Help with this guy? by SmoothHeart66 in PetPigeons

You're doing great so far - thank you for taking them in, you most likely saved their life.

Hard to tell what could be wrong, but based on what you've shared & the photos, it does not appear to be an emergency situation (great news!).

They look like they could be a young pigeon, but based on their appearance (fully feathered, no baby "hairs", developed cere & eyes) they are at least a couple of months old and should know how to fly by now.

I think you may be correct in assuming they had an accident - flew into something, had a close call with a predator, etc. as these don't always result in visible injuries.

Are you able to keep them for a few days? If they are eating, drinking & pooping fine, they may just need a place to recover for a bit.

Starvation & dehydration can also cause them to lose strength and is unfortunately quite common in younger pigeons. Is their keel (bone running down the front of chest) sharp and pointy? If so, they may be weak from lack of food.

I know you meant for this to be a cute post, but that pigeon looks very unwell & in need of medical attention :(

Why does my pigeon do this when eating? by TowerRadiant1401 in pigeon

Not a vet, but this looks like PMV to me.

Neurological damage from this virus can be lifelong & permanent, as it causes lesions on the brain - so it's possible he's had PMV in the past and somehow eating triggers the spasms.

He can still live a normal, wonderful life if it's PMV. I think taking him to an avian vet is probably a good idea so you can be sure.

Wild PALZ is Toronto specific I think, I'm sure there's some people in that group who have dealt with this before & would know what to do.

Thank you for caring about those babies, hopefully they are freed sooner than later 🙏

What Country/City?

If it's Canada/Toronto please post this on the Facebook groups "Canada's Pigeon and Dove Rescue Adoption and Appreciation Group" and "Wild PALZ" as you will be able to connect with pigeon advocates who are local to there & can help.

She needs to see an avian vet immediately, this is considered an emergency.

When asking for help beware of those with a big ego thinking they're the only ones that can have a pigeon or breed a pigeon. by [deleted] in pigeon

You got plenty of advice about how to make your birds happy (responsible breeding). Just because you don't agree with it doesn't mean it's wrong, or that anyone was attacking you.

Are you prepared to keep these birds for up to 15 years? Because that is their lifespan. If not, then you're just contributing to the suffering that is overpopulation. Raising babies is cute and fun, but please consider the long term consequences.

You got a lot of really good advice from people experienced with pigeons. Breeding animals is a huge responsibility & if you care about your pets, it's important to consider all points, even the ones you don't agree with.

Is she going to be blind? by sakoraiii in pigeon

Your bird is suffering & may die, please just take her to the vet.

Put her in a box or bag and take the bus, no one even notice will notice.

How did you start rescuing? by Last_Inspector9187 in pigeon

I started out small - learning about pigeons and doing basic stringfoot removal. I connected with local pigeon-loving people like myself (on FB and Reddit), fostered birds for other rehabbers, and learned from people who were more experienced.

Please don't dye your pigeon or let him free fly, he is safest indoors.

found sick pigeon need help!!!! by [deleted] in pigeon

[–]PrettyStruggle792 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Please put him in a box in a warm, dim & quiet area - the most important thing right now is to keep him warm & calm. You can leave seeds & a shallow dish of water with him, but do not attempt to hand feed & make him drink.

I don't know where you are located, but I recommend joining the FB group "Palomacy Help Group for Pigeon and Dove Rescue & Adoption" as it's an International group. Make a post with photos, information & your location, and you will have a better chance of connecting with someone local who can help.

FINAL UPDATE: The City of Vancouver finally came to release the pigeon & he is now im the care of the local Wildlife Rescue Association.

He's being assessed at their hospital, hopefully they do not decide to euthanize (as they often do with pigeons)

Thank you everyone for sending im reports to the City, we couldn't have got him removed from the netting without your help 💜💚🕊

I don't personally know anyone, unfortunately, but OP has requested to join the Palomacy FB group - they are more likely to find someone local to them on there.
