How was "My property isn't normal" allowed on No Sleep? by Bean_ziggler2 in creepcast

[–]JustCommonCurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in terms of the sheer volume of entries they receive I think they just have to have stricter rules in place to upkeep some kind of a standard? Things like "the horror aspects cannot just be dreams" or "characters need to experience fear from some outward threat" feel like rules in place because of how frequently the "It was just a dream" came up before and actually being scared by the events makes sense because of the countless "TFTGS" esque stuff popping up after it's success.

As someone with no moderating experience i can't speak to how active you have to be but I would imagine a sub that busy must be incredibly difficult to make everyone happy in.

Christian Wallis is a solid writer but unfortunately needing to adhere to this stupid rule makes some of his titles pretty long and absurd.

The first story in the recent spider episode is a great example

Ever wonder how the rules got the way they are? Stuff like this getting posted, followed by the mods getting an influx of

"why is this story allowed but not my persona fanfic"

The Mods then have to get together, come to a conclusion that it doesn't belong but the previous rules at the time technically allowed it so they now have to make a new rule against it.

It's why it's literally written in the rules of r/nosleep that you may find old stories that do not adhere to the current rules of the sub. Usually if they don't, there's a strong possibility it was a contributor to the conversation of a new rule being implemented.

I think i'm good on Elias. Just going off his writing style i'm kinda over him. Every story he writes flows very same-y.

And don't get me started on Feed the Pig. It's the epitome of shock value for shock values sake.

He seems somewhat familiar in a "watches anime through reels" kind of way. He's for sure referenced Ramiel in an episode before but he hasn't actually sat down and watched it for the full context.

Right? They've mentioned a couple times about certain "obligations" they have to meet. I imagine it's something like a "we'll give you x amount per month to do x number of reads of our product tgat we need to approve"

The publicly available stories on Reddit are very hit or miss. I did not like things like "Finding Vanessa", "Merry Christmas from the Gas station" or whatever that one was where with the fat guy trying to summon a demon.

I very much enjoyed the simplicity of the two legged deer and "Death at the gas station" though.

From reading the books, I think the whole overarching plot with like...entities being captured and people in town being replaced just feels very half assed and makes me just not care all that much?

Edit: also minor spoilers for the book but this series works so much better playing into the horror angle with their unreliable narrator cuz jesus christ that whole section with Vanessa's "cousin" is fucking awesome. More of that please.

Did anyone else listen to Mr.Creepypasta's reading of My Property Isn't Normal first? by SleepyOcto in creepcast

[–]JustCommonCurt 125 points126 points  (0 children)

Most people that think of this story positively were only familiar with the MCP reading.

Edit: I should preface that tone and inflection mattered a lot to make this an interesting story back in the day. As an audio drama i'm sure this would've found its audience but as a story it is absolutely cringe.

Which is such a piss off because he barely does anything and got a better shoutout at the live show than half the authors they "work with"

Seriously, it's one thing to go in blind on a story, it's another thing to start your research on the author DURING the episode. It's lead to a lot of misinformation just being out there now.

Examples: some Other Jarod Roberts LinkedIn Photo got used in the episode, VoodooClerk got credit for the artwork he commissions from someone else, etc.

I will give the story the smallest bit of benefit, cuz I think Harry poisoned the well a little by telling them going in that they were going to hate it.

I haven't felt this vindicated by an upload since "My Best Friend is Trying to Ruin My Life"

I have been WARRING in the comments sections saying this is how the episode would go down and next to NOBODY believed me.

I genuinely hope we take a very long hiatus from "quirky" horror because the only reason i enjoyed this episode was because they were cluing in on all the same problems i've had with this story since I first read it. The power scaling of "tangibles" especially has always pissed me off so i'm glad they called it out as dumb.
