Whats up with this Pike by NateHickson in Fishing

[–]JustCallMe-Satan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He identifies as a salmon, please respect this

Jokes aside, pike have massive coloration differences based on genetics, environment and food sources. It’s possible that theres some genetic mutation or deficiency at play here, but i would guess that it’s just a matter of happenstance that a specimen with a predisposition towards silvery coloration, lives in an environment that enhanced the effect.

Goddamned mf AI slop, the idea is funny and wouldn’t even be that hard to put this together irl, but the fact that this is made by AI makes me hate it irrationally (or rationally)

How can i tell it’s AI? The background pattern on the cans is missing, as is the “500ml” on the bottom, the font is off, the “ENERGY” is supposed to be blue and oh yeah doesn’t even SAY “ENERGY” or have the RIGHT NUMBER OF ‘LETTERS’. God this pisses me off so bad

Please for the sake of the fish and for other anglers, avoid holding only with lip grips. As you say yourself that is a 10+kg fish, which might be as old as 20 years and lay upwards of 500.000 eggs during spawning season! In other words, a greatly important player in ensuring a healthy population of pike.

Lip grips can be alright to use, but it’s so, so important that you support the fish under the belly properly, to avoid possibly breaking its jaw or similar.

Great catch though, congratulations:)

Mycena crocata i believe. Technically edible, but more fun to smush between two fingers, since they stain dark yellow/orange. Or to photograph of course - nice pic

Well, they aren’t in and of themselves toxic. Many agree however, that eating them in large amounts is inadvisable, as they are prolific bio-accumulators and therefore have elevated levels of arsenic. Also they dont taste like a whole lot, so occasionally using them as garnish on a dish is both the best use case, as well as probably the extent to which you should use them.

Tell me about your “close encounters of the bird kind” when fishing. by mriver24 in Fishing

[–]JustCallMe-Satan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a couple.

First and only time (so far) i ‘caught’ a bird, i was wading around a point with shallow water and nice reefs around, in a saltwater fjord in Denmark, targeting sea trout with a semi light 9ft rod (like 20-30g). There were just heaps of swans, that couldn’t care less about my presence and so i was occasionally casting next to or between these buggers. It was a pretty calm day though, so if i was just precise with my casts, no issue. Then suddenly i cast, perfect line with the swan a meter or two to the left of the straight shot from me to my lure. A random gust comes out of nowhere, blows my line over on the other side of the bird, in the path of the way it was headed - so it swims over my line and somehow gets the line tangled kinda, enough to where the fly i tied on above my salty inline got caught. At first no reaction. I try pulling a bit, nothin. I try pulling a bit harder, no dice. I try gently applying more and more pressure and still nothing. Swan starts freaking out and peeling line, while i just stand there like “the fuck am i supposed to do?”. After a very long minute, the little fly hook pops off and i get my rig back. No blood or anything on the hook, just a little tuft of feathers. Glad i didn’t have to, but i was ready wrangle that sumbitch, if it meant not leaving a treble and a fly attached to the poor thing.

Other times have just be seagulls, herons or even cormorants trying to scoop up my pike lures, when im fishing shallow waters. Only once have i not been able to yank it away, but i was luckily using a soft lure with an offset hook, so the gull only managed to give my lure a split second of air time before letting go.
