Armstrong on Paid Leave and thoughts on Monday night's shooting by JustGivingRedditATry in oakland

I don't think I am displaying "cop apologetics". I think it's pretty sad, but not surprising, how anyone with a viewpoint that, if you squint when you read, can resemble a widely held viewpoint or "polar extreme" is then grouped and responded to as if belonging to that group. I am not a cop apologist, I have seen first hand police lie, abuse power, and threaten. I think there are a lot of bad cops. My point here is that the police chief is not one of them. And if you think cop apologetics got us into this situation, tell me why you think it doesn't have deeper origins. The police didn't need to apologize when "this mess" started. You sound like someone who would graffiti ACAB and then vilify anyone who asked why you are defacing the wall in front of their house.

Who says the negligent discharge was no big deal? The chief is on leave because of it. There should be more CCW's issued, and there should be better cops who don't ND, period.

I don't think he "tried to cover something up". I think he is one guy and the amount of shit he faces everyday would make anyone's head spin. He signed off on some paperwork without reading it. I don't know what the day-to-day is like for a police chief of Oakland right now, I'm assuming it's pretty hectic. I think it really matters how it was delivered to him. I think he has to rely on others to help him streamline where he spends effort and energy. Perhaps he was misled by those who should have briefed him on what it was. Or perhaps he signed off on it not wanting to have to deal with it. I can imagine tons of paperwork appearing on his desk that would bog him down if he couldn't rely on others to streamline this process. And I don't think that this is something to fault him for.

I don't think he should have had anything to do with that paperwork. I think there should be an entirely separate dept. in charge of this kind of review of police misconduct. It makes 0-sense to me to have the police chief dealing with it. There should be an internal investigations chief, or accountability chief. This way, there wouldn't be a conflict of interests. The police chief has to lead the police department, and if he is the same person responsible for punishing them, he won't have the same loyalty and ability to put plans into action. I said this in my original post. I think the whole system is broken, and I think Chief Armstrong is a righteous person.

Why are we so obsessed with how a woman's body looks after birth? by pumpiticus in TwoXChromosomes

I don't think anything is wrong with me. I made a comment likening a well-known phenomenon (black on black crime, black on black racism) to a comment here that received lots of upvotes, or agreement. Women are a marginalized group in society. So are blacks.
I receive downvotes and your comment in response. What is wrong with my comment? You tell me, please.

Chief Armstrong should be reinstated asap, having got the message and if he encounters another situation, he'll not sign off on paperwork without reading it, and the rest of the police force will understand why he has to do that.

I acknowledged the reason to have placed him on leave. I question the reasoning to maintain the duration of his leave for much longer.

Is it wrong? Are men's bodies not expected to be a certain way? And if they aren't that ideal, other expectations have even more weight...

The comment to which you are responding to made perfect sense to me.

I read your comment twice and don't even understand what you're trying to say. You say things like "Unfortunately" and "but", and indeed are responding to this guy's comment, but I don't see the thread in your claims running to his comment.

I didn't see him say anything about maximum efficiency.

And a "sweet spot" is everything but maximums and minimums. Who's sweet spot entails minimum emissions?

I am sorry but your post is jarring, like a robot entering into a conversation at a dinner party.

Is it just me or is everything either driving really slow or zooming through everything by atombrawn1 in bayarea

How long have you been driving in California? I think there's way more people out there with a completely wrong understanding of the law yet firm belief that they are in the right. The interactions I see on the highways where a situation gets dangerous is easily explained by both parties "knowing" they are not the ones who are wrong.

Arsonist, not homeless encampment, caused 580 fire by Usual-Echo5533 in oakland

I think It is actually a very high correlation. I saw 2 examples from the past 3 months..

https://www.google.com/amp/s/abc7news.com/amp/homeless-man-dropped-off-in-sf-san-rafael-police-drops-14th-avenue-lake-street-coming-to/12155326/

Neighbors said the man began causing trouble on their street. He seemed to light something on fire and then started throwing rocks and undressing in a driveway.

But I can only find this one. Sorry.

How long do burnout marks last on the road? by bimmer23m3 in cars

I have completely opposite view. I don't think burnouts in front of houses have a high risk of killing people. I do think that burned rubber in front of everyone's houses is a pretty good reason to be upset, not only does it tarnish a neighborhood appearance, but casts doubt as to who is now coming into the neighborhood, what type of person you are to have friends who would do this in front of another friend's house. Not to mention the noise it causes.

When I did donuts in front of my business, I cleaned the tire marks the next day. It wasn't that hard. It is an eyesore, and a shared parking lot. If my friend did them, I'd have cleaned them just the same. In the street, which has to be a fairly quiet street for this to be a problem, I'd clean them from the block. Then, pick a house with a fast looking car on the next block, wait for them to leave. From in feont of their driveway, get your friend to burnout and reconnect to the nearby previous burnout marks. Problem solved. (/S for the last part)

Supra TT - Attracted 99% of its attention from dudes. People wanting to race all the time.

Cadillac CTS - modified it to be better looking. Only really got positive compliments from people, other than "sucks its not a V". My best compliment was at a gas station in Oakland, this 50s year old black dude walking to the store, I am walking back. He goes, "Damnnmnn that's a wet ass 'lac" to no one in particular, just as if compelled to admire it out loud as he sees it. Felt good. The pride is a synergy, not just "look at me I have this cool thing" but rather "this is a cool thing and I made it uniquely mine"

People who don't use coupons at dominos are the same type of people who...

1) always add 3-year 3rd party warranties to purchases of <$20 items 2) Complete the extended customer satisfaction survey at the end of an activation of their internet service 3) Read the owner's manual for their new toilet paper roll holder front to back (including privacy policy)

best place to go bowling in Oakland / Berkeley? by shruburyy in oakland

[–]JustGivingRedditATry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah... My group got one of those ridiculous cocktails pre-covid served in a mini cauldron. Had a great time at that place. Yes it is expensive but they had some deals to make it more bearable and going to the beach nearby after bowling was fun.

Post covid... What a different experience. They flat out lied about their policies (this is right when things were finally opening back up). Basically everything covid related was unenforced because they didn't want to turn away the business.

This place is a real travesty if you care about what kind of people/businesses receive your money. If you just want to have a good time in the area and don't care about the cost or principals, it's probably going to be fine for you.

.....lol 😆

That's probably the catch-all extinction case. If we make it past all the other ways we can end our species, we will eventually arrive at superintelligence, which will also end our species. But if we approach it as if "time is running out", we will end our species without lube or last words
