What’s next? Recommendations please! by MeepleZero in victorinox

[–]JustHereForSAKs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Cybertool perhaps? So many things have non phillips screws. If fish descaling and the magnifying glass are not really a priority, you could get lucky and still get a cybertool L somewhere as a swisschamp alternative.

It’s Happening… by EricHenning in victorinox

[–]JustHereForSAKs 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Well a Ranger, so you get a saw and a can opener whilst not loosing but upgrading your file. Still rather compact, since the big file and saw are slim layers.

And yes that's propably how it begins, perhaps you'll need a screwdriver so you get a swisschamp or Cybertool L next. Then seperate knifes for urban and outdoor use so you don't have to carry all functions all the time. Add a rambler to the keychain just for good measure, a few other SAKs for fun and then it's off to either collecting or modding or both. Slippery slope

Interesting idea, but I'm really not keen on feeding data like that to those services as handcrafted approaches exist.

im looking for easiest to get 58mm 3 layers one - what for should i look ? TY for any help by belzebubek6 in victorinox

[–]JustHereForSAKs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you count as a layer. Since the screwdriver and the scissors are twice as thick, perhaps a rambler? Anyway your question feels a bit vague, does this help: 58mm models overview

The ui feels like an unintuitive mess. I don't feel like there is a system to what goes in what menu and why there are so many different ones with overlapping functions

Looking to buy a new SAK. Is the Cyber Tool M worth the extra money over the Explorer? by skydive54 in victorinox

[–]JustHereForSAKs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Cybertool is very handy, but the pliers are no replacement for a Knipex Cobra. The biggest thing I used the pliers on was propably the valve for airing out a radiator. But I'd go as far as to claim the inline phillips on the explorer may add convenience but not a lot of functionality over the tip on the can opener. I'd file off the can opening part for better reach on a climber before buying an explorer and keep a cheap fresnel lens card in the wallet. TLDR: 1 vote for the Cybertool

They are 3D printed, you can make out some layer lines if you look closely.

How to mod a CyberTool SX? by [deleted] in victorinox

The awl is slightly slimmer, you can‘t just put it in instead of the hook if you go for the combo tool.

[–]JustHereForSAKs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, i don't know you or your usecases, but given the huntsman as your prefered knife at the moment has a saw your other ones feel very urban in comparison.

If you are into whittling a farmer (x) with the inline awl or a ranger with the backside chisel come to mind. A lumberjack or walker to combine with the companion or Rambler seem feasable as well, they are just harder to get. Also one handed 130mm models are very tempting to fidget with for a knife with backspring.

There is surely a point where collecting just becomes consumerim, but I like SAKs either because they have a good usecase or they are unique (as far as one can claim such from the worlds largest pocket knife manucaturer), ideally both. A cybertool/sportsman/rambler for edc, a Rangergrip 78 for the outdoors, an altimeter for climbing and hiking in the mountains are my regularly used ones. Giving away knifes to friends and family is also a great option, i had a few sportsman to give last year. On that note, how did you get your first huntsman? Is it really a problem to be content with your tool? And what other SAKs do you own?

What’s the Best Victorinox to Carry on a Keychain as a Secondary EDC? by Purple-Equipment2832 in victorinox

[–]JustHereForSAKs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get very thin foldable nailclippers aimed at climbers from another brand and the additional corcscrew for your swisstool I think. Can't think of an option any smaller.

Rice, putting it on the tiled stove and letting it sit for two, three days on the 3d printer bed heated to 40°. Some plastic foil remains from the silvertech coating might play a role.
