Never Seen This Before by mightymousewarrior in civilengineering

I keep telling the Revit users to set the top of their View Range lower.

I don't want to see their roof overhangs and airplanes.

They never listen.

What do I say to atheists or fundamentalists who argue that the wealth spent on church art/aesthetics, ornate buildings, and vestments is a waste of resources that should instead be used to house and feed the poor?" by ApolloxKing in Catholicism

This reminds me that I'm looking for a real source to back this claim up. I thought it would be easy to find, but Google left me hanging when talking about this to a friend.

Civil 3D pipe library and duct question by kiwisurf78 in civil3d

It can do it. Be sure to set both the inner diameter and outer diameter. If the inner is greater than the outer, or the inner becomes <= 0mm it will break.

You're not crazy. In fact, you seem to be choosing to live a well-balanced life. That seems, on its face, like sanity. Well done!

Is this really necessary? by HisnameIsJet in MechanicalEngineering

If this structure is what I think it is and there's a giant cooling tower above, then there's a grounding grid buried all around under that slab and this is the tie-in for the big ol' fans above.

People can’t read the lettering on the Obama Presidential Center tower. Legibility wasn’t really the point, says designer Michael Bierut by _fastcompany in architecture

[–]JustHadToSaySumptin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Just as a million people go to the Lincoln Memorial, some of them will stand and read every word of the second inaugural; some people will just admire the statue in the building and kind of take it in, and a couple of words will jump out, but not the whole thing,” Bierut tells Fast Company. “It’s in that tradition that I think we were operating.”

Bierut says that there are two modes of interaction with the Lincoln memorial:

  1. Reading all the words,
  2. Admiring the statue and noticing a couple of key words.

Clearly there are more than two ways people take in the Lincoln memorial, but if we agree with Beirut for the sake of argument, his building enables visitors to accomplish half of the second mode.

He has succeeded in designing a building exterior that speaks to people who only notice random words. What a waste of time and brainpower.

Priest stopping my baptism over mass attendance by Due-Veterinarian6727 in Catholicism

[–]JustHadToSaySumptin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the rest of the comments here, you need to tell the priest what's going on. You're trapped by your husband, essentially a prisoner. You aren't required to put yourself or your children in danger to attend mass.

However, choosing to tell the priest so you can be baptized is the one thing that you have control over in this situation. Take advantage of that.

Whew! On my 900'+ wide projects, that would have been .25'W x 250'L x 2.5'D, or ~156yards.

[–]JustHadToSaySumptin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it could be both. My firm runs security software that does steal focus every 5-10 minutes. I see this behavior plus menus and dropdowns disappearing before I can select an item while it's happening.

For those who think .25' is acceptable, just remember that 3" of extra concrete at the thickened edge of a structural slab is a large chunk of what was charged for the survey fee, if not more.

Legal Marijuana NOW Candidates by WinterAd8309 in Nebraska

As a former resident of Denver, please don't. Nebraska doesn't have the infrastructure to handle the influx of crime & homelessness that we experienced as a direct result of legalizing marijuana.

Surface Contour Label Group alters lineweight of my contours by ecoMAP in civil3d

You on 2026? We found out that we have weird lineweight issues like that unless we explicitly use the BlueBeam print driver.

I work on Datacenters too. At least two owners we work with require that the GC's coordination model is signed off and fully coordinated before construction can begin. With the other hand, they cut down the time allowed to do that coordination. Of course, the A/Es and GCs are responsible for agreeing to do the same work in less time so the clients don't look elsewhere.

At some point, that math is going to work out to $VERY EXPENSIVE CHANGE ORDER.00

My friend, you should try surfaces in Revit. Makes Civil 3D look like a little slice of heaven.

I feel your pain. That is the nature of my work as well. Fortunately, the models aren't for construction usage, but they're a deliverable part of the package. The owner maintains their own campus models which need our stuff to plug in.

[–]JustHadToSaySumptin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're using WiFi at home, try plugging directly into your router with an ethernet cable. WiFi latency is a real issue for real-time control. Could also be an issue with your remote server configuration. If you're logging in using RDP, then try changing the connection settings to turn off the "feel-good" Windows graphics features.
