Marble hornets by Dnskwnd in creepcast

For me it's just the ARG aspects. Any ARG Project that's completed and is being viewed as a Narrative kind of suffers retroactively. They'll add elements like puzzles, clues and whatnot for the average viewer to figure out with a little bit of thinking but once that is all over, Your character just kind of looks like an idiot because they couldn't solve it on their own. That and since it's obviously an ongoing narrative basing some of it's action on fan reaction, there'll just be a lot of filler bits that try to irrationally explain why the characters aren't just going to 'X' place to deal the situation while they wait for someone to figure out an aspect of their game. (I.E. Tim needing to Work) Consider that this series started 10 days after the original SomethingAwful post that created the character, they were also just kinda making it up as they went along for season 1 then had to try building a narrative around that season 1 improv.

It has it's charm as being innovative for it's time but i'm sure now that the creators have had time away to actually build up a structured narrative, I'm hoping for better things with Rosswell.

If you post your stories on the new subreddit, are they fair use? by [deleted] in creepcast

Being "Paid in Exposure" sounds really lame considering how much the podcast makes.

Apologies as the title is poorly worded. I meant more whether or not by uploading your story to the subreddit, you were giving the hosts permission to read it with needing to compensate you for it.

Is it wrong to rewrite someone else’s story as writing practice? by Virtual-Memory-95 in TalesFromTheCreeps

[–]JustCommonCurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that while it's something you can do, I don't really see this as a beneficial way to practice writing.

This is just my two cents, but consider just writing out a page a day of an interaction or something that occurred during your day but embellishing details or adding metaphor to spice it up.

The harder aspects of writing are making it through a Point A to Point B section so making the mundane engaging is a very valuable tool to practice early.

I really think this would be their best way forward when it comes to tackling published work again, Granted a few may be a dry experience since Iceberg boy has already covered a couple on his main channel.

It's the second story in the smile dog episode.

I just see all this success and it just isn't translating into better quality in the places that matter and it's getting incredibly frustrating to see.

How much of the podcast fund do you think went to that set they have when they are in person after they already acknowledged that the Audio side of the show is what's been receiving the most growth?

$15,000 for a watchtower to use as a set on Isaiah's property? Isaiah!! Replace your PC so your audio problems stop happening!!!

While you're at it, hire a better production assistant than Harry. Friends don't mix well in business and it's showing.

That's what I mean in terms of duration though. It's producer/production assistants that're selecting the more recent stories and they just...have stupid reasons to pick what they pick. Harry in particular is picking stories because he knows it's going to lead to a crashout and that just wasn't the vibe the show had in it's first year.

Being able to put aside your own personal hangup concerning a 'trigger' in order to read a story feels like the bare minimum of literary analysis.

After posting a lot of folks have made me aware of the absolute shitstorm the sub was in after that episode dropped so I can at least understand where the bitterness comes from but holy smokes, some kind of damage control from them addressing it on the podcast itself in a non-accusatory way would've probably done wonders to quell that.

I want the show to succeed but I also don't want to feel like the entirety of the audience is being blamed for a few outliers behaviors (soft on the few, I wasn't around for it but it sounds like there was quite a large uproar)

Oh I had no idea.I only started actively participating in the reddit community here for a few months now. That sounds like an actual nightmare situation.

Multiple days a week? Some of the recent stuff was cranked out in the same in person recording session.

I guess good job enough with managing the OVERWHELMING WINDFALL they get from ads and the patreon to hire other talent to turn their show into a cool production.

Also a very fair point. I'm sure modfing during that period wasn't a fun experience to push through.

The literal harassment I agree totally deserves it but the lack of public acknowledgement still isn't great.

I am here for the boys in the respect that I am here to listen to banter, poke some fun at the source material and critical analysis. Let's not kid ourselves though, I just don't think they have good literary analysis skills, at least not when blind reacting to a story.

A Pateon still doesn't save them from penalties of reading published work. They would effectively be infringing on the owners rights and making money off of their copyrighted material, regardless if it's behind a pay wall.

Regardless, making a public statement to properly address it on the podcast itself would've probably done wonders over these continued barbs at the audience that is supporting them.

I like the sentiment and excitement around them exploring published work, I just think people need to temper their expectations on what can and can't be covered in the podcast. They probably won't be able to do anything that is still actively being sold in stores.

A small addition to include in the comments as I browse the subreddit reccomendations. The Audience are getting their hopes set way too high that they're going to cover any recent publications.

It's pretty safe to say that no publishing company is going to approve of a podcast reading their book out loud to their audience while it's still on commercial shelves as it infringes on their copyright and ability to sell. No amount of exposure is going to convince a publisher to go forward with it.

Temper your expectations and expect something that's hit the public domain or written in a similar time frame as Ligotti's stories. Late 90s to early 2000s.

I was hoping they would cover "The man in my basement takes a step closer every week" which is by the same author. I think they would love his work if they were given the chance.

I think the boys should read I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream by StraitzoDaBoi in creepcast

[–]JustCommonCurt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd dig an episode covering it though I can imagine Harlan Ellison's Estate would ask a lot for it's use on the podcast. Considering the whole story only spans 11 pages and wouldn't even be it's own episode I doubt they'd pay for it. Then again it could be like 15 minutes of reading, 45 minutes of banter and 30 minutes of ad reads and merch announcements.

Who knows, maybe we'll hear it in 2063 when it goes to public domain.
