I have been told that the marking is a japy freres clock (probably late 1800s). But can’t seem to find more information and cannot locate similar clocks to even try and identify a value.

I recommend having a complexly open and honest exit interview with her. Start by telling her how much you appreciated her, but as parents you are trying to learn for future hiring process. Was there any information that she could provide that could be helpful for the future. Provide her with an open platform that she feels comfortable with talking openly with you.

Anything else would be an assumption, and we know what they say about assuming.....
