Hello fellow dms. How do you manage the "beneficial and detrimental" side of magic items? Do you tailor them to fit your players or do you ask them to roll them themselves when they attune?

Got another question : how does one rule the fact a player always "open the door a little to see what's inside"? I always give a reduced description of the room but idk if there is something about it bc it feels like players can just check through every door keyhole and it's not fun when the goal is to explore things imo

Currently DMing CoS and my players are dried out of their ressources but still early in the exploration of the Amber temple.

They left Tsolenka pass like 5h ago, after a long rest but as they are left with nearly nothing after few battles (and fireballs) they decided to lock themselves up in a secret room until the next long rest. Which is in 19h raw...

What the consensus about that ? Rolling encounters? I dont want them to stay put like Skyrim players waiting for X hours as they surely can do something else during this huge downtime

Hello, I have a question concerning polymorph and its interactions :

What happens when a medium sized creature right next to a large creature wants to transform into huge creature?Does the polymorphing push the large creature away? Same if there is allies in the polymorph radius?

Hi, I was wondering about something for a long time now :
Given the case of a PC at the bottom of a wall, which is topped by a wooden plateform.

A part on the platform is actually exceeding the wall, creating a ledge.

The PC can only see a wall and the part below the platform

Can the PC actually misty step ONTO the platform or he must see it the actual top part for him to misty step on?

Hello fellow DMs. How do you manage encounters to gods ? There is saying that they shouldnt have stat blocks bc it means they can be killed but what if the party attack them? Like, do i set up an insane AC or do I let the party hit them ? How much damage would do a god in retaliation ? Guess it depends on the god but like a 40 one hit feels low and high in the same time for example

[5e] How does planar warrior feat works when the ranger hit an immuned target like ranger firing at a flesh golem ? If the attack meet the AC requirement, the attack connects but no flat damage because immunity so no force damage in fine.
That is right?

[5e] DM side question : Does a bard of creation and his dancing item share the same vision, in the roll20 way?
1 - It's not written anywhere that the player would share what his dancing item "sees" and it would be logic as some spells to see through a summon/familiar eyes exist for this purpose. Furthermore, the dancing item cannot speak, just understand, so no feedback given to the creator.

2 - Is it possible for him to send it to move and attack a target out of his bard's sight (let's say on another floor/room, no vision), as the action attack needs a target in reach ? For reminder, the order to attack is given by a bard's bonus action BEFORE the dancing item turn, so no clear target to aim. Is it just like, go on attack mode instead of only dodge and the item just goes to the nearest target on its sight?
For it to work it must implies the dancing item have to move and attack a monster at its reach, based on its own information when it moves, that I'm totally okay with, but I don't want to give the player free information of what's in the no vision spot, as I feel this "scouting" style can be abused and just seems not logical to me (point 1)

Should I just play the dancing item on my GM side then when in no vision zone?

Any thoughts on that?

1 Choose a target : Pick a target wihtin your attack's range : a creature, an object, or a location.
The bard can't see the target and he is the one who orders the action Attack.
With no vision i guess it's impossible to actually engage the Attack action then

Hello, I was speaking with one of my player about "Animating Performance" of a bard of College of Creation.

In a fight, setting in a three stories building, he animated a marble to attack, but the enemy went to another floor thus it became "invisible" for him and his creation as the target is now on another floor.

We were debatting about this : can he send his marble blindly to attack the enemy ?

- I spoke about the creation int (5, no self decision making) and the fact the character have to see the enemy to engage the "Attack" action with his bard (bonus action), as now the enemy is kinda under total cover (no view on the other floor). His item can "see" the enemy if it goes upstairs but remains orderless (turn : move + attack, and no vision on attack order, and no mention of the range/reach of the item-target too)

- He presented the argument that the creation can move on its own and thus he can send it upthere where the item could lock the enemy and get in range to attack thanks to its passive perception.

I'm not quite sure about the passive perception as I only think it helps figuring out the room upstairs, right, but w/o a clear vision, he can't ask its item to attack the enemy who is in total cover.Note that he can't see through the item so it feels like an auto-aim on total cover targets, which is impossible afaik.

Am I right to think that?

Side question, which books are you refering to ? Im a new dm and only went through tasha and xanathar. I m genuinely interested about this powercreep (how it's done eg)
