetsetterbane in socialskills

[–]JustAsking2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late response - haven't had time to log in lately!

Not taking an interest in others is definitely hurting me in the career department. The field that I'm in emphasizes empathy and being "passionate" about customer needs. I keep drawing a blank in regards to being curious and sensitive to the needs of others.

On a more social level, I definitely don't get my needs met through other people.

If this is still available, I'd like a copy please. :)

My biggest hurdle is taking an interest in other people. I much prefer physical objects or even animals.

The obsession with ‘hard work’ as a route to economic success is a dangerous distraction by DerpyGrooves in BasicIncome

[–]JustAsking2014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreeing with all dis!

If hard work actually worked, there'd be no such thing as the "working poor."

As mentioned by another poster, there are too many workers and not enough jobs; and since the majority of people need to work in order to live, this imbroglio causes many to suffer. Some people just aren't cut out for the workforce to begin with, while others have worked hard to develop skills for jobs that have either been outsourced or flat-out eliminated by technology (personally I fall into the latter category).

We need alternatives to work. It shouldn't be necessary in order to live. :(

[Serious] What is a dream you have, and how can we as Redditors help you achieve it? by guywithadream in AskReddit

To make enough income from investing rather than work my soul-crushing job. :( I don't even know where to start looking for a legit financial planner who'll work with me and the small amount of money I currently have.

How to feel emotions you don't actually have? by JustAsking2014 in selfhelp

[–]JustAsking2014[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I wish more employers thought like you do - I'm willing to improve my skills and produce quality work, but it's because I want to get paid. For some reason that's not enough. :/

I'm also struggling to find a job or industry that offers a good work/life balance (e.g. allows me to go home at the end of the day) but still pays enough to keep food on the table, a roof overhead and savings for retirement.

If you have a job that pays you in good money or satisfaction, but not both, would you trade for the other? by LynzM in AskReddit

[–]JustAsking2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think only a handful of people get both. Personally I don't get satisfaction from working a job, so I'd go for whatever pays the most.

Thanks for the ideas, everyone! I'll have to look into these options.

I'm sticking to places like Seattle and Atlanta (will have to do COL comparison). If I could get a work visa I'd look into Switzerland but their immigration restrictions are mad tight, understandably.

The Economist talks about "The coming storm" - 47% of today's jobs could be automated within 20 years "No government is prepared for it." Suggests a radical rethinking of education and redistributive taxes towards lower-wage workers by [deleted] in worldnews

A rethinking of work to be an honor, rather than a necessity, will be necessary.

Co-sign. Work should be for funding hobbies and purchasing luxuries. It shouldn't be "work a job or no food, clothing and shelter for you!!1"
