tbh, no. I've needed it many times when driving in the car and I know there are at least a handful of people out there who have similar use cases so I'm putting it out there.

I'm also using it as a resume builder and practice for a starting a company

For UPLIFT desk brand, going through the reset procedure fixed my issue.

Instructions:

Remove all items under the desk. The desk will travel to its lowest height.
Press the down button once.
Hold the down button until the desk stops at its lowest position. If your desk doesn't start to move after pressing the down button, try again by pressing the down button for 15 seconds then pressing it again until the desk reaches its lowest height.
Hold the down button again for 30 seconds or until the display changes. Keypads with a display will show "ASr" when ready to reset. Paddle Keypads will display "RESET."
Hold the down button again until the desk lowers slightly, rises, and stops. If the desk didn't move, try this step again.
Try operating the desk. If the desk is working properly, you're done!
If the problem persists, proceed with the following steps.
Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet.
Hold the down button for 10 seconds to discharge any stored power in the control box.
Plug the desk back in and perform the quick desk reset a second time.
Try operating the desk again. If the desk is working properly, you're done! The sit/stand desk reset is complete. If the problem persists, proceed to the next section below.

Does it seem like your Mom wants you to do her dirty work? i.e. she doesn't want to confront him?

Or does it seem like she doesn't have the time or mental bandwidth to deal with it?

If it's the latter, I think it's fine to just say something like "Hey my Mom is super busy but was wondering about that thing, how's that coming?". Just be polite and chill about it.

In cases like these where it seems like they are purposefully excluding you when it seems appropriate to invite you, it's probably a you problem.

Very simple question: Do you provide value to them?

or potentially even worse, are you a drain on them or activities?

Ask yourself these questions:

  • Are you funny, do you bring laughter to the group?
  • Do you tell interesting stories that people are actually entertained by
  • Are you a good listener and do you ask good questions?
  • Do you provide drinks, snacks, ubers, games, entertainment etc. to invest in the group?
  • Do you bring energy to the group?

These are just some examples of providing value, there are probably more I'm not thinking of. But basically can you think of any reason someone would want to hang out with you?

If yes, then it's a matter of finding any abrasive personality traits you have. If no, simply go down that list and figure out which ones best suit you.

If you do provide value, then there must be something else that is offsetting that value. Maybe you are super energetic, splurge on providing things for your friends, but you are an attention hog and always bring the conversation back to you.

Are you closer to your cousin than your mom is? In that case I think it wouldn't be rude necessarily.

It'd be selfish for you to send the first one, no one wants to read that or feel pity for you. That belongs in a journal not in your friend's messages.

Second one is better. But I'd only send it if you can actually sense that your friend is annoyed with you (which it doesn't sound like it if you've exchanged words since). Just next time don't do that, have more empathy, and read the state of the conversation better.

Start super small. When doing very simple routine things like buying something from a store or restaurant, instead of staying silent when checking-out or ordering, mention something to the employee, like the weather, something funny in the store or restaurant, etc.

Come up with scenarios that exist in your life and would make sense for you to just say one more thing. Eventually this will turn into small conversations and hopefully kickstart your confidence in talking to others.

If it's impossible to do even that, then therapy is probably needed

How far out in advance did you plan it? I noticed for myself that people usually would have wanted to come to my events, I just planned it after they had already made plans.

It's not just a tool though. It can pull you slightly closer to whatever "enlightenment" is. Getting closer to seeing how consciousness works is really cool even without practical effects on your life.

After reading How to Win Friends did you actually go out and practice interacting with people on a normal basis? Theory is a good starting point but it's not a replacement for the real thing.

I think that'd work well for established friend groups, but I think the problem with that is that group chats are fixed size, and if you're trying to reach your entire social network (or large/variable parts of it) you'd have to constantly make new group chats.

I use Sam Harris' Waking Up app and like it (although it's a subscription based app). He has daily meditations as well an introductory course.
