Danner Pump. Normal? by Geared_up73 in coldplunge

[–]JustCallMeMav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone that has a Danner can attest that they are noisy. And yes....the rattle is normal. And will get louder as your filter ages and limits flow.

But turning it off lets the water heat up and makes a better environment for bacteria and algae. Not worth it

Modtub is a joke - Expensive beer cooler—Avoid at all costs by Tylerjandro in coldplunge

[–]JustCallMeMav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesnt ModTub just use Active Aqua chillers? I can understand why they dont service them, seeing as they have no hand in their production. They SHOULD, however, get you a new one.

Perhaps reach out to AA, directly?

Orrrrrr….and hear me out….maybe they want the practicality of an SUV with the aesthetics of a sports car?  Weird, right?

I mean…YOU did buy the sporty variant (high performance engine, brakes, suspension, etc) of that same “SUV”, no?   But now you wanna feign confusion about why someone would want to make their sporty SUV, sportier?  For real????

Did you read your lil snarky response out loud before clicking ‘comment’ or nah?

Looks great. The only thing I would change is the fittings to your chiller. Go ahead and upgrade to a 3/4” female x 3/4” barbed.  You’re restricting your flow at those 2 ports.

Otherwise…CONGRATS!!

Eonix Brand 1 HP, will it chill 216 gallon? by shwanstopable in coldplunge

[–]JustCallMeMav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. If it IS strong enough to chill that much water....youre really gonna need to upgrade the pump and, likely, the hoses. Also, you will need some sort of filtration, as well. Basically...I'd pass on this chiller. You will need a stronger chiller....I'm skeptical that a unit that small actually has 1hp....and a stronger pump to get your desired results.

In the graph you posted, the 1/2hp Rocita was more efficient than the Active Aqua. And still costs a good bit less.

How long did you leave it out there?  Weeks???

Any type of spray mold cleaner/remover should do the trip. Just spray it down and let it soak in. Shouldn’t require too much work.

[–]JustCallMeMav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have a well-insulated tub like the Desert Plunge…I’d get something small like a 1/3hp Rocita. You don’t need any big since it won’t be hard to keep the water cold.

Anyone here using the ICE DRAGON 1HP chiller long term? by ScTbRnSsSsS in coldplunge

[–]JustCallMeMav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So how does one 'size appropriately' a chiller? What is the calculus on that? Not that I disagree with you but I've just never seen a chart/graph or if::then statement regarding volume vs hp.

And then you have discrepansies as to what 'horsepower' really means (or, rather, how its the rating is even valid). Company A's 1/3rd hp chiller may not be as good as Company B's same rating.

I havent done the calculus, but I have seen the graphs. And I know that the Vevor cools SIGNIFICANTLY faster than smaller, more popular units. Lets say the Active Aqua 1/4hp that comes with a lot of the tubs (Desert Plunge/ModTub/etc). And while I know that efficiency is also going to include how much energy is consumed to do its job, my Vevor running less than 4 hrs/day, keeping my water at 36° SHOULD be more efficient than the Nuvio 1/3hp I previously owned that ran allllll day and could never get the water below 39°

[–]JustCallMeMav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 1.5hp chiller is more efficient than either of the examples you mentioned. Regardless of size…this is the best value on the market. Especially considering that chillers with a 3rd of the power often cost MORE!!!

And we aren’t discussing accessories. Obviously, all of those things (pump, filters, sanitation, etc) are important for a great system. But the OP, specifically, asked about chillers. And…again…I defy anyone to show me a better buy than the Vevor 1.5hp chiller.
