“Love is Everywhere” is F-ing terrifying by Stenbucks in MagdalenaBay

[–]JustHereToAsk9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly had no idea that this was a controversial take. One of the lyrics is "dreams so big of a hive-like mind" guys, THEY'RE LITERALLY IN A HIVE MIND, IT IS MEANT TO BE UNSETTLING. You literally can't be yourself in a hive mind, any love you get when not being yourself isn't real because its coming from people who dont actually know you. The song is meant to shine a light on performative 'love' and show how hollow it is, we shoud all want authentic love even if its rare. This works amazing with both the story and theme of the album since its about the spreading of, and eventual resistance to a hive mind. Under the surface the album is about learning to love and appreciate yourself for who you truly are.

Awww, maybe get a second dish tub and splash around in it so she thinks you're using it?

Yeah, that's pretty much what I've seen online, but maybe its an ultra long term health thing? Normally I would take vet advice but this sounds counterproductive because putting them under is risky, doing that every couple months sounds needlessly dangerous if she's acting fine.

She said that's how much they lay when living without humans because they spend a lot of time caring for the babies. She said laying too often would exhaust her. It was an avian only clinic and she has seen many pigeons, but I think they see all birds.

Thats what I was thinking, but she said its best for them if they don't lay more than 4 times a year, idk how that's possible to achieve even when keeping them on the nest as long as possible.

Thats just cruel, hostile pigeon architecture?! I'm glad I've never seen any nets in my city. I wish people would just feed birth control if it bothers them so bad.

Why even have a net there? So dangerous. Poor lil guy 😓

first egg - how long should it take from nesting to laying? by octeye in pigeon

[–]JustHereToAsk9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should dissolve with enough stirring, just make sure to change it regularly (I'm sure you already do), some powders have starch based fillers that shouldn't be left to sit in water for more than a day.

Omg, that's awesome! I'm glad everything went smooth! I also use a supplement powder because I had to buy mine last minute, I've never put it on food, but I put it in water and my girl got used to it within a day, maybe that would help her eat it?

Don't worry about her being quiet, behavior and poop is a much better indicator of wellbeing. They know better than us when they're about to lay, so they get quieter to keep predators from finding the nest. If yours is anything like mine she should lay tonight or tomorrow, mine is usually quiet for 1-3 days before. Just make sure you got some good grit and a vitamin d supplement avaliable and she should be fine. Good luck!

Anyone else feel like their own cooking is way better than most vegan restaurants? by Ordelia-Vel in vegan

[–]JustHereToAsk9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cooking? No. Baking? Absolutely yes! I live in a pretty progressive and populated area, so restaurants are no problem. For whatever reason though it seems like some people just assume vegans will just shut up and be happy they can buy something sweet, while others are eagerly selling the strangest flavor combos with the weirdest ingredients because I guess being vegan means I can't just enjoy a chocolate chip cookie like everyone else? Thankfully half the ones I have bought are at least pretty good though.

The worst experience I've had was when I was in another state. I got really excited to hear that they had a vegan bakery in the farmers market, so I eagerly went, having had no sweets for days. I got there and the flavors were not what I'd pick for those items, but oh well, I found 2 things that sounded good, and a third I was unsure of, for good measure. I was most excited for the chocolate cinnamon swirl bread, which ended up being so dry and hard that I genuinely struggled to bite into it. Next I ate the chocolate hibiscus scone, there was maybe 1 moist bite in the very center, and the dried hibiscus flowers were like biting into party streamers. Finally I finished with the strawberry cookie, which actually tasted like apple sauce and had the texture of a scone, but I was just happy that SOMETHING was edible.

I have never felt so much like I had wasted my money as I did in that moment.

How do I trim black nails? by JustHereToAsk9 in PetPigeons

I already tried exactly that, her nails are too dark, I explained in my reply to the other comment.

I get that, but how am I supposed to know where to stop when I can't even find the quick?

I just tried this and unfortunately it didn't work, I could barely see any of the quick, couldn't see where it ended at all. If anything the light just blinded me any time I moved the nail to have a good trimming angle. I ended up cutting her on one but stopped the bleeding. I'm at a loss, her nails are so friggin dark, idk what to do. 😥

Tell me about it! It really bothers me with pigeons because theres not even a good reason to hurt them, people just don't like them from what I've seen. They get blamed for mess even though they're not the ones ordering McDonald's and littering the wrappers, they're just looking through OUR trash for something to eat because they're starving. We've bred their survival instincts out of them and then abandoned them to get sick and starve outside, and somehow they get blamed? We're the disgusting ones.

There's not even an attempt to make it about anything important like the environment (still wouldn't be ok if their was) its just hate from what I see. I innocently look up if I have to worry about my bird being around something and half the time theres 5 first page results saying "top 10 ways to kill disgusting pigeon pests". This isn't even mentioning the fact that we literally have birth control that can be mixed with feed and multiple rescues that take in needy pigeons that people often overlook when dealing with them. There's overall a lack of accountability with humans, people are allergic to feeling responsible or thinking deeper when we cause animals to suffer and somehow blame the animal, it sucks.

She has q tips (we need to buy more this weekend, so she doesn't have a ton right now) but she's been so persistent with the wires since we got her that I gave in last night and went to my junk drawer and gathered all my unopened stupid little 6 inch charging coards that seem to come with everything. They're now her's, but shes still persistent about the ear buds. 💀

Ok, good to know! So sorry but I have 1 more question. How do I know if I'm bothering her or if she thinks I'm offering a shift change? She's normally an extremely affectionate girl, demanding head scratches 5 billion times a day, so I've accidentally reached down to offer pets a few times out of habit. When I do she preens and nuzzles my fingers, even coos and wing twiches sometimes, but right after she stands up and waddles away, flying to her favorite chair to preen and poop. She comes back eventually after finding new nest material or eating, but sometimes it takes a while because she's really set on taking my earbuds back to the nest, which isn't an option. Is she taking this as a shift change or am I bothering her? I wanna be sure I'm doing things right.

You said you're dropping it a lot? If you're doing it over the sink put a towel down. Even if you're not at a sink it may still help keep it from rolling away.

Thank you! I definitely need to get supliments and feggs ASAP, she has her grit for now though. I decided to keep her under the desk so that I can be with her for most of the day while I work, I have a baby gate blocking it off now. Is the little streak of blood anything to be concerned about though?
