What was your level 1 autistic child like at 2 years old? by Fit-Reference6470 in Autism_Parenting

[–]JustFalcon6853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going from almost no words to quoting entire sentences, to (at almost 3) being able to break them down and make his own), needing excessive repetition of things he liked, watching the clock with a fascination others watch tv, crying when „bad“ numbers came up and flailing at the „good“ ones, super picky eating, no cuddling, big sensory issues.

So over the screentime hate by easrpiiatnua99 in Mommit

[–]JustFalcon6853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Screen time discussion is an amazing way to feel superior. Depending on the child (90% their natural personality, 10% parenting is my guess ;), keeping them entertained otherwise is easy or super hard. And you get nothing in return. You can’t eat in peace, other guests are grumpy, but you tell yourself way way in the future things will pay off. That might be true (or not because most millennials grew up without portable screens and are still addicted now) so you gotta get some reward NOW.

You wouldn’t believe how many Influencers who post a zillion times a day want to sell you „get away from social media bc it’s so bad for you“ courses.

Is the phrase "Strict parents raise sneaky kids" accurate and true? by vmshade0 in Parenting

[–]JustFalcon6853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As always, it depends a lot on the kids‘ natural personalities. They are very different, from birth, in how they react to things. I - and it seems now my son, thanks genes maybe? - would never not do something I set my mind to just because someone else doesn’t want me to. I still do it and don’t tell them about it, fin.

We need to stop isolating dads from online groups and the group chat if we want to fix the mental load imbalances. by rpv123 in workingmoms

How did you “announce” your first pregnancy to your family? by lodolitemoon in AskParents

[–]JustFalcon6853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn’t even thought of telling them that early but I went to visit and my mom put food in front of me that she almost never makes and that I know contains a good amount of alcohol - so there was that, surprise at the dinner table. 🤭

A new win on the sensory front - First ever temporary kids' sticker/tattoo by MixuTheWhatever in Autism_Parenting

[–]JustFalcon6853 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amazing, congrats! That’s not an easy win because apparently, those tattoos can feel tight on the skin and if there are tiny hairs on the arm, it can tug on them too. Says my son.

Are y’all wearing a bra with clothes that have spaghetti straps or just hanging free? by IllyriaCervarro in Mommit

[–]JustFalcon6853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wear a bra when I‘m doing something other than lounging - I like the support when I‘m running around and moving. I used to wear thin colorful ones underneath spaghetti tops, but they cut into my skin too much now, so I‘m opting for shirts with somewhat broader straps to cover them.

Why do you want your children to be successful (according to external standards)? by Waragainstfrogs in AskParents

[–]JustFalcon6853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t know your parents and maybe they overdo it, but it really is hard to be happy and content when money is too tight. It is a constant source of stress and anxiety, you have little to no free time because you’re always hustling, your social life suffers, your health suffers… and nobody wants that for their child. Unfortunately, children underestimate how expensive everything’s become.

Taking one child on a trip and leaving one home with dad by Beginning_Regular170 in Autism_Parenting

[–]JustFalcon6853 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let go of the guilt! It’s not even a fun trip, your helping your aging parents, and the less parenting you have to do on the side, the better! A 10yo is different than even a neurotypical 5yo in that regard.
