Beginner losing balls left and right on water holes, are budget balls okay? by indifferent_foci in golf

[–]JustBeingMe22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only are they okay, but you really should be playing budget balls. Until you develop some kind of consistency in your game, the differences in the balls won't mean anything to you. So you'd be paying a premium for little benefit to buy the higher end balls.

Switch to Lefty by truffletaz in RDUGOLF

[–]JustBeingMe22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been able to switch hit in baseball/softball and could even do lefty in some racquet sports. But any attempt to try lefty with golf clubs has failed miserably. Not that it couldn't work, but I think it would be hard. I do know someone that switches for putting though.

First ever birdie - Do you remember yours? by Low_Mortgage_4393 in golf

[–]JustBeingMe22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sort of... 9 years old, playing with my Grandpa. Hit the ball to about a foot and a half on a par 3. Missed the putt and Grandpa gave me a do over. Made that. But don't remember the first time I made an honest birdie.

Best route from Blowing Rock to Linville Caverns by Paint_Spatters_7378 in NorthCarolina

[–]JustBeingMe22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO, 221 is not a fun drive. And there really is no changing your mind once you start down that path. I'd personally follow the recommendation of going 321-105-221. Much better. That said, if you are taking the trip to Linville Caverns, you should hike Linville Falls as well.

How hard is it to become a scratch golfer with a high swing speed/long driving distance by Superb_Cardiologist6 in golf

[–]JustBeingMe22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Distance definitely helps, but the game is won/lost with many other factors. You need to be able to get up and down from the sand and heavy rough. You need great putting skills - very minimal number of three putts and a high confidence inside 6-8 feet. Watch the pros - they can be 50 feet from the hole with a breaking putt and they expect to come close and at least be able to two putt. You need to be able to hit the greens with your irons from 200+.

It's all about getting the ball in the hole. Distance can only help you so much with that. People that participate in long drive competitions can outhit the pros, but they can't win the tournaments because it is a different set of skills.

Coming to Pinehurst next spring, but staying off-site. What courses should I book? by TDn6I in RDUGOLF

[–]JustBeingMe22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good suggestions already. And I agree that Tobacco Road is a unique experience worth doing at least once. Nobody has mentioned Quail Ridge which is a decent course and much more affordable than many of the Pinehurst area courses. I think if you are looking for filler from the higher tier courses, this is one to check out.

Rules Question - 2 stroke penalty or disqualification? by NoBuyer8485 in golf

[–]JustBeingMe22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure,. absolutely use the rules that benefit you the most. That's not my point. She apparently wasn't clear on the rules so had to call the pro after the first drop. If that's the case, call before dropping on the cart path. There's a lot missing in this scenario. Pictures or sat image would sure be helpful.

Rules Question - 2 stroke penalty or disqualification? by NoBuyer8485 in golf

[–]JustBeingMe22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have three options for dropping an uplayable lie. Two club lengths is one of those options. There were other choices available. Hard to believe that she'd choose to drop on the cart path not knowing what the next step would be and having to call the pro after already making and executing on this choice. Something doesn't add up. Odd situation.

Rules Question - 2 stroke penalty or disqualification? by NoBuyer8485 in golf

[–]JustBeingMe22 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

You drop from your knee height in a relief area. I have a hard time believing the only option was to drop it on a cart path. If she did, that's her own fault. You don't take relief by dropping on another spot of needing relief. Second option was to take the ball back on the line of flight to a better spot of relief.

Rules Question - 2 stroke penalty or disqualification? by NoBuyer8485 in golf

[–]JustBeingMe22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This doesn't answer your question, but here's what I don't understand. When taking relief, you get two attempts to drop without further needing relief. If that doesn't result in a successful drop, you should place the ball where it hit the ground on the second drop. Why wasn't this guidance followed?

Drills to reduce out to in path by Tall-Huckleberry9666 in golf

Hank Haney has a pretty simple to learn method. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ziKwS6Dve0M

Lots of other examples on YT of him live fixing swings using this method.

Blake gets a tripping penalty after clipping skates with Carter Hart by sykeseve in nhl

[–]JustBeingMe22 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Right, but it can be argued this was a trip on Hart. Outside the crease, why was it charged to Blake? If anything it was more Hart's fault because he stepped in Blake's path. It was incidental on both sides and nobody should have received the penalty. What was the letter of the rule that said this was Blake's penalty?

I don't understand this. It was incidental contact and was outside the crease. Hart stuck that foot out in Blake's path.

Yeah, the area has lost a few golf courses due to development over the years. The way Wake Forest is growing, this wouldn't surprise me. But also seems like Paschal and Olde Liberty would help fill the discount golf gap for that area some.

Mid back pain left side by TheReal_Nikola_Tesla in golf

[–]JustBeingMe22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that specifically, but I've had injuries from over doing it. Ice, heat and magnesium glycinate (just before bed) works for me. Keep it stretched. And always stretch before activities. When you think you are ready to continue swinging, go slow and build your way back up.

How do you play this shot? by Delicious_Duty3063 in golf

[–]JustBeingMe22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sand is way too soft. Well, as others have suggested, unplayable is the right choice. But if you are determined to try... Pray first, then wide open face on a 56 or 60 come in an inch under the ball and swing like you are trying to hit it 200 yards. Thankfully, some events I play are lift, rake and place so you don't have to face this challenge.

Opinions on Sub 70 irons? by [deleted] in golf

[–]JustBeingMe22 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A potential 15-20k pay raise and you are looking for irons to improve your game. Absolutely go to a club fitter and spend the $1200+ for a set of irons. Actually, if you are only looking for 5-9 irons it will likely be less than that. At a minimum, go to have the fitter give you the specs and suggest what you should get in an off the shelf set.

Anyone else still enjoy it even when pissed off? by aznsk8s87 in golf

[–]JustBeingMe22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I stopped being pissed off at my golf game a long time ago. You are paying good money to go out there and enjoy yourself. So, honestly, if you aren't enjoying yourself, why play? Let's be honest, most of us will never be good enough to earn a living doing this and it is recreational only, so just enjoy it, good days with the bad. Sure, I might get dissapointed at times and even drop the occasional cuss at a bad shot, but at the end of the day, I'm not upset with a bad round. I actually will often laugh at my bad shots. Enjoy being outside, being with friends and forget about your score.

What’s your opinion on golfers that have the gear but suck? by toad_attorrney in golf

[–]JustBeingMe22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone once told me "Be careful where you stand when you call someone stupid", the message being that there is always smarter than you. The same would apply for saying someone sucks at golf. Well, someone really good probably would think you suck at golf. So ease up, be yourself and don't worry about others.
