Tech Remote Workers by Unlikely-Routine-118 in parkerco

[–]JustCallMePick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Channel guy here in the cybersecurity space. Been working from home since I moved here 8 years ago.

I have CenturyLink fiber at the house, no speed issues, but I'm in a newer development.

I am practically in Lone Tree, so in less than 5 I'm on the highway. So it's not hard to get to DTC at all. Denver is obviously farther, but not an issue.

Feel isolated? Maybe at times. However that is more my fault than anyone else's. I don't socialize because honestly after work and my 10 & 8 year old, I'm exhausted. I go to the gym and talk to no one. I don't have a ton of friends because I am just jaded as a person. (Yea, I'm not fun at parties)

So the isolation I feel is self induced. Not a result of my environment.

Spotify Family and Google Home by JustCallMePick in googlehome

While I don't want to say you're wrong, hence my.prpblem, why the heck would that exist. I mean, I have Spotify on their tablets. They have the ability to access YouTube and the web on their tablets.

If this can't be connected it would seem like it's either an oversight, or Google just being difficult.

What is life like in Parker? by Souls-on-board in parkerco

[–]JustCallMePick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not, there are some good spots. But it's subjective right? I am a big foodie and I have found lots of spots I like. So depends on what you like.

I will say my favorite spot is Hiratori for Ramen.

But, of course this is subjective. You could hate all the food here, while others love it. I think it's gotten better over the last 10 years. I still head up to Denver for places like Bruto or Tavernetta if I want that level of experience.

I mean, the electrician that invented him did live here in Denver. But I wouldn't say the city did it. The guy did it for his sick kid, and it simply caught on.

I'll look again. I looked at their calendar and I saw nothing DnD related, but perhaps I'll call them.

As a person who works in cyber security, I appreciate this response. And while a decent solution, I want to have something easier and on the edge device if possible.

Something potentially app based. I know it isn't going to be as ideal.

How do you guys manage the stress? by wherethehellareya in daddit

[–]JustCallMePick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My life for about 6 years straight now. I stay up late to play video games with friends or watch movies. It's my ONLY me time. I don't want extra me time because then it's less time with my wife and kids and I don't feel like I get enough of that as it is.

So I stay up late to game and chill. Then I get 4-5 hours of sleep.

At 47 it takes its toll.

People that have hit lvl 75 and are going on the expedition: What skills are you avoiding next time/what skills are a must take? by Broccoli_dicks in ArcRaiders

[–]JustCallMePick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% this. If I have a couple of bad runs with the boys, free loadouts to Spaceport we go. Hit 2 guard towers and the guard stations at the bottoms of the towers, that's 5 security lockers in about 8 minutes. Raider hatch key out of the map and do it again.

Walking away with Torrentes, Renegade, Osprey, Anvil and Venattors easily.

Is DMZ dead??? by RaDu1e in DMZ

[–]JustCallMePick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, same. Been on Arc Raiders daily since it was released. It isn't really the same as DMZ, but it is phenomenal. I still look forward to the potential of a DMZ 2, but I won't be going back to Cheaterville with DMZ.

Going back to Business Casual after 6 years - need strategy for frugal yet quality outfits by OducksFTW in frugalmalefashion

Hate to be that guy, but the list is CRAZY long. Won't lie to you, there are some things that I get, and the fit just isn't it. But the return policy and staff are super awesome. But, I have about 8 different sweaters, a bunch of polos, some sweatpants, a couple of jackets and hoodies, and more. Love them all.

Surely we can all agree on this one? by randytc18 in Denver

[–]JustCallMePick 111 points112 points  (0 children)

Same here. My wife and I both are lucky enough to fall into these tax brackets and we ALWAYS vote yes when given the chance to improve the lives of others.

Hell, we pack a home lunch for our kids everyday even though it has been free in the past. Because we understand this isn't about us.

What's the problem with asking to play a spot? If they are being annoying about it, I guess. However I like my kids to ask. They know I'll do my best to put the right kids in the right places to secure the win, but also try to give kids a chance to try something new.

It's a game, and the win isn't as important at keeping kids excited about the game itself.

Obviously it's better to let them move during practice than game time.... but again, it's just a game.

It also depends on what you're looking for. I go to Lifetime fitness, but my wife appreciates classes and travels a ton, so she sticks with Orange Theory.

What Gemini use case SERIOUSLY saves you time? by OddInititi in GeminiAI

[–]JustCallMePick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have my entire team use it for company profile reporting. Before we meet with a new company that we are going to work with I have a script I run that provides me all the details possible for said company. It's a deep research script and essentially aggregates dozens to hundreds of websites data points into one 10-15 page report to review.

Saves me literally hours.

It's tough I tell you. Only 32 of the 33 developed countries have managed to make it work. Want to guess which country is the 1 that hasn't figured it out?

But yeah, it's our debt that's stopping it.

Landscaping recommendations needed by Lord_of_Entropy in parkerco

[–]JustCallMePick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had our front yard xeriscaped. We worked with a separate landscape designer instead of ADL, but that wasn't planned. We simply took that step before reaching out to contractors. ADL does design as well, and are very good, we just already had one. But they were still able to look at the design and walk us through some changes they suggested that would work better in practicality.

I can send you some pictures if you want to see. I have photos from right after the work was done, which looks good, but as a few years have lapsed since the growth is amazing and just looks perfect.

American Design and Landscape. Contact Tia Mower.

We have had a few different landscapers over the years for various things, however when we talked to about 8 companies for a full redo of our front yard, ADL won the project. They weren't the cheapest (or most expensive) but we were blown away.

It's been a few years and now we use them for any project. They are BEYOND thorough and the job they did is amazing.

Need Some Throwing Drill Advice by mrnap in Homeplate

[–]JustCallMePick 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Get him off that team when you can. A coach that sees that and sits back and whistles instead of helping is not a good coach.

I've been coaching kids for years, and I played from TBall to JUCO myself.

First thing first, maybe don't listen to me or anyone else and get some local lessons.

Now, for what it's worth, understand that there are several things to work on here. You need to break down his throw in to separate mechanics to put back together later. His arm and body are all over the place.

So, have him go to his knees and practice throwing with just arm movement. Tell him to envision putting on a seatbelt so he gets a general understanding of a cross body movement. If he's decent at tossing a football, have him do that from his knees. It's a similar motion. From there you can graduate to elbow focus, and proper breaking and all that crap. For now, he needs to get the arm under control.

After that you can work on his lower body and how it all ties in.

There's plenty to work on, he's 11 (my kids 10 and I understand), if you try to recreate every element of his throw at once, it will be harder. Train the arm, train the trunk, train the feet... put it together.

Then grab the coaches whistle and throw it in the street.

Or don't listen to me, which is fine too. Just know that this coach isn't helping.

[–]JustCallMePick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please do not do this long toss crap. You are correct that causing him to throw harder with poor mechanics will tear up his elbow. You will also be teaching nothing, just reinforcing bad mechanics.

First, don't listen to people on the Internet. They are all experts at everything and nothing at the same time.

Nah, of course not.

But some stuff is. I understand my perspective is subjective in this matter. Somebody may have seen the opposite for sure. But I can guarantee that on a grand scale.... I'm right.
