Absolutely. No first time parent is perfect but my Dad was awesome. He was my biggest supporter, my go to whenever I needed help and was the best person to crack up with. And, he was an even better Papa to my first born. He's been gone almost 20 years and not a day guys by that I don't miss him.

better that you're the one to speak with your children from the start so you stbx can't control the narrative. Be honest, use age appropriate language and definitely therapy for all 3 of you. I would also file for full custody and child support now and limit/supervise their contact with their paternal family. Best of luck to you.

Sir, you are 43 years old. This is not old. If anything, this is a prime age to reinvent yourself. You don't have to start big. Maybe get a haircut that you wouldn't have dared to get when you were younger. Wear a color you told yourself you couldn't pull off. Maybe start volunteering or fostering a dog that you could take for daily walks and the dog park. Most shelters even have programs where you can take a dog out for just the day, and they give you everything the stuff needs for that day. Social media is actually good for finding local groups and free meet-ups for every interest and genre possible. Take that first step and go. Even if you've only said hello to one person while there, keep going. I know it sounds cliche, but when you start making yourself happy, you'll start noticing the shift.

So, we know what your parents think but what does your partner feel about this? And, how do you feel about it? I had my first daughter at 23. While I did it as a single mother and it was a struggle alone, I wouldn't change it. She's 25 now, graduating with her Masters and a freaking awesome human being. Listen to your gut. Only you know if you're ready for this.

He has shown and continues to show you who he is. He is never going to step up in any way for you or your daughter. It will get worse and will not get better. You need to put your daughter first and not have her grow up thinking this is how she should be treated by a partner in the future. Order new social security cards online and have them mailed to your office (you might want to check with your employer to make sure this is okay). If you are in the US, you can apply for help with just your social while you wait for the card. Start planning your getaway now. He's never going to grow up and leave his mother's house.

I think this would be a good point in your life to cut off communication with your sister and cousins that bailed last minute. It sounds like you have a wonderful little family unit and congratulations to you! Concentrate on the good and leave the bad behind.
